Product Highlights
  • 8x Carbon Fiber Construction
  • 65" Height w/ 4-Section Legs
  • Individually Adjustable Spider Legs
  • 20 lb Load Capacity

The Polaroid PLTRIC 65" Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ Ball Head features both sticks and a head so you'll be instantly ready to go out and take steady shots. The tripod features a lockable 13" center column, four-section legs whose angles and extensions are individually adjustable, a 65" maximum height, and 8x carbon fiber construction for both lightweight portability and heavy-duty durability. With the ball head included, the full system's weight is 5 lb.

A fully articulating ball head with a quick-release plate is included. On the head is a bubble level so you can be certain your shot is locked to the horizon, even on uneven terrain. The spider-leg design enables you actually do something about that bubble's status. You can individually adjust each leg to achieve level support on sloping or rocky surfaces. This feature also enables supreme positioning flexibility so you can line up close-up shots of just about anything. The flip-locks keep each of the legs' four sections securely in place. Polaroid's unique internal gasket design prevents dirt and grit from invading the leg sections.

With the center column and leg sections fully extended, the tripod measures 65". Fully retracted, the carbon fiber tripod shrinks to a low 23". The locking center column features an accessory hook so you can add weight and thereby add stability. The system supports loads up to 20 lb, which will cover your camera body and any lens, with extra capacity to spare.

100% carbon fiber tube design is 50% lighter than metal, yet every bit as rigid & durable
Two bubble levels: one on tripod body, one on ball head

This is a very nice, well made tripod for the price. Very lightweight, heavy duty, and durable. I have used a similar Bogen/Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod and ballhead, and they are very similar. I cannot afford the $700+ Manfrotto version, but this Polaroid tripod cant be beat for the price.
There are a few however, aspects that keep it from being 5 stars in my opinion. First, when i mounted my Nikon D700 with 24-70 lens, and moved the camera into vertical position, the weight of the lens moved the camera out of position. After taking the base plate off, i noticed the mounting bolt is too long, and keeps the base plate from being locked down completely. I put a 35 cent, 5/16 washer underneath the head of the bolt and now it works perfectly.
Another aspect i noticed is the ball head does not have the ability to pan. This may be a deal breaker if you want to use it for video or stitching landscapes.
Finally, the leg adjustment locks are made of plastic, and may break overtime if you are really hard on your equipment.
Overall, if you want a lightweight, carbon fiber tripod with a metal ball head, for general use photography, this one cannot be beat. I would highly recommend this as an alternative to the super high-end expensive tripods.

i love the weight and style of this tripod. It is very intuitive.
When I pulled it out of the box I was surprised how light the tripod was. My excitement quickly turned bad when I tried to extend the legs.
The legs were so hard to extend that I had accidentally removed one of the legs out of the top extension by the column post.
It is hard to judge how much pressure to apply because the legs had various pressure that was not consistent with each legs.
Looking forward to the replacement ; hoping it was a freak defect for this unit.
I have a video tripod and another film tripod that is sturdy but to heavy.
I purchased this tripod from all the great reviews on BH website.

Comments about Polaroid PLTRIC 65" Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ Ball Head:

I have used a cheaper tripod before for 2 years, and I was not happy with its quality. Wanted to get something tall and sturdy, especially carbon fiber.I used this even to shoot 4th of July fireworks in NY. Even though it was a little bit windy, the tripod performed well. No blur what so ever in bulb mode.It reaches to very good height, and because of 4 tube section, it goes low as well. I love independent legs. Carrying case is nice too. This is really light weight compared to my other tripod.4 star is because of two reasons. 1- They just give one quick release plate, so now I will have to find another 1 or 2 for polaroid from somewhere. They should have given at least two.2- You might want to change ball head eventually. First of all it tilts sideway to just one side, so you might have to adjust your frame while shooting vertical. I guess I will get pen head in near future. One more thing, if you expect the center tube to move and tilt, you'll be up for disappointment. Polaroid should have included that feature like Feisol. Otherwise, the tripod is excellent for the money.I recommend this tripod for all except Pro Photographers (they should invest in Gitzo, Manfrotto, or Feisol)

Comments about Polaroid PLTRIC 65" Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ Ball Head:

There are several carbon fiber tripods out there in this price range. This one has the key features that work for me: 1)Carbon Fiber for lighter weight 2) clip-lock legs which are faster than twist type, 3) rated to hold up to 20lbs,4) removable ball head (you can replace it if you don't like this one), 5) retractable spiked feet.

This tripod holds my Nikon D7000 with 80-400MM telephoto easily and rock steady. The leg clips are plastic, so if you're hard on equipment, maybe not for you. The center column is metal, and where most of the weight comes from, but stabilizes the tripod.

Unless you're a pro (and maybe even then) and need the absolute top of the line, this is a deal.

Comments about Polaroid PLTRIC 65" Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ Ball Head:

I have been looking for a tripod that has a ball head, flip locks and also has legs that will adjust to those odd angles that standard tripods can get to.Because of arthritis in my hands and not great grip I opted for the flip locks on the leg sections. Which are easier then the twist locks and you really don't have to worry about the twist locks coming loose if you don't get them tighten down while you are trying to get that shot.I do sort have a concern about the tabs to adjust the extra non standard angles for the legs as they are just a pull and snap type locks. But for a start up tripod this is a great one...and my mentor also looked at it and recommended it for a first one.

Comments about Polaroid PLTRIC 65" Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ Ball Head:

With the medium price for carbon fiber tripod, this one is good. The difference between the 75" and 65" is the height, just 1 more leg stage which takes more time to release all the leg sections. Everything else is great. I don't like the spiked feet. It's not sharp enough to keep the tripod on rock but it's still ok.
