I purchased this converter when I purchased an E-PL2 two lens kit. I did not have budget to buy the Oly 9-18mm wide zoom at the same time, so I thought I would try this converter as I wanted something wider than the lit lens.

The resolution is good, but it suffers from flare when a strong light source hits the lens at just the right angle. This is common for an add-on converter. One must be careful when there are strong light sources or the sun off to the side.

At the end of the day, it is a very useful and convenient accessory - and it attaches quickly via the bayonet adapter on the lens. I will still buy the wide zoom when I can afford it.

Bought this as a small and cheap alternative to the 9-18 mFT lens (and instead of using my full 4/3rds 9-18). I had read about it being interesting to attach, but it took me 3-4 attempts before I finally twisted it enough to actually click into the locked position.

Works well enough to get a bit wider FOV, but the image is definitely quite soft especially in the corners.

Comments about Olympus WCON-P01 Wide Converter:

I am very impressed with the WCON-P01. I am using it on an E-M10 with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R lens. The WCON-P01 does reduce the sharpness a little, and also reduces the contrast some, but it is actually better than I expected, and I wouldn't hestitate to use it if I needed a wider angle for a particular shot.

I tried it vs a Canon EF-S 10-18mm STM lens (set at 14mm) and the WCON-P01 actually looked somewhat sharper (at f8; I didn't try anything else). However, I think that the Oly camera by default is doing more sharpening on jpgs than the Canon camera (SL1), so it is difficult to judge. But the fact that the WCON-P01 was even in the same ballpark means it is quite good.

I did notice that the WCON-P01 gives a wider angle than the specified 11mm (22 equivalent with 2x crop factor), because the WCON-P01 gives noticably wider results than the Canon 10-18 set at 14mm (also 22 equivalent, with 1.6 crop factor). So, the WCON-P01 may be giving more like 21mm equivalent (1mm means a lot at these wide settings). Actually, now that I look at the full specs for the WCON-P01, it does say 20.8mm equivalent, so I can confirm this (kind of odd; I though m4/3 had a 2x crop factor).

My only complaint is that the WCON-P01 does NOT lock into place on my lens. It goes on very easily and rotates very loosely till it stops after about a quarter of a turn. I didn't try forcing it very hard at that stopping point, because it just didn't feel like it was going to do anything more, and also I have experience with the Oly lenshood for this lens and it locks into place very positively and easily. So I am kind of thinking that the WCON-P01 isn't intended to lock into place, at least on the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R lens. I do think I'll be worried that it might fall off, and will have to keep an eye on it, especially if I'm turning the zoom on the lens at all, since it would be easy to turn both and have it fall off. Of course, if you are going to zoom in, you should take the WCON-P01 off anyway.

My version arrived defective but I'm not going to judge it on that fact. I hate when people do that!
My adapter did not lock into place on my kit lens.
If you have the kit lens and cannot afford something wider buy one. For the price it's a no brainer. Even though I returned my version and bought the 12mm lens instead the performance was good. Examining my test images taken with this adapter I had no issues. The images were sharp and the borders looked pretty good. Quality wise it felt good and would of kept it if it locked into place. But I love my 12mm lens.

No noticeable vignetting when used with 14-42mm lens

        Cons:
Can only be used with 14-42mm lens

        Other:
It can be used on Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens but fits loose and loss of sharpness is evident.

Using it on the kit lens with my oly epl5 and it works perfectly.

Widest at 11mm wide enough without much noticeable distortion.

Good for time where 14mm is just not wide enough in group shots.

Metal and good solid glass construction.

It does not effect the AF performance.

Comments about Olympus WCON-P01 Wide Converter:

I am currently traveling across Europe, and this WCON-P01 converter has proved to be a perfect combination of price, portability, and utility. If you are a consumer looking for a small device to expand the capabilities of your PEN camera without adding bulk or spending a large sum of money, I highly recommend going with the CON series. Also, B&H offers it at a cheaper rate than on the Olympus website, making this purchase even better. At this price, the product obviously has its drawbacks, most notably, the time it takes to fumble around with removing a UV (or other) filter from the 14-42mm lens and replacing it with the converter (which doesn't fit properly with the bayonet device if the filter is left attached). Still, for the price and portability, this is an excellent buy.

This wide convertor gives your 14-42mm kit lens that little bit extra viewing angle without a fisheye distortion.

As I said in my fisheye convertor review, if you're after a light camera bag setup, this convertor, as well as the fisheye and macro convertors, stack well into a single lens spot in your camera bag and give your 14-42mm lens some added versatility

Comments about Olympus WCON-P01 Wide Converter:

This converter changes the effective FOV from 28mm (35mm equivalent)
to about 22mm (35mm equivalent) I use it for group shots and travel where
the extra FOV really helps to get more in your picture. If you cannot afford the 9-18mm expensive option then this is good choice. AVOID other converters as they are not of the same quality.

Images remain sharp in the corners and there is no difference in light transmission with or without the converter. It serves its purpose well for me.

It's a simple and easy way to have that extra wide view without having to have an extra lens. I take it with my ep3 on my ride to work each day.

Comments about Olympus WCON-P01 Wide Converter:
