Product Highlights
  • Small Diaphragm Condenser
  • Cardioid Polar Pattern
  • High SPL Handling
  • Extended Frequency Response

The Audio-Technica AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphone is well suited for general instrument capturing, vocals, amplifier cabinets, and more. The microphone's small diaphragm condenser element yields a cardioid polar pattern for minimal noise at the off-axis sections of the capsule. The microphone's extended frequency response makes it versatile in the studio or stage. High SPL handling suppresses distortion when capturing transient sources such as drums, percussion, electric guitars, bass, piano and more.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

I have used this versatile microphone for instrument recording and tested it's use as a spare/secondary film dialogue microphone. For instrument recording, It sounded excellent used as drum overheads. It captured the full sound of the drums, and did especially well with the highs produced by the cymbals. I also used it as an ambiance mic to record a guitar amp from a distance of roughly 6 feet. It was able to capture details that the up close dynamic mic could not pick up. This mic combined with a close up dynamic mic makes an excellent guitar amp recording combo. As for film dialogue, It actually worked really well. It is not as bassy as other mics, but it captured the voice really well from a distance of about 2 feet, and the voice sounded crisp. It also did well rejecting noise from the room.. I am happy to have added this little mic to my gear inventory

Comments about Audio-Technica AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphone:

My friend and I have been doing some amateur recording with his MXL 990/991 pair. I figured it was time that I got my own condenser mics, so I went with this and its brother, the AT2020.

I've only used this for recording acoustic guitar and cajon, but have been pretty satisfied with the sound quality. I place this mic a couple inches from the 12th-14th frets, and the AT2020 off-axis from the sound hole.

I know there are better sounding, more expensive mics out there, but I'm glad to have started with this and the AT2020.
