Comments about Logan Graphics 750-1 Simplex Elite Mat Cutter (40" Cut Length):
Thus far, I have used the paper cutter, the straight cutter, and the bevel cutter. The paper and straight cutters were easy to use. After a little practice I was able to make perfect bevel cuts. When I received the mat cutter, the mat guide was parallel but the squaring arm needed re-squaring. That was a simple task using a carpenter's square. The crawl pin on the 8-ply mat cutter was jammed. Logan replaced it and the new unit was fine. The wheel shaft and cutting wheel on the glass cutter were not on the cutter when I received it and I thought they had been left off. I unfolded the box the cutter came in and found the parts in one of the folds. The documentation is well written but some of the drawings are too small, particularly on the figures where small parts are being discussed. The DVD and online videos are much better. I would have given a 5 star rating had the QC and written documentation been better.

Comments about Logan Graphics 750-1 Simplex Elite Mat Cutter (40" Cut Length):
I'm a novice when it comes to mat cutting but I was able to accurately
create a mat with a window cutout with no errors on my first attempt.
The instructional book and the superb videos that come with the unit
provided all the necessary info to do the job. The straight cuts and
bevels were all perfect and everything was square.
Of course nothing is really perfect so here goes some slight
shortcomings of the Simplex 750-1:
~When you're pulling the bevel tool towards you, it's difficult to keep
the tool's guide mark in view since your right hand is in the way. You
can avoid this problem simply by setting the stop at the bottom and
relying on it rather than your eye to prevent an overcut. Logan's
directions show you both ways but it's just a silly design error in my
opinion.
~The small plastic stop screw on the bevel tool arrived broken. I called
Logan and they sent me two replacement screws which arrived within a
week. Rather than wait to use the unit, I temporarily replaced the
broken plastic stop screw with a #10 metal set screw.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Simplex and the Logan company
itself. And, at the great price B&H has on this unit, I don't think you
can go wrong.

Comments about Logan Graphics 750-1 Simplex Elite Mat Cutter (40" Cut Length):
I have been wanting to get into matting and framing because my husband is an exceptional wildlife photographer and I am always shocked by the cost of professional framing. I was initialy going to get a cheaper model, but my husband talked me into this one because it does EVERYTHING - in addition to regular mats, it has all the tools to cut 8-ply mats, foamboard, acrylic, paper, and even glass. So far I have only used it for mats (only had it for 4 days) but I am thoroughly excited by the possibilities. The instructions that come with it are very clear, it is easy to use, and the construction is very solid. As an extra nice touch, the framing book that comes with it gives you all sorts of other cool ideas. Looks like I may have to start making my own frames soon.

Comments about Logan Graphics 750-1 Simplex Elite Mat Cutter (40" Cut Length):
The Logan Simplex Elite Model 750-1 mat cutter is an upgrade and improvement to the Simplex Plus Model 750. It is easy to set up and accurate in operation. However, the instructions, as complete as they are, do NOT tell you that the squaring arm must be adjusted properly in order to ensure a square cut. There are two screws in the channel of the base which the arm slides under and another screw on the opposite side of the channel which applies pressure on the arm to keep it in position. Unless you back the keeper screws out enough to cause a slight force fit of the squaring arm into the channel, the pressure screw will allow the arm to pivot. Once I figured out that the keeper screws could be adjusted, I get perfectly square cuts every time.
In all other ways, the mat cutter is ideal for those who want to mount and mat pictures for themselves. The 750-1 includes a bevel cutter for cutting mats, a straight cutter for cutting foam board, an 8-ply bevel cutter for cutting thicker mats, a glass cutter, and an acrylic cutter.
Overall, an excellent mat cutter.
