This server is also backwards compatible with SATA I hard disk drives of the same form factors. With your drives installed, you have the option to format them in a RAID 0 or 1 configuration, or as a JBOD. So as to ensure smooth video streaming, snappy system responses, and wicked fast file transfers, the server utilizes a Cavium Dual-Core Processor and 256MB of DDR2 memory.

Beyond hardware highlights, you can use the server in a number of different ways, such as an iTunes server, photo web server, media server, printer server, download manager, or a simple surveillance server (by connecting a USB webcam). Alternatively, you can also configure the server to be a Direct Attached Storage device. In addition, you can backup your files with the included software options: Thecus' Backup Utility, Nsync, and Acronis OEM Backup. Plus, the N2200PLUS supports Mac Time Machine so you can backup your entire Mac hard drive easily. For connecting to your network, the server features one Gigabit Ethernet WAN/LAN1 port and one Gigabit Ethernet LAN2 port.

As a nice added touch, the server comes with one USB 2.0 port on the front so you can instantly copy contents from a USB drive. It also features one USB 2.0 port on the back for connecting peripherals such as IP cams, printers, and external drives, for example. Compatible with Windows, Mac, UNIX, and Linux systems, the N2200PLUS Home NAS Server is a stellar buy for easily establishing and running a network in your home or small office.

Comments about Thecus N2200PLUS Home NAS Server:

I purchased this unit on November 3rd. Configuration was simple yet I found out the hard way that both drives needed to be installed prior to configuring RAID1. You can not add a second drive after the fact (Problem 1). After I configured the unit, I put some files on it and discovered that there was a firmware upgrade that allows for the second core of the processor to be used. I upgraded the firmware and lost my data (Problem 2). I then put some more files on it and tried loading some modules. By mistake I loaded a module that was not for this unit (Thecus Dashboard), guess what - I lost my files again (Problem 3). For some stupid reason, I decided to keep the unit and just not mess with it. I put all of my files on it (but since I did not trust it, I kept them on another drive). 1.5 months later, the unit was not accessable. The unit reported that I had no RAID configured. I lost my files again (Problem 4). I guess I forgot to tell you that I had opened a ticket with them after the first loss but they could not help me since I already re-created the RAID (understandable). After the last loss of files, I re-opened the ticket and they have been working on it for 3 days and told me they will try to repair the filesystem but I may lose all of my files (Problem 5). There is no way to access the Linux OS on it (except for a 3rd party module that can not be loaded if you don't have a RAID configured) (Problem 6). In the end my files were not recoverable. As an IT professional, I am very disappointed in this unit and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a NAS. Now I will continue my search for a good NAS that isn't priced outrageously,
