The Sony ICDBX112 Digital Voice Recorder has 2GB of internal flash memory, providing sufficient storage capacity for more than 500 hours of MP3 audio recordings at 8 kbps. Even at 192 kbps, the ICDBX112 can yield over 22 hours of high-quality MP3 recordings. Between the four MP3 recording rates, mic flexibility, extensive features and affordability - the ICDBX112 is a fitting digital voice recorder for chronicling class lectures, capturing live music, documenting board meetings and even just recording daily reminders and preserving oral to-do-lists.
Designed for straightforward, manageable voice and audio recordings, the ICDBX112 features a built-in monaural microphone, outfitted with Hi/Lo gain sensitivity control. It also supports Voice Operated Recording (VOR). Advantageous and truly handy, VOR allows you to audibly signal the start of a recording without ever pushing the record button. It's invaluable if you need to place the recorder out of reach or maybe across a room. It's also beneficial for eliminating the inevitable fumbling sounds that are recorded as you lift and set down a live microphone.
Conducive to quick and easy operation, the ICDBX112's LCD display is backlit and the navigation keys make it simple to move through the folders, functions and menus. Also designed for simplicity, the tactile REC & Play buttons are over-sized and centrally located on the recorder (similar to a mobile phone). The LCD screen can display the recording's date and time, as well as the remaining and elapsed time. It also works this way in playback mode. Easing any confusion as to what modes, functions and settings you're using at any point, the ICDBX112 is also equipped with revealing operational LED indicators to identify what's in use.
With a variety of features including Continuous Play, Easy Search, Noise-Cut, A-B Repeat and Digital Pitch Control, the affordable ICDBX112 is a fitting digital voice recorder for high-school and college students, as well as corporate professionals. Sony also provides Low-Cut Filter Protection, erase and divide options, the useful Add/Overwrite Recording function and the Direct Record to Play feature.
Another benefit enjoyed by the ICDBX112 user is its portability. Small, lightweight, and powered by two tiny AAA batteries, the ICDBX112 can record for an incredible 55 hours between battery changes. For more efficient time spent working in the field, Sony accented the ICDBX112 with an integrated 300mW front speaker for listening back over recordings out loud. If you prefer or need privacy, there is a 3.5mm stereo headphone output that can also be used as a line-out for connecting larger speakers. The ICDBX112 features a 3.5mm stereo mic input as well. When I purchased this recorder I assumed that all recorders have an option to upload to the computer, this one doesn't. You would be able to seperately purchase a cable if you wish to to this, there are forums online about the process. On a positive note, there are multiple features that are easy to use such as dividing recordings, multiple folders, time and date settings, and a hold button so that you don't accidentally record over previous recordings by accident. If you are looking for a product to upload your recordings, look around a bit more, but if you want this for record and play this product is perfect.

This recorder was everything as promised. I use it mainly for keeping reminders and also info that I want/need to use at a later time. I do a lot of digital photography and use the device to record pertinent info about the pics I'm shooting which I later burn onto a DVD for a slideshow to watch on the TV. The recorded data is used for captions I put with the pics.
Its usefulness and versatility are what is great about this recorder. I plan to use it more and more often. The price seened quite fair.
The one daunting thing about it is the HUGE sheet of instructions... I was at first quite overwhelmed by them but didn't take long to get the 'intuitive' hang of things.
Would recommend to anyone looking for such a gadget.

I use this recorder for lectures in school. It has really good recording capability. When I play it back I can hear the professor clearly speaking. I don't always have time to remember to switch my folders on the recorder however, and it has no option to transfer files to and from different folders. It that was an option I would rate it 5 stars.

Excellent documentation for the numerous capabilities of this little recorder; this may inhibit its' usage for those lacking reading skills. As it records in state of the art MP3 formats, simply connect the headphone jack out to a computer microphone or sound card auxiliary input & instantly upload your recording to your choice of software. This baby rocks! Only improvement I could wish for is maybe down the road it could be produced in a thinner model?

This is a great product, so far I am not having any problems with it. Everything is simple and easy to use. One thing that confused me for awhile was the folder button but once you get the hang of that everything should be good.
If you press the folder button it takes you through A B C D and E which are the different places you can start a recording. I have not tried recording twice in one folder for fear of recording over what I already have. So I'm not sure how that works.
However, the sound is pretty good, I record my whole hour classes 3 times and the battery still didn't drop a notch. The turn off button is easy you just press up the hold and it turns off, you push it down it turns on.
The only problem I have with this is the button sounds. I'm not sure how to silent those annoying beeps! Every time I press a button there is a beep so that's not really good for when the class gets quiet. And the volume button do not help it :(
But I still recommend it! Its small enough to stick in your pocket if you want!
