The Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent 2 Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps) is a great choice for the photographer or videographer seeking a broad, flattering light source with unique fall-off characteristics for portraiture, fashion or events.

Octagonal-shaped light sources have long had a reputation as the preferred portrait-shooter's light source. The shape offers an especially large surface area which produces that legendary "wrap-around" light, which envelopes the subject while creating natural-looking catchlights in the eyes.

The kit is comprised of 2 separate 6-lamp Octacool light heads, each with a removable Octabox, and a light stand. Each of the provided daylight-balanced 27 - 32W (depending on supply) lamps outputs 1,400 lumens of light for a total of 8,400 lumens measured at 3.3 feet. Three switches on the rear of the fixture control 2 lamps each allowing you to vary the output in 2,800 lumen increments. The head's standard 5/8" receiver mounts to a huge variety of light stands and gripware with 5/8" studs.

The included Octaboxes have removable inner baffles and front faces allowing even greater flexibility from hard to ultra-soft light. The light heads also each come with a removable aluminum reflector for a bright, contrasty lighting option. Two sturdy 9.5' (2.9 m) air-cushioned light stands round out the kit.

They work but I had a slight scare with one of the Octacool light sockets . It stopped working but luckily I had a electrician with me that was able to figure out what was wrong with it . I have a feeling there will be more issues with the lights since I travel more often with them . These are really meant to stay stationary. Just be careful with the lights if you are transporting them from location to location . THe tension rods are also a little bothersome because they look like they won't last long .

Comments about Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent 2 Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps):

I use these lights for indoor portraits and the lighting is adequate if used with an external flash. The stands are very sturdy as is the reflectors. I like that I can shut off certain groups of lighting to control the brightness. For my usage, I usually keep them 2-5' feet from the subject and have enough lighting, there are certain situations that require my external flash but am happy as they compliment the setup.

Comments about Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent 2 Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps):

These are my first softboxes and I'm really happy with them. They are large! They can be a bit of a challenge to assemble - the first one had me cursing and about to give up, but eventually it came together. The second one was much easier. The stands are sturdy enough to hold the heads, yet light enough to transport. We brought them (assembled - the heads are too much of a PIA to take apart once they're set up) to our last video shoot and they filled out the room well with a soft, even light. These are especially flattering for a person's face. I love that they stay cool! NOTE that florescent light is not terribly attractive in real life. The lights will appear cold and bluish on the subject. However, set your white balance properly and they look FABULOUS in camera. I'm thrilled to have these and I recommend them highly as an above-average starter kit.

Comments about Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent 2 Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps):

I bought these units to do cideo inside offices for our company and clients. The lights are plenty plenty bright and much bigger than i expected from the picture. Te switches on the back are very noce in that you can turn on only one pair of lights at a time, giving you a lot of flexibility without the need to dim. The color looks great with the enclosed bulbs, important since we shoot inside and without makeup.

The stands are pretty sturdy, though plastic knobs and connectors, so handle carefully. They have air piston inserts which is nice. Not sure id use them much over 7 feet and not that much outside. Not sure the bases could handle sandbags of any big size.

Comes with both a fabric shade and a metal reflector. The diffusers work well. Everything is very cool, not hot, and there is very verynlittle noise.

I wish the kit came with a small back light.
