The B+W 49mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.
The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters incorporates an additional 8th layer over the regular MRC and results in a better beading effect with water for greater cleaning efficiency.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features the XS-Pro Digital mount which is specifically designed for DSLR use with wide angle and zoom lenses. The filter ring is made from brass for durability as well as jamming prevention.
Note: This filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size, and because of this you may be unable to attach the lens manufacturer's bayonet-mounted lens hood to the lens while using this filter. This is dependent on your specific lens and how thick the front rim of the lens is; with thinner, low-profile lenses usually being affected more.

I normally only use a UV filter when strong haze is present or I am working in a dirty environment. I bought this filter to use with my X100 and since I carry it most places, I have found it easy to keep on all the time. Most locations are less than ideal and it is nice to know the camera lens which is not interchangeable, is protected.

I have the greatest respect for the quality and workmanship of B+W filters -- I've used them for decades and I have over a hundred. Unfortunately, this model is very slightly too large in diameter, thus, bayonet style lens hoods (typically those furnished by camera makers) will not quite fit over this filter. Either that, or if they barely do fit, when you turn the lens hood to secure it, you will tighten the filter so much that you will probably need a filter wrench to remove it.
This comment may not be true for all setups, but for Sony NEX and micro 4/3rds lenses, WATCH OUT!

B+W never disappoint. So easy to clean and stays crystal clear.
If using on a Sony 49mm E-Mount lens. The ring on this filter is too big to allow the lens hoods to slide over.

Comments about B+W 49mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter:
I bought four of these filters for my new Sony E mount lenses, and none of the camera shops her in Dubai stock such small sizes. They are, no doubt, substantially made and excellent pieces of glass. Unfortunately they are so substantially made that the lens hoods can't be attached to the lenses while the filters are in place. In the end I bought Sony's own filters which work perfectly.

While this is thin, the ring is also broader than the regular version, so the Sony Nex sun-shade (don't know the term in English) does not fit!

Had previously ditched UV filters and only used polarizing filters when required. However after buying the Fuji X100 I decided to give this B+W Nano filter a try and I was pleasantly surprised with its superb quality and how thin it was. Love it!
