The Vitec Multimedia
FS-H200 Pro Portable Compact Flash DTE Recorder Pro-Pack, with a 2.5” (diagonal) color TFT display, DV embedded timecode support, and a removable Compact flash slot, records DTE (Direct to Edit Technology) videos directly to Compact Flash (CF) memory cards. By using Compact Flash (CF) memory cards for recording, the FS-H200 can be used in high-shock and altitude environments.
The FS-H200 Recorder allows you to view thumbnails and video clips. Thumbnails can also be viewed on a web browser over a network and MPEG-4 proxy files can be generated and transferred to host computer / video-sharing web site / portable media devices.
You can access the FS-H200 recorder with your wireless device or laptop through a browser. In addition, you can define metadata (data within data) and link it to live video, eliminating the need to tag the footage. In conjunction with 25Mb/s HDV cameras, the FS-H200 offers support for QuickTime (1080i50/60, 720p25/30) recording for Final Cut Pro use, MXF HDV support for Avid, and M2T 720p/1080i recording.
With support for video recording in NLE (Non-linear editing) compatible file format, the FS-H200 DTE recorder enables addition of custom metadata to live video. In addition, you can label metadata fields, add metadata tags to live video, and transfer edited clips to the NLE system or PX media server. This significantly reduces the time required for reviewing, logging, and tagging footage.
Featuring QuickTime HDV (high-definition video) and MXF HDV (high-definition video) support, the compact flash DTE recorder obtains a QuickTime HDV file by extracting the audio signal from the incoming HDV stream and merging with the video stream. The QuickTime HDV file can be imported to the Final Cut Pro directly, eliminating the need of capturing or conversion.
With a standard CF compatible memory card reader, you can remove Compact Flash memory from the recorder and insert it on your computer. This creates a free space for another CF card that can be inserted into the FS-H200 recorder to offer un-interrupted recording; the previous card can be used for editing/archiving at the same time. Additionally, the FS-H200 recorder can be mounted via USB 2.0 using HDD mode to access the CF card in the absence of a CF compatible memory card reader.
The FS-H200 Compact Flash DTE Recorder features USB 2.0, FireWire/iLINK port, and GPI/RS-232 ports to connect to your camera / remote control unit / wired network. In addition, the recorder comes with a CF card slot for insertion of Type 1 Compact Flash Cards (16GB minimum).

Comments about Vitec Multimedia FS-H200 Pro Portable Compact Flash DTE Recorder Pro-Pack:
I use this as a backup for tape recording, and to speed news material edition process.
It is great that it mounts on camera.
Not so cool that the files it produces don't work with Lion Os

Comments about Vitec Multimedia FS-H200 Pro Portable Compact Flash DTE Recorder Pro-Pack:
It hasn't given me any trouble. I called tech support at Focus and they told me to trigger the FS-H200 with my camera through the cam's menu settings. (Using tapes all these years, I forgot about that?) Needs to be set to "DV Control" on the cam and "External" on the FS-H200. I assume I can use the LANC on my cam, especially if I'm flying the cam on a jib. Manual says I could use the Focus' Web Server with a dongle and computer to go wireless too - maybe too fancy for now. But buy this from B&H, I did!

Comments about Vitec Multimedia FS-H200 Pro Portable Compact Flash DTE Recorder Pro-Pack:
My XLH1a video heads weren't recordg well & didn't want to spend $$$$ for a nano. Read many reviews/forums & found this will work with Canons and Adobe PPro CS4. The .m2t file is in the "FCP Example" folder which the manual doesn't state. Folder #10 is the proxies which I tweaked the settgs to not have anyway. You must read the manual with the addendum manual as reference -not hard to do. With this model you can't trigger the fsh200 with the camera's rec buttons whether in "sync" or "external" modes, maybe the FS-CF model you could. But it's not a problem for me. Overall, I like it. This kit comes with 2 batteries, all the cables, & the mount which I modified. Use fast CF cards if you want quicker results reviewing your clips.
