Datacolor's Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration is a compact (1.5"/3.8 cm square), digital color balancing tool that not only allows you to correct the color temperature but also the exposure, brightness and black point of your images. The Spyder 3D is a spectrally neutral three-dimensional tool that's small enough to fit in your pocket or camera bag and gives you all the features needed to easily adjust your images in post-production. Its multi-sided construction allows special attention to highlights and shadows, and contains more features for image control than a gray card or white balance tool.
Just place the Spyder 3D in the lighting conditions under which you will be photographing. Orient the cube so that the lower black face, containing the black trap, is at the bottom front, and the two split white/gray faces are both visible. Take a photograph that includes the Cube. It makes several measurements that make it possible for you to be confident that your colors are accurate, your shadows and highlights are properly exposed, and your image is adjusted to the ideal density, regardless of the lighting conditions. These functions give you the data you need:
1 Chrome Ball - Measures catchlight to analyze specular highlights.
2 White Face(s) - Define highlights in relation to catchlight.
3 Gray Face(s) - Measures color temperature and midtone response.
4 Black Face - Defines shadows in relation to black trap.
5 Black Trap - Defines absolute black.
By using Spyder 3D Cube under the same lighting conditions as your photos, you can optimally adjust all the
photos in RAW conversion using the information the Spyder 3D shot provides. The Spyder 3D Cube is easy enough for the advanced amateur and sophisticated enough for professionals.

Comments about Datacolor Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration:
I use this whenever I can on architectural interiors. It's invaluable for color balancing mixed lighting. My only complaint is that there is no simple way to leave three of them in a scene for the full bracket, i.e.. no way to easily velcro them to a wall. Otherwise, I love it.

Comments about Datacolor Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration:
Does as designed. When used, works well. I recently took some photos of an idyllic mountain town in tough lighting conditions and forgot to use the spydercube. It made post-processing very time consuming and questioning one's self whether you got it right. When using the cube I can quickly and confidently process a photo or batch.

Comments about Datacolor Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration:
All you have to do is place it next to your subject and take a picture concentrating on the brightest top grey patch and fill as much of the picture with it and while a little out of focus take the picture. Set your white balance to this picture for your grey reference. You can also use it when shooting RAW as your grey scale reference.

Comments about Datacolor Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration:
The Spydercube has been great and so convenient. I used to carry a card around instead and would spend more time looking for it than using it.
I would recommend the Spyder Cube to assist with color calibration.

Comments about Datacolor Spyder 3D Cube for RAW Color Calibration:
If you shoot RAW and want to take the guess work out of white balance then this is the easiest way. The cube is very small & weighs nothing so it's easy to keep in a camera/gear bag. Take one shot with the cube in the scene facing the camera and later use that shot in Lightroom (or other RAW processing program) to correct color & exposure.
So far I've used it in situations with mixed/strange lighting and it works great. I like that it has a tripod mount. (comes with instructions, soft case & neck strap)

The SpyderCube works as advertised. I went to a local vendor demo of other Spyder products and after seeing them use the Cube, I had to have one. I have not been disappointed.
