Product Highlights
  • 0.6-2.4 Variable Neutral Density Filter
  • Reduce Exposure by 2-8 Stops
  • Greater Control Over Exposure Settings
  • Larger Front Threads Reduce Vignetting
  • Holds Optical Quality at All Settings
  • Optical Glass Construction
  • Aluminum Filter Ring

The Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of approximately 2 to 8 stops. The 0.6 to 2.4 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, allowing you to previsualize the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is also visually demarcated with dots that represent different density values.

The filter is constructed from optical glass for high image quality and features an aluminum filter ring for rigidity and to prevent filter jamming. The front 55mm female threads of the filter are one standard size larger than the rear 52mm male threads to help minimize vignetting.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.6 to 2.4 ND filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 2 to 8 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Filter does not affect coloration of the image.
Optical glass construction maintains high image quality and aluminum filter ring works to prevent filter jamming.
Front threads measure 55mm to prevent vignetting.

This variable ND filter surprised me when I first tried it. It was so cool to see it get darker and lighter just by turning the fader.

Works VERY WELL to cut down very bright light. This is a must if you are shooting video with a DSLR and wanting that thin DOF. If you are wanting that nice cinematic look to your footage, you need a specific shutter speed, frame rate, usually the lowest ISO you can get, and the aperture wide open. So, to cut down on your light intake, you need an ND filter...and a variable ND filter is just plain smart.

I was using this Vari-ND filter for a few months before I noticed that it was introducing some gritty texture to my shots. It's most noticable in the soft focus boheh in the background of a shallow focus shot. It really ruins the look for me. So I sold it and moved on to another one that looks much better. I'm pretty picky though, and for most people this fader will work just fine.

Comments about Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:

Bought this filter hoping for a "good for the price" sort of product and am having an absolute blast with it. Huge range and so simple to use. I would buy this over again for sure for my larger lenses in a heartbeat (and probably will). Only weird thing was that the lens cap fits a little wonky on it so I wouldn't recommend keeping it on when it's in the bag.

Comments about Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:

Useful for preserving slower shutter speeds in daylight. Easy to use, would recommend buying the largest one possible b/c you don't absolutely have to attach it to your lens, you just need a free hand to hold it while u capture.

Only bad thing is that the increments are not real stops- just arbitrary bothers meaning you may have to trial ad error until you can sort of just tell (you now the extremes: 2-8.

Overall, this product does the trick and for the price itch it is really unbeatable.

Comments about Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:

Used as a simple ND filter, only with a swivel like a CPL. What's great about it? You don't have to carry 8 ND filters, just this one. What's not so good? As you begin to approach the final stops, a cross may appear on the image, and this has to do with the two elements reacting with each other. I think the obvious pros outweigh the cons. Why haven't you bought it yet?

Comments about Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:

The sheer fact this replaces a handful of ND filters is the reason to buy it. It was the reason I did, and have had no troubles. The only concern is that the product does say that at the 8th stop, a cross may appear on the image, and that's to do with the Polaroid. I found that out afterwards, but I would still have bought it over again

Comments about Light Craft Workshop 52mm Fader ND Mark II Filter:

This variable ND filter surprised me when I first tried it. It was so cool to see it get darker and lighter just by turning the fader.

Works VERY WELL to cut down very bright light. This is a must if you are shooting video with a DSLR and wanting that thin DOF. If you are wanting that nice cinematic look to your footage, you need a specific shutter speed, frame rate, usually the lowest ISO you can get, and the aperture wide open. So, to cut down on your light intake, you need an ND filter...and a variable ND filter is just plain smart.
