The 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition from Iomega is a powerful and versatile network storage device with a plethora of enhanced online connectivity features. The spacious hard drive connects to your home network via a Gigabit Ethernet connector and works to bridge the gap between local and online storage -- which is also known as cloud storage.
The ix2-200 is a dual-drive system, and can be configured as a RAID 1 or JBOD. The RAID 1 configuration mirrors data to both physical disks. This halves the available storage capacity, but ensures that no data will be lost if either disk fails. If you need the full 4TB of storage that this drive is capable of, you should configure it as a JBOD. In this mode, your computer will see each physical disk as a separate volume.
You can configure the drive to automatically upload files stored within specified folders to Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr. Its remote data access feature allows you to access your data when you are away from home -- all you need is an Internet connection. You can also invite friends and family to view specific files or folders stored on the drive -- a great way for you to share family snapshots and vacation photos with relatives who think that Twitter is a little yellow cartoon bird who is constantly harassed by "puddy tats."
When you are at home, you'll be happy to know that the drive can stream multimedia files to UPnP/DLNA devices. This includes game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Apple TV owners will be happy to know that the device has a built-in iTunes server. The Home Media drive also has a built-in BitTorrent downloader, which can grab files from the Internet -- even when your computer is off.
If you are in need of a network backup solution, it should comes as no surprise that this Swiss Army knife of a drive does that too. It can backup all of the computers in your network, and is also compatible with online backup services like Mozy Pro and Amazon S3. Mac users will be able to perform network backups to the drive via Time Machine.
Photographers will be able to download photos from a digital camera to the drive via USB. You can also set the drive to downsize and watermark your photos, perfect for those who wish to share their work online -- but don't want to see it stolen and reproduced without permission. The USB port can also be used to connect an external hard drive -- giving you more room to store files -- or to connect a printer -- making it easy to print from any computer in your network. Users who use Axis IP security cameras will be happy to know that the StorCenter ix2 can act as a server for up to five of them.

I use this device to share photos across multiple PCs and mobile devices. Basic setup was easy but additional tweaking was required, e.g. to enable important communications protocols and energy saving settings. The device would benefit from a more comprehensive step by step setup wizard.
The features are extensive, this NAS supports every protocol under the sun. I haven't tried cloud features yet.
Overall the UI and the Iomega website have a more professional IT feel than most consumer oriented devices/sites, which was a plus for me because I'm an advanced user. But it may be a bit overwhelming for a novice user.
Iomega-provided mobile applications for iOS and Android are mediocre at best but you don't have to use them. There are many applications available both on the Apple App Store and on Google Play Market. It took me a while to find a photo viewer that performs well on the iPad, Remote File Browser is the best I found so far. Still looking for a good performer for Android, for some reason the ones I tried so far are somewhat sluggish on my Motorola Droid 2 Global. NAS itself is very fast, browsing photo libraries from a PC connected via a wired link is indistinguishable from the local hard drive.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

I intended to set up the Iomega NAS to my Apple Airport Extreme router to be used as a remote server, but the two devices don't speak the same internet language. As a local wifi server device it works fine, but not as a web server.
I wish I could return it, but B&H policy does not accept open packaging of electronic devices, so I am hosed.

Using for business, to do backups, keep a RAID copy and sync with another device offsite. Small foot print, sits insde our rack.
However, one CON is that it gets a bit HOT. It feels hotter than what you'd expect it to be at.
Thinking of getting one for personal use for the itunes server ability and torrent downloading.
I recommend it.

We store all of our company files on it in mirror mode. Backups are much easier & faster now with all files in one place, rather than scattered over five computers. I no longer have to worry about one system crashing and causing major poblems getting us up and running. The secure setup is much easier and faster than any other file server or for that matter simple computer I've worked on. The only thing I've come across that I would change is that the backup software it comes with is for third party cloud companies. I just need simple backup operations to another computer / hard drive etc..
I plan on buying another one for my home to help with backing up all of my family photos.

If it is not easy i will not do it. Period. Having said that - i'm quite happy to have purchased this unit. Has to reside near the wired router (no wireless) - which is the only complaint i could find.

Arrived on date promised, was easy to attach to my home network. Didn't like the preset folders - was simple to change to what I wanted. Set as RAID 1 to store music, photos and produced video. Haven't tried the Cloud features yet but instructions appear clear. Some noise from drives but not offensive. Fan ON indicator was erratic at first - kept getting e-mail notifications. Now seems to be working properly without any tweaking by me. Drives can be removed quickly. I like the metal case which helps to dissipate heat. Performance on the network has been fine for all the video files - no pauses.

So far I have been impressed with the features and the value of the product. I like the ability to sync or mirror drives over the internet which allows me to store one at a friends or relatives and keep my local to ensure my treasured memories aren't lost.

I use this device to backup my home network.
Pros: small size, inexpensive, cloud capabilities, friendly USA based tech support
Cons: 1) setup more complicated than advertised. After 4 days, I have yet to complete the setup of all features. It requires knowledge about technical aspects of your router, port forwarding and settings, opening ports, etc. Help is only available from your router's manufacturer, not from Iomega who declines to provide assistance on another company's router. If you're beyond the warrantly or tech support period for your router, you are on your own so good luck. Although I'm not a computer engineer, I'm not a novice either and have had PC's for 20 years, maintain my home network, provide tech support for my parents via remote control, and have doctoral degree in a scientific field.
2) the poorly written manual assumes you have knowledge about the field and NAS storage terms that lay public will not know. It's difficult to follow the directions if you do not understand them.
3) no sync program is included. no backup software program is included either but one must download one from the Iomega website.
