Canon's Speedlite 320EX is a versatile flash that includes an LED light on the front that can be used as a modeling light, an AF assist beam during Live View shooting, or to light up nearby subjects in low light for video recording. It will provide up to 4 hours of continuous lighting with fully-charged AA batteries. The 320EX is E-TTL- and E-TTL II-compatible using Type-A EOS cameras, and it has a guide number of 78.7'/24m @100 ISO at 24mm.

Vertical and horizontal bounce capability gives you more lighting options, as does the Wireless Slave function that supports 3 groups and 4 channels, allowing the flash to be used off camera. You can vary the flash coverage and guide number by manually extending or retracting the flash head, using the Normal or Tele positions. The 320EX operates on widely available AA batteries. Batteries are not included.

Built-in LED light can be used to illuminate nearby subjects in dim light - especially useful when shooting video, as a modeling light or as an AF assist beam (with Live View), providing up to four hours of continuous lighting with fully-charged AA batteries.
Versatile vertical and horizontal bounce capability provides an extended range of possible lighting effects.
Flash release function triggers the camera wirelessly from the flash on a 2-second delay, allowing the flash to be repositioned to illuminate the subject.
Wireless Slave function supports three groups and four channels, allowing the flash to be positioned off-camera.
Flash coverage can be switched by extending or retracting flash head, with Normal (24mm full-frame equivalent, max. Guide No. 79 ft./24m at ISO 100) and Tele (50mm full-frame equivalent, max. Guide No. 105 ft./32m at ISO 100) settings.

Flash is powerful and compares to higher end models in recovery and power.

The LED is exceptionally bright and is also a good powerful source for its size and price. Very convenient if you plan on switching from Still to Video or as a modeling light. Battery life seems to be excellent. Controls are limited but also add to the ease of use and forces me to use the camera to adjust Flash Exposure Compensation, which is a better practice anyway. I also tried it as a slave using a 580EX on camera and had no issues.
They use a new locking mechanism which works better than the previous dial models that would loosen up after a while.

Limitations you should be aware of. This flash does not have a power input for using with a battery pack. It also has two modes. Wide and Telephoto through the use of manually pulling the flash head in and out.

For the price I just couldn't help giving this speedlite a try. I was really curious how good the LED would be for video with my 5D. I'm going to stick with my typical lighting... except for in a pinch maybe. A little under powered all around, for a speedlite, but I am accustomed to my 580EX's and 580 EX II's.

My biggest issue is that you need to pull out the flash head for zoom flash. I'm not impressed with that at all.

Although it cannot be used on the hotshoe as a Master to trigger other speedlites, it can be used to trigger compatible cameras. Kind of neat if you're experimenting with your lighting. Using the camera's timer function, there's a 2 or 10 second delay from when you point the flash at your camera and fire; giving you time to position the 320EX. So, if you *do* have another flash mounted to your hotshoe, and it is set to Master it will fire as well.

Personally, for my needs, I've resigned myself to the fact that is is a speedlite that I will only use as a slave.

Certainly not complicated, easy-to-use and much cheaper than other Canon speedlites. Suitable for an entry-level flash.

    Comments about Canon Speedlite 320EX:

This was my first Speedlite flash. I found it very capable, but somewhat underpowered. I say capable because there are a number of features that I was very (pleasantly) surprised by that make up somewhat for the flash being underpowered. I think this is a great flash to "get your feet wet", but it seemed a bit pricy for what it delivers.

              Comments about Canon Speedlite 320EX:

Product arrived ahead of the shipping date. Have already used it for a photo job, and all worked as promised although I should probably point out; I'm responding to a request for a review from B&H regardless of the fact that I've only owned the Speedlite 320EX for about a week, and used it just once. I have not tried using the LED light to shoot video yet.
I think the real review should come a year from now. THEN I/we will know what kind of quality/value we've gotten.

                  Comments about Canon Speedlite 320EX:

I bought this product primarily to provide filler light via the LED when I shoot videos with my DSLR. It works as advertised. In low light conditions, which is primarily what the LED is for, it provides ample lighting so as not to blind the subject, but just enough for a 2.8 apperture lens to capture a good clip. On the flash photography side, it is powerful enough for the type of photography I do, but not as powerful as my bigger Speedlite. At any rate, it is still a more compact device that provides ample flash when needed and an LED bright enough to capture videos in low light conditions.

Flash quality is fairly good, but I am more happy about the LED light that provides light during video in the dark.

It doesn't seem to refresh as fast as 580EX, but that is to be expected.

                                      Comments about Canon Speedlite 320EX:

I bought a Cannon 60D and realized I needed a flash that was flexible for both recording video and flash photography. Overall, the 320 was made for just that. I like it but I think if I had to do it again I would choose the 400 series.

I just got this flash about a month ago, and i really like it. This flash is really simple to use and makes pictures really come to life. I do think another $100 will get you a much better flash; however, there is nothing wrong with this one.

I use this as an off camera slave that you can position anywhere with my APS-C Canon T4i. Flash head tilts up and down vertically and side to side horizontally for maximum creative choices. Also use it as on camera flash with my Canon 5D Mark III. You can also adjust distance between short and long flash reach. Nice equipment for the price.

Being new to DSLR's I wasn't sure if an upgraded flash would make a big difference in the quality of my pictures. But the Speedlite 320EX was a significant upgrade to the built-in flash on my EOS 3i, and the improvement in my low-light picture quality and color rendering has been astonishing. For my needs, the 320EX was exactly what I needed.
