The Lensbaby Composer Pro With Sweet 35 Optic for Nikon F is part of the Lensbaby series of SLR lenses, and offers the same spectacular special-effect results. However, the refined and enhanced Composer Pro gives you ultra-smooth focus and tilt control and will retain its position after being bent, which makes it easy to use even with one hand. Simply tilt the lens to a desired angle and then focus with a traditional barrel focusing ring.

The Sweet 35 Optic is a 35mm optic with a 12-blade diaphragm and adjustable aperture (f2.5-f/22) that gives you unprecedented precision control over your selective focus photos--just rotate the dial on the front of the optic to quickly change the size of your in-focus "sweet spot". This is the widest focal length of any Lensbaby selective focus optics--the Sweet 35 also has close-focus capabilities. The lens can be bent off-center in any direction for different results.

The Composer Pro is compatible with the Optic Swap System--a line of different "optics" that can be interchanged with the Muse and Composer versions. This provides artists with an almost unlimited variety of looks and styles to capture their unique visions.

The Composer Pro comes supplied with the Sweet 35 Optic.

No electronic communication is possible between the camera and the lens. All operation is strictly manual. Automatic light metering is possible by shooting in aperture priority mode for almost all digital and film SLR camera bodies.
12-blade diaphragm adjustable aperture.
High-quality optic with 4 multi-coated elements in 3 groups.
The Composer Pro features a unique manual focus design which requires more rotation to move the optic as you approach infinity. This makes it easier to focus on objects at intermediate and distant depths than regular manual focus lenses.

After reading about the double glass and the sweet 35, my choice was this. I'd rather have the ability to change f/stops by the lens, instead of inserts; to me, the money is worth not having to carry around the f/stop inserts and mess with them.

Since this is an all manual lens, the meter within the camera says nothing about the exposure settings (which is fine)! If you want to be sure about what you're exposing, maybe takin a light meter with you works; of course since we're in the digital age, testing by shutter release is no big deal.

I will say that the amount of light in the viewfinder varies with each f/stop. Be prepared to take a few extra seconds to ensure sharpness in the right spot when it gets darker, no matter how bright it is outside.

I think the easiest way to keep from tightening and loosening the tilt lock is to keep it just tight enough so that you won't have to support its weight while focusing, but loose enough so that you can shift the sweet spot without taking your eye from the viewfinder.

All in all, it's a great little lens, but does take some practice. :)

I use this for dramatic focus effects out of the camera. This is a novelty lens, something to buy when you essentially have most of the lenses you want, or don't mind spending a few bucks to get a limited-purpose tool. It permits you to play with a dynamic sweet spot, thanks to the ability of the user to change the axis of the lens with respect to the film/sensor plane. It takes some getting used to in order to get satisfactory results. Do not expect that the dynamic axis is similar to tilt shift technology. It is not. No data are passed between lens and camera; all functions must be manual and aperture information will not be saved.

I am primarily an architectural and fine art photographer and this tool has been great to have at my disposal from time to time. Though it is a one trick pony, my clients have enjoyed seeing a few images with this selective focus lens in their galleries. Because it is so lightweight, I bring it everywhere and there is no sacrifice for weight or space in the bag.

I'm a portrait and event photographer, and the Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic gives me another tool in my bag to create unique and expressive photos. It does take a bit to get used to the focus, but when you nail it, it's phenomenal what you can do! (I have found that using an eyepiece magnifier helps me with the focus.)

Comments about Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic for Nikon F:

It is fairly straight forward to use and doesn't have a cheap plastic feel. If you are comfortable with manual focus, you will like this lens. However, It is difficult to get sharp focus on subjects more than 8ft away. I consider this a specialty lens, and when used moderately, it can be a nice touch. Same goes for a fisheye. This isn't something that will stay on your camera body all day.

I rate this product with 5 stars, that's if you know photography. I don't feel that it's a lens for someone that doesn't understand how to shoot manually.
There is a bit of a learning curve with this lens. You don't just take it out of the box and do neat stuff. It takes practice.

Comments about Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic for Nikon F:

The Lensbaby Composer Pro has become a new favorite in my camera bag. After seeing an example of tilt-shift photography, I had to be able to shoot my own and this product fills the bill. I purchased it together with the Sweet 35 Optic which allows you to change the aperature size on the lens, rather than having to change\ing one of the aperature rings that comes with the double glass optic.

Oh sure, you can go into a software editing programming and create this type of photography by altering your images, but I'm "old school", and when you combine the ability to switch out with some of the other creative lens elements, along with it solid construction, it makes for a powerful tool.

I had read in some previous reviews that the lens felt light, I didn't find this to be true, rather that it feels solid and the build qualitiy is outstanding. The only footnote is that changing out the elements is a bit tricky until you get the hang of it.

I heartily recommend this lens for all you "creative types" out there.

Comments about Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic for Nikon F:

played with the lens, looking for a new creative outlet. Utilized it on informal "practice" product shots that my friend immediately wanted to buy. Have also used it on a wedding shoot with some very nice and lovely effects however, I need to practice more with the lens; trying to maintain the "sweet spot" location after a shift may get difficult under faster paced shooting or low light situations. Possibly more of an operator issue rather than product but I'm still hashing that out. Does what it says it does; and largely performs the way I expected it perform. Really like the lens. Just need the practice....
