The Sound Blimp for the Nikon D3S, D3X and D3, D4 Digital SLR Cameras from AquaTech is one of the most useful accessories a photographer can purchase. When shooting in "quiet" venues such as courtrooms, sound stages, or theaters, this tool can help you get shots that would ordinarily not be obtainable. If where you are is a "No Noise" photographic setting - buy a blimp. And, for the outdoor photographer who wants dynamic shots of undisturbed wildlife, a blimp is the way to go.

Made from a durable polyurethane material and complemented by stainless steel controls as well as hard-anodized aluminum and high-strength plastic, a sound blimp will also gain you the respect of the people you're working with since they will appreciate how you've gone the extra mile to be silent in their domain.

Using a blimp is easy. You're camera fits inside the sound proof housing and is connected to an optional lens port that accommodates the focal length of the particular lens you're using. The unit also features a built-in 1/4-20 and 3/8 tripod mount, quick-release clip with safety latch and a two-stage shutter release.

Note: The Aquatech sound blimp is not to be used in the water; requires lens port

Sound blimps have been shown to decrease camera shutter noise by more than 90%
The housing itself is sound proof due to the sound dampening foam used in the construction
Features a tripod mount - both 3/8 and 1/4-20 threads
Works in conjunction with an interchangeable lens port system

Comments about AquaTech 1042 Sound Blimp for the Nikon D3S, D3X and D3, D4 Digital SLR Cameras:

I have been waiting for a company to design a new blimp that is modernized.
This just may be the one.
          I like it.
My only concern is that the foam may wear out too soon and not be sound proof.
You can hear a very faint shutter but overall....so far sooooo good.

Comments about AquaTech 1042 Sound Blimp for the Nikon D3S, D3X and D3, D4 Digital SLR Cameras:

Awesome! Great addition to my kit! It's about time there was an alternative option. Love the construction and ergonomics, makes it easy to handle. Bonus are the plungers on the backside giving you access to buttons while in the case. It is harder to change lens and the snug fit does not make for easy access. But it well worth the benefits of a superior product!

Comments about AquaTech 1042 Sound Blimp for the Nikon D3S, D3X and D3, D4 Digital SLR Cameras:

I am a stills photographer in the Film/TV industry and use sound blimps so that I can shoot during actual action takes. There has been only one company manufacturing blimps for the past 5o years and they are awkward, heavy and out of date.
The Aqua Tech blimp is approximately the same weight, but ergomatically designed to fit the hand. They seem to be a tiny bit quieter and have been designed to permit you to change the settings on your camera without opening the blimp, The lens tubes screw in and are more secure.
The only thing I don't like is that you must screw in the lens tubes which slows down changing lens.

This is a great product, well made and user friendly but unfortunately short on documentation. Some brief instruction/maintenance notes are included but use some terms that possibly only relate to Aqua Tech products.Guys, a diagram would be so easy to include. As for the website manual, totally useless,to call it a manual...tell them they are joking.
I have been a Film & TV Stills Photographer for 35 years and this is the best sound blimp I have encountered.

Comments about AquaTech 1042 Sound Blimp for the Nikon D3S, D3X and D3, D4 Digital SLR Cameras:

I used the sound blimp to house my Nikon D3s and a Nikkor 70-200mm VRII lens to photograph a live performance of the Nutcracker. It was very effective in eliminating sound from an otherwise rather noisy camera. You will want to practice with this item and determine what will be your most optimum focus point if you decide to use it that way prior to shooting your live performance. The only down side is that it is bulky and is best used with a Manfrotto monopod. Documentation is limited but it is fairly obvious how to use it. The shutter release button is a little stiff and it is a little difficult not to fire off 2 shots for every push when using continous High speed shutter release mode.
