Ordering and shipping from B&H was terrific as usual! The hard drive was easy to install in my Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista 32-bit since the motherboard had a spare SATA port (you need to purchase an SATA cable since the hard drive package does not include one) and a spare power connector. The hard drive does not come with installation instructions so I experienced some difficulties getting my computer to recognize the new drive. The BIOS recognized the new drive, but it would not assign a drive letter. After researching this issue online, I found that you must go into the Windows Computer Management to: 1) initialize the drive; and 2) format the drive into one or more partitions. After doing this, everything worked great. I created two 1 TB partitions. The drive has huge capacity and is very quiet. For Windows Vista, Computer Management can be found under: Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management. The hard drive ships unformatted (for flexibility to use with Apple or Windows) so you must format the drive to be able to use it.I would give this drive 5 stars if it shipped with adequate instructions.

Due to the current hard drive shortage, I had to stray from my usual, trusted brand. I purchased 10 drives and had 2 die day one. The others are performing fine, after a week of spin time. I, however, do not have much confidence in them.

Installed easily in my HP Pavilion h8-1240-t as a second hard drive. I formatted as primary and have been using it for about 3 weeks as a storage/media drive. Of course, nothing here speaks to longevity. The HP came with a 1 TB Hitachi drive that seems to run a slight bit quieter, but no complaints on the noise level on this one. It is SATA III as compared to the other SATA II. MOBO has SATA III connection. It seems fast enough, but I don't care about running speed test.

Bought 3 of these for my new Drobo 4 Bay. Plug and play with ease. They work great in the Drobo and as far as reliability is concern, only time will tell. For what I got these drives for, they offer great value and 7200 rpm performance when compared to similar systems.

Would give 5 stars, but haven't had it long enough to tell. Smokin fast, even using a Voyager doc. Quiet as well. We used a number of these for media management on the last show we shot solid state, and they stood the test of the western desert and field shoot, so I figured they were good enough for my Mac Pro. Hitachi mo betta than western digital.

Comments about HGST 2TB Deskstar 3.5" SATA II Internal Desktop Hard Drive:

In the past I've primarily purchased Seagate drives, but when they recently changed the length of their warranties, I decided to look elsewhere.

I'm using this on a new Win7 system to store all my data files (documents, photos, videos, catalogs, etc). There were no problems with installation, and it's very quiet.

Note that a SATA cable is not supplied.

                                              1. Using this in my unRAID Array.

                                              2. Hitachi makes a solid drive, I always do well with Hitachi.

                                              3. I wish they were still making the 5300K drives. For my use that is more than fast enough. Still, it a Hitachi, and that's good enough.
