Sigma's 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens (For Sony) is designed for use with full-frame digital cameras, and offers a dramatically ultra-wide, minimally distorted zoom lens with a field of view from 122° to 84.1°. This range makes it ideal for the tightest of interiors, as well as for dramatic landscape photography. Using a camera with an APS-C sensor will give you an effective range of 17-35mm, also a very attractive wide-angle zoom range.

One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass element and four "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) glass elements compensate for color aberration and deliver improved image quality. Three glass mold elements and one hybrid aspherical lens give you compact, lightweight construction (3.3" diameter x 4.7"/23.6 oz) and improved performance.

Super Multi-Layer Coating on the lens reduces flare and ghosting, while the Inner Focusing system keeps the length of the lens unchanged when changing focus. The splash-proof design helps protect the 12-24mm lens from the elements. This versatile, sturdy lens will put drama into just about any subject you choose.

Designed for use with full frame digital cameras. May also be used with smaller APS-C size sensors with a corresponding effective increase in focal length to about 17-35mm with most cameras

Comments about Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens (For Sony):

I bought this lens for landscapes, when used on the A7 with the LA EA4 adapter, it operates like a charm. Because I still have the A700 and plan to use that at times too, the A-mount was the way to go (not that there is an E-mount version of this lens or any Sony lens currently in this range). I found this lens acceptable on my hikes where I would put it, the adapter and my main lens in my daypack. It is a bit heavy, but I didn't find that to be an issue, it is quiet and you can't hear the focus when on the camera.

Comments about Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens (For Sony):

I bought this lens for my sony A7 using LAEA-4 since no sony product with this focal length. The focus is fast and picture is sharp once you're > f8. You can't hear the motor when the lens is doing the auto focus. I Love the fast focus of this lens. This lens is perfect if you are looking for a UWAL with FF format. The lens is almost a weight of the Sony 70-200 f4. Quality wise the lens is made of metal with rubber rings. This lens is not a weather sealed. I'm thinking of getting a wonderpana system so that I can use the filter.

      Wide but beware color fringing

Comments about Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens (For Sony):

Yes it's wide but after you get rid of the edge color fringing (I used on A900) the images are soft. Best to use profile in photoshop. I sent this lens back.

Comments about Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens (For Sony):

        On A850,
At ~12mm, frame edge not sharp at f/4.5, but will be sharpen up at f/11. Some distortions are visible. No other 12mm full frame AF lens in Sony mount anyway, so no comparison.
At ~15mm, sharpness improve and compare to my very old Sigma 14/3.5, the zoom is sharper and with better flare control.
between 17 to 24mm, it has equal or better distortions and flare control than my minolta 17-35/2.8-4, tokina 20-35/2.8, and tamron 20-40/2.7-3.5 lenses. Sharpness is even across the frame even wide open which still improve a little if stoping down. However, when stop down to f/8 to f/11, both tokina and tamron are giving a little higher resolution results than the sigma zoom.
If you already has a high end ultra wide covering 17-35mm, this lens will be useful only if you need that extra coverage from 12 to 16mm.
If this is your only wide angle lens, it will give you very solid performance at f/8 and has no wasted overlap in focal length with your standard zoom lens.
I usually take wide angle pictures between f/8 to f/22 on tripod; therefore, I personally don't think f/4.5-5.6 is a huge negative point compare to a 16-35/2.8 zoom.
Last note is that at 12mm and f/11 or smaller at MFD (e.g. for those large flower close up on the hill side), dirt particle on your sensor will easily show up in your picture. It has nothing to do with this Sigma lens in particular, it happens just because too much DOF.

It takes sharp pictures. Distortion is not bad when the camera is level. Great wide angle lens, very pleased to have it in the bag.
