Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
I am using the head on a Manfrotto 190CXPRO 3 and attached to the head is a Hog Saddle. My main goal was a stable platform for LR shooting/hunting. My rifle weighs about 17-18 lbs with everything attached, scope, silencer, PVS-22, full mag. The head locks up tight with minimal movement. and is easily adjustable. I put the torque/tension knob all the way to the max so it is not as sensitive and makes it stiffer while unlocked. I also like the fact that it can rotate horizantally while still staying locked up on the other axis and the graduated marks come in handy. Weight is acceptable and feels extremely rugged. I can leave it locked with rifle attached at any position and it will not move. Worth the money and has all the features i want without the things i don't care for.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
I can't reccommend this ball head enough. Very stong and sturdy. Locks down secure and very versitile. I primarily use this outdoors in rain and sandy conditions, and it holds up great. Strongly reccommended.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
I'm just getting back to using a ball head and I'm glad I purchased this one. I'm a Manfrotto user going way back but still wondered if this head would hold the camera, battery pack and lens steady at a sharp angle. It does. The drag adjustment is a great idea and the swivel is smooth.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
I just ordered this bullhead a few weeks ago. It's new(er) so there aren't many reviews about it out there in the wild yet. Some things that I wish I knew/were mentioned out there:
You can remove the base plate and attach your own QR system. I used the Hejnar 496RC2 Conversion Set which fits like a glove, and allowed me to attach an Arca-Swiss style QR clamp. (see pix).
As far as the functions of the ball-head, I think it's great! It does what I expected it to do. I haven't noticed any slipping when the knob is tightened, and the friction knob helps dial in the right amount of movement.
What I think are some cool key features are the portrait mode switch, the pan control, and the light weight design. It's light enough to carry on trips and the ball-head action allows for fast camera movements when I am setting up a shot.
I used to use a 410 Gearhead on my 190CXPRO3 tripod, and the setup always felt top-heavy. Now everything is in balance. It even matches the color of the tripod - if that matters to you.
I use a Canon 7D with either a 100mm 2.8 L, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 lens.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
This very user friendly device allows precise and comfortable adjustment of the position of my Nikon D200 with a 300 mm Zoom on it. It stays where I set it and is perfect sized to handle the weight of the camera and long lens without adaptive or compensatory gear attachments. It simple and elegantly does what it is told to do and feels indestructible. The machining and finish are impeccable and its operation is intuitive. It holds my equipment where I want it without effort and allows me to create images instead of engineer scaffolding. I dont have a downside to report; its construction and design overcome the gravity I am fighting.

Good ball head. Been using it a couple of weeks now and it's solid. I mounted it onto a slider, and put a quick-release plate on it (the manfrotto 357).
I use a canon 7d on it with a variety of lenses, it doesn't lose grip/slip at all. Does it's job well.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
This is one smooth bullhead to use. I would recommend getting the quick attachment but this was the only one in stock when I ended up desperately needing another bullhead. It certainly works but I'd have rather had the quick release.

Comments about Manfrotto 054 Magnesium Ball Head:
As an evidence technician I needed a product that was very versatile and I found it with this head. First, the head is very solid and has a substantial feel. All the adjustments are easy to use and I really like the 90 degree portrait guide tab. For the price it's a great addition. It is on the heavier side, but that's not really a con considering the stability it provides.
