Comments about Nord Stage 2 SW73 Compact:

I play in an R&B/Dance band. The Stage 2 is part of a two-keyboard setup and handles ALL my needs for soloing and comping. The Motif is there for brass patches and 'workstation' uses. I wouldn't think of playing E.P., organ, piano, clav, or synth solo sounds with ANY other board out there. The Stage 2 can recreate all the classic sounds necessary in the style we play; it would shine just as well in Rock and Pop settings. The Kronos comes closer than Korg has ever come before in terms of recreating classic sounds but the Nord outshines it in all the categories listed. The synth section can now incorporate your own samples, so I may be able to leave the Motif home for some shows. The Nord seems feather light compared to the Kronos and the Motif. There are so many great things about the Stage2, I've mentioned the ones that benefit me the most. One thing that will benefit EVERY owner of the Nord Stage 2 is the awesome support and continual development that Nord and the Nord User Forum provide for the instruments. They still support and develop for the Stage Classic which has been discontinued for several years! Try to get a Korg tech/rep on the phone or even in a forum and you'll be waiting a very long time before they get back to you and there's no guarantee they'll be of any help. [@] is Nord's only equal in terms of fantastic support. The only downside I've found in the Stage2 is the awkward manner in which the patches are selected/organized. With the included Sound Manager software you can move things around to your liking easily enough, but still, to get to all those patches through only 5 buttons, you've got to get through several banks and it's very cumbersome. I must say, though, that I rarely use more than a couple of patches for each timbre, and the organ is tweaked on the fly as a real organ would, so I personally am not bothered too much by this; however, if you like to have splits/layers/patches for each song you play in your sets, you may be frustrated by the way you have to get to them. One other thing worth mentioning is not necessarily a downside, it's just something you'll need to be aware of, - in order to get the most out of the synth section, be prepared to dig into some programming/tweaking. Not that it's difficult, you'll just need/want to be able to do it. But feel confident that Nord and the very helpful/knowledgable people in the user forum will be there to help you along the way. One final comment that may be telling: the only other products that I own that I am as happy and proud to have as my Stage2 are my Apple products. Take a long look and listen to the Stage2, Nord's website, and the linked user forum before you buy your next keyboard. You may find as I did, while it's pricey, the Nord Stage 2 is worth it!
