I must admit, I bought more tripod for my little camcorder than I really needed, but this one had every feature I was looking for. Years of experience tells me to buy for the features I need, even if it means I put off buying to save more money. At only 7.12 pounds, it' still seems a little heavy, but that's just me being spoiled to my carbon fiber SLR tripod. This tripod is wonderful. I haven't used it for an event yet, but gave it a good run through after unboxing.I couldn't find another model with these bundled features:LED lighted bubble levelFlip levers to extend legsFlip levers for mid-level spreaderTrue fluid headSpike feetBag includedAdjustable dragUnder 8 poundsAll metal head

I purchased this tripod based on the great reviews it had and its purported functionality. However, after a few months of use I am not happy with it.1) Adjusting the ball head is very clunky and difficult. It seems like it has been getting worse over time, with just regular light use. It is hard to make small adjustments.2) The horizontal pan 'lock' is nice and tight, but the vertical one is horrible! With my 5D3 and a 70-200 F/4 L IS lens this head will slump forward because the vertical pan lock is simply not tight enough! Very poor.3) I suspect the level indicator is not properly calibrated with the tripod head. Even when it is perfectly centered, it does not look level. In fact, it is so off that my 5D3's internal digital level shows red! (If have own a 5D3 you'll know what I mean.)4) The tripod bag does not have a should strap, only a handle. Small gripe, but still...I guess there is a chance I just got a bad tripod, but even then that just points to QC issues. For the price, if everything worked properly, this tripod would be great. But as-is I am very disappointed and am seeking a return/refund!

Comments about Daiwa / Slik DST-43 Broadcast Tripod with Fluid Video Head:

I shoot with a 5D Mark iii and this tripod is PERFECT. My previous tripod was too light for this camera, so I did the research and found this particular tripod. It is hefty enough to survive a documentary shoot, plus light enough to carry around (up and down stairs...).I would be cautious to use this tripod on a narrative project b/c a good shove could push it over. But I needed it for quick documentary shoots - I often "one woman show" it, and this was a great investment! We did shoot on an incredibly windy day in DC once, so I had a PA keep a hand on it - but I would probably have had a PA do that with any tripod!

i bought the DST 40 a couple of years and found it to be a workhorse. lightweight, easy to set up. which is why i bought the DST-43 when I needed to get three news for the road. i use them with a Sony FS 100, Canon XF105 cameras and it's perfect.

I used this Saturday for the first time while recording a band performance for a promotional video. I loved it. We used this on a tripod dolly and track and it is stable, smooth and easy to use. What more could you ask? Well a good price. That is there as well.

Comments about Daiwa / Slik DST-43 Broadcast Tripod with Fluid Video Head:

I wanted a tripod to be more stable and smooth action with fluid video-head for moderate weight prosumer video camera. This unit works well. I have a smaller tripod with a good fluid head that was just a bit too light for this camera. So I think the DST-43 is a very good choice. The fluid-head of the DST-43 provides a lot of drag resistance compared to what I was used to ...but this is still a good balance for a heavier camera.
