Gary Fong is a lifelong photographer with a knack for innovative solutions for the normally harsh effects associated with standard on-camera lighting sources. As always, one of Gary's intentions is to eliminate the need for a camera bracket.
The Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible Basic Kit is based on the Lightsphere Collapsible diffuser--a round, soft, and flexible flash diffuser that slips on to any standard shoe mount flash unit and also folds away for easy travel. The inside of the Lightsphere is textured to soften and disperse the light, and because the collapsible Lightsphere is quite translucent, it helps conserve the total quantity of light. The Lightsphere Collapsible folds down to about 1/3rd of its original height when collapsed, and has a practical grip system which allows it to securely attach to any modern shoe-mounted flash.
Also included in this kit is a ChromeDome, which is a chrome reflector panel that will almost double the light output of the Collapsible diffuser; an AmberDome, which warms the light from your electronic flash for shooting outdoors at dusk or early morning; and a set of four color gels (red, yellow, blue, and green) designed for creative use of color with the Lightsphere Collapsible diffuser.

These are great additions to your external flash. I use them on all external flash units. Easy to use, quick to store, and will make flash light actually look good. Great for location shoots where you need to travel light. With two speedlites and two of these, and a couple stands, you can practically shoot a full modeling/portrait session anywhere.

I've been shooting with my Sony A77 since March and have been hesitant to shoot with my Sony HVL-F58AM flash mostly because I wasn't sure how harsh the light might be during low light photography especially wedding receptions BUT enter the Lightsphere Collapsible. My shots are now warm and without shadows. The diffuse lighting is great as well as the interchangeable domes for various lighting situations. It collapses and fits comfortably in my bag. Not only should you use this at any low light area but it is also great in the daylight as well. You cannot go wrong with this unit and you will never move to the 'dark side' but rather to the 'light side'. Go and get one!

I just bought my first Canon speedlight 580EXII. I know strait away that I need a light modifier to soften flash light.
I went for this kit as I also need chromedome and amberdome for collapsible sphere. To have an additional colour gels is also good.
I really enjoy it, and image is much better if compare to bounce light.

There is a lot you can do with these pieces. Whether you see Fong's youtube videos first or after you purchase the kit - you'll get motivated to do self-assignments right off the you tubes. He does these crazy cool things with the color gels, and the Lightsphere makes the images look more like available light than anything else. There's nothing 'not' great about this system of goodies.

Much better than using a normal flash. Flash lighting is applied evenly for all subjects and provides a flattering appearance. Highly recommended for any photographer that photographs people and pets. Although it is collapsible it is still quite bulky. Make sure you watch the instructional videos on the Gary Fong website. The chrome dome is useless and doesn't act as advertised. I use a 550Ex and the ligthsphere fits great.
