Comments about Manfrotto MK293A3-A3RC1 3-Way Alu Kit RC1:
I wanted a tripod for just a birding scope that weighs about 3.5 lbs. It does the job. For the price, it does the job well. Is there a better tripod out there? Probably. But it'd cost me more than I want to pay. I like the quick-release, although I have to shim it with a piece of tape to get it to be perfectly shake free. Otherwise it wobbles ever so slightly. They need to add a beveled edge to the front of the quick-release mount. That would prevent it from rocking I think. But a piece of tape was just what the doctor ordered. It's pretty light. Beefier legs could be good, but then it'd be heavier. I was worried about the fact that I couldn't lock the pan (you can move the scope from left to right by just pushing it... it doesn't lock down). But it isn't a big deal. In fact, it works better that way. One less thing go be unscrewing/loosening when trying to find a bird. It does lock on the tilt (which you'd never use with a scope anyway). So it does what I want and the price was under $100.If I had a $3,000 scope I'd get something better. But my scope was $500 so this is a good match.

Comments about Manfrotto MK293A3-A3RC1 3-Way Alu Kit RC1:
It works as expected. You can not lock the pan. This had has a single-action knob for pan & tilt.
However, you can pan and tilt easily. The plate/shoe fits tight and the camera does not move at all. I have a T2i, with a Canon battery grip, flash and zoom lens. Operation is very simple and the head also allows me to shoot subjects in quick motion. I needed a reliable tripod/head combo and Manfrotto got this one right, as usual. The tripod is sturdy and well made. I also got the Oben TB40 case. It fits this combo perfectly. I don't think you can get a better combo at this price. Great purchase.

Comments about Manfrotto MK293A3-A3RC1 3-Way Alu Kit RC1:
I'm primarily a videographer using DSLR's. As such, most tripods I use are those with fluid heads, including, Vinten, Sachtler, Miller, and Manfrotto.
This tripod was bought strictly for lock down shots and still work. For this purpose this tripod works very well. Not an overly complex or beefy head, it's still built very well, and travels nicely in a suitcase.

I use this product at home recording instrumental music. The ease of operation is a plus. I also use this outside at such venues as Rennaisance Faires. It is really no problem and lengthening and/or shortening of the legs.
