      If you're looking for a compact, solid yet lightweight tripod, this is it. I like to travel alot and take lots of photos of my adventures. I needed a tripod that was compact enough to fit in my motorcycle side bag and this was the one. Fits in with room to spare. I also preferred a tripod that extended to a decent height if needed. The over 5ft extention capability made this tripod the right choice. I wanted a lightweight tripod that I wouldn't get tired of carring around. Guess what? This is the one. Oh, and let's not forget the QR Ball Head included with this tripod, talk about icing on the cake. I did several photo shoots since this purchase and have used the tripod on all but one. The one shoot I didn't use it, I took it just because it was so light and compact (and of course because you never know) without it taking up much space. The price is right and of course with the backing of Manfrotto, do you really expect anything less?

      I purchased this tripod as an alternative to my trusty, crusty, dusty, pair that have served me well over the last several years. They were sturdy enough for the new purpose, but the play in the cork Quick Release mechanism on both older tripods forced me to purchase this one.

      This tripod mount is matched to a device that I'm using on a new mounting system for panorama shots. It is now snug enough to rotate completely without causing any leveling problems when stitching the final image with the first image in each series.
      * * * * *
      The tripod is heavier than either of my other tripods, but it is easier to carry and transport.
      It does not have as heavy a payload limit - 8 pounds vs. 15 pounds (older pair).
      How can it be lightweight AND heavy. . .?
      Easy.
      It is a good sturdy "lightweight" portable and field-use tripod that serves its purpose within its limitations.
      It is also "heavy" because neither of my video tripods weights as much.
      * * * * *
      This tripod does not have any leveling bubbles - however, the new panorama device I use with it does. . . I guess I'll have to purchase some magnetic do-dad for my non-panorama efforts...
      (sigh)
      * * * * *
      I'm not fond of the high pricing campared to the lack of amenities; the payload isn't quite what I desired; no leveling bubbles forces me to purchase yet another accessory ...
      however,
      the purchase of this tripod DID solve much of my panorama leveling trouble. . .
      I guess that's something. . . (wink)
      * * *
      This tripod comes with a plastic nut wrench snapped on one of the legs. It fits the quick release leg adjusters. I imagine it is meant to tighten and snug the countersunk quick release bolts when they loosen through use. Very nice touch. . . but not difficult to knock off and lose out in the field (I'll have to pack it).
      * * *
      I would not recommend this tripod to anyone
      AND
      definitely would recommend s/he determine exactly what s/he desires in a tripod and look for some less expensive alternatives - they ARE out there...

      (grin)
      * * * * *
      I purchased this tripod myself.
      IF it WAS a gift, perhaps I would not have considered this purchase such a poor tradeoff.

        Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

        This is a much nicer tripod up grade for me. The weight, feel, and construction are of nice quality. This is my first ball head tripod and I can say the as of now wow why did I wait so long to get a ball head. The tripod solid and hold my camera and Photek TRI-X-2500 Tripod Extender with ease. I really like the compact size and it fits nicely on my backpack for my day hikes. If you looking for a compact tripod with nice hight capabilities this is the tripod for you.

            Solid and a decent ball head. A plus is a provided "key" to adjust tension on the leg clips if they become too loose or tight.

            Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

            I bought the 190 before I bought this. The 190 was to heavy for me and too long to bring along everywhere, so I returned it. When I got this one, I feel so happy. it's not too long and heavy for traveling, it suits my needs except the height that is shorter than my height, I'm 5.3. So that's why I give only 4 stars. The idea that it came with the ball head made this even better and got special holiday price too.

                This is a fantastic tripod / head package for the money. It's lightweight, high quality, and very functional. I am an amateur photographer that does outdoor scenery, and indoor portrait shots. It holds up well to my Canon 7D with extended battery and 16-35 F/2.8L lens (which altogether is quite heavy). I attach the tripod to my Hazard 4 Photo Recon bag, and its perfect on the go.. based on the image.........

                  Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

                  Have used many tripods in my years of experience, I now own 3 as I have one for every occasion, this one I use more often then any of them due to it's versatility. I take a lot of weddings and scenic photo's and this is light enough to take while going on small hikes or taking out to the field to grab them special scenic shots. Everything about this tripod is slick and solid and can hold an SLR with 75-300mm with no problem at all. The ball head works very smoothly and tightens into place with the upmost of ease. The legs are quick extend and require no pulling, they also lock into place extremely solid and should the clamps ever become a little loose, one of the legs have a "special key" clamped to it that will tighten the lever lock's. Quality & craftsmanship are the very best!

                  Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

                  I like this product very much. However, I noticed that the lock for the camera likes to stop working and becomes loose at times. My favorite thing about this product is the ball head. It can tilt your camera sideways to up-right. Which is amazing because I like to take sideways photography.

                    I just started my hobby as a photographer/videographer and i gotta say that this is probably the best tripod that i could find for a good price and for a newbie. Its sturdy and its actually not very heavy at all. The only thing that i wish was different was the ball head, i would rather get one that has the panning head but i still give it a 5 stars! You really cant go wrong with it!

                        I purchased this tripod especially for travel. I want a sturdy but relatively light tripod for use in photographing outdoor subjects like wildlife and natural scenes. I have also used it at home with a light box to photograph small art objects.

                            Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

                            This is by far the nicest tripod I've owned. It is small and light enough to make it ideal for traveling, but extends to a decent height for use. The only slight problem I've had with it was with the quick-release. After a few days of use a screw started to come loose and made the camera wobbaly and would have allowed the camera to fall had I not tightened it. On the bright side, with a few turns from an alan wrench I was good to go.

                                I will be using this tripod for studio and outdoor photography. Good quality, feels very solid. A little
                                heavy to carry, but the stability outways this negative.

                                    I added an Arca-Swiss adapter and this is now an excellent tripod for my NEX-7. I wanted something much smaller/lighter than my old Bogen 3021 and this fits the bill perfectly.

                                      Comments about Manfrotto 293 Tripod with 494RC2 Quick Release Mini Ball Head:

                                      I purchased this tripod mainly for multiuse but primarily for hiking and backpacking. My original tripod was just too big, heavy and bulky with too many knobs.
                                      The Manfrotto 4 section allows me to get good low to the ground shots, is fairly lightweight and made to last. The 494RC2 Ball Head is great as it has one knob to manage the entire head. Good price thru B&H as well.

                                        I absolutely love this tripod. It works beautifully and is very sturdy! Exactly what I would expet from Manfrotto!
