[...].In Geekbench 64bit, my Macbook Pro 13" went from a score of 5800+ up to about 6400+. That's a huge jump and a big cut in booting up. I then removed the 4 GB or ram from Samsung and upped that to 8 GB from Crucial. My gain? only 50 points in Geekbench. And pretty much the only app that will access the extra memory is Photoshop, as proven by by iStat Dashboard app. Seeing as you can get the 8 GB of ram for the same price as this drive, get this drive instead if your budget is tight. So can a solid state give you more speed? Sure. But can it do it at a price point of 60 dollars, AND provide you with 500 MB? You know the answer is NO. While the drive produces some noise, you'll only notice it in a perfectly quiet home. So unless you're a librarian with buckets of cash sitting around, forget the SSD and get this.Lastly, if you're wondering how Toshiba compares with Seagate or WD in the 2.5 mobile segment, I can tell you this. Almost all of the Seagates I've ever owned, usually 3.5's, have given up the ghost. And while I've always liked WD in the 3.5 form factor, I do have one 2.5 WD that's excessively slow. Toshiba is what apple tends to use in their higher end line (save for the low end 13") so I think you can't go wrong with them.Cheers,Paul

I initialized this Hitachi drive, then fully formatted it, which took 5 hours; next I attempted to clone my C drive (Windows system drive) to it. In the past, I've done this exact procedure without trouble but in this case the destination drive (the Hitachi being reviewed) had an error about 95 percent of the way thru the cloning process. (The cloning software told be about this error.)
I thought well 95 percent complete may mean that all of the important Windows system information got copied to the Hitachi drive, so I tried this Hitachi drive as my C drive, and no my Windows 7 computer would not start.
I then put the Hitachi drive back in the external USB case and attempted a full format again--that didn't work, though the short format did work.
Platter read test software which I ran to test this drive also said there were serious errors on it.
I returned the drive to BH for a refund.
I've never had a hard drive fail so quickly, hope that it was just a bad one that got through Hitachi's vetting process.
From a different source, I bought a bare Western Digital 500 gig hard drive, and that worked correctly. I initialized it, fully formatted it, and cloned my C drive to it; it's now the C drive in my laptop.

Works well with my Atomos Ninja 2 video recorder. Used for low action camera moves (pans, tilts, gentle dolly moves). The spinning disc is a little noisy when used close to the microphone.

I work with high bit rate HD video. My Atomos Samurai captures Un-compressed HD-SDI Video directly to HDD. Thanks to the ExFAT formatting file size is almost limitless. These drives spin fast record fast and provide enough buffering to get the job done reliably and inexpensively.

Comments about HGST 500GB Travelstar 2.5" SATA II Mobile Hard Drive Kit:
I had wanted the 1TB drives with this kit but got the 500GB drives instead. Wish I had the larger drives (isn't that always the case!). For the present time, the 500GB drives are adequate but I'm sure I will be adding larger capacity drives in the future. These drives do put out an awful lot of heat in my Drobo Mini. I don't keep it running any longer than necessary. Tech support at Drobo don't think it's an issue.

Hitachi bought the hard drive business from IBM, some years back, therefore they have a very good platform to make hard drives. I have bought many Hitachi hard drives and none so far have failed. Even my MacBook Pro came with a Hitachi hard drive. I bought two of these drives to populate the Sabio DM2-PT Enclosure to use as an external RAID1 hard drive and reliable data repository. Key in buying them was that the drives had 7200 rpm speed and the 2.5 in. size.

After scratching my head about solid state hard drives, I opted for the much cheaper choice. It works perfectly, and runs very quietly. Big enough for my needs, and I even turned my old internal hard drive into a USB external hard drive.

My roommate accidentally knocked my computer off a small ledge and my hard drive was damaged. I bought this drive to replace it because it was the same price as a name brand hard drive but with better specs. So far it has worked perfectly, although I have noticed it's a bit louder than my previous hard drive (a Western Digital) when accessing data. For the price, though, I can't complain, and 98% of the time it's inaudible. All in all I'm pleased with this purchase.

Comments about HGST 500GB Travelstar 2.5" SATA II Mobile Hard Drive Kit:
I bought this as an upgrade to my HP 8530p laptop. My original laptop had a Hitachi drive, so I decided to upgrade it with something that would be the most compatible. I couldn't tell if this was an advanced format drive, but I don't think it was. I've been using it for about a month with no issues. It is just as quiet as the last drive. It was shipped without any packing around the box so it bounced around a bit in shipment. (I ordered a second one and it was packed more carefully.) I ran a speed test and the read speed was 50% faster than my old internal drive; I didn't check the write speed. My laptop had a sleeve that holds the hard drive and all mounting holes on the sides lined up fine.
