After being in love with my Holga 120 and shooting film with it for a while AND being in love with my Nikon DSLR, I am SUPER stoked about the Holga lens for my Nikon. It is amazingly simple to put on, just like changing your lens. You get the softly out of focus, vignetted effect, and slight over-saturation of colors that we Lomographers have come to love.I'm most excited that I get to see immediate results when I use my slew of filters rather then waiting until I develop and scan the negatives, only to forget what I did.The only negative, is that even in broad daylight and with a flash, it's still rather dark. The aperture is TINY and fixed. So even outdoors, I have to use a 125 or 60 shutter speed WITH my flash to get a shot. I'm considering enlarging the hole, but don't want to damage the lens...BEST [$] spent!

I'm not going to go on about the darkness in the finder as that should be expected by anyone who understands how SLR viewfinders works. Also, if people would do their research into Holgas they would know that ISO 400 film is the slowest that should really be used for a Holga. That being said, the real problem I had was the way the lens aperture opening is designed on this lens. It has one hole with nine smaller holes around it. This cause a flower liked vignette pattern that did not look very Holga-like and was downright hideous when shooting bright scenes. To get the traditional Holga look I had to modify the aperture by gently reaming it out with a succession of small drill bits, until the aperture was a single hole. This helped to get a more Holga-esque look. If your camera shoots in a crop mode such as 5:4, I'd suggest using that as it will get you closer to the Holga square format ratio. I use this setting on my D800. I find the lens a little long on DX cameras (90mm equiv.), but it's near normal length on an FX camera so I'd recommend going that direction with this lens if possible. Shooting with a DX camera also nearly crops out most vignetting, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preferences. For [$], I didn't expect much, but they could have designed the aperture correctly from the get-go. I suspect they did it to help with the vignette, but real Holga lenses aren't designed this way. It's a fun little lens that adds some character to your shots without post-processing and it's cheap. It's worth buying if you have a spare [$]lying around, but don't expect an exact Holga replica.

Comments about Holga Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera:

This is a great way to get the Holga look with a DSLR. I have been wanting to reproduce the look of pinhole cameras without having to use darkroom chemicals, and this lets me do that. It's plastic but seems to be well made. The focusing is a little vague, (manually dial in a mountain, a face, etc.) but if it's a bit out of focus it just adds to the Holga experience, in my opinion.I also bought the Holga .5X wide angle adapter, which lets me get a bit more in the frame.

Comments about Holga Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera:

Great fun, easy way to get a Holga looking image, without having to go to the expense of getting film processed and scanned. It's construction is very lightweight and flimsy, but then again, so are the old Holga cameras anyway. Fun, however I'd recommend shooting everything with a normal glass lens and creating a Photoshop action to mimic the effect, applying it to "straight" images that may benefit from a Holga look in post-production. It might be worthwhile using the Holga lens on spare DSLR body, while using your normal lens on your preferred DSLR body.

Comments about Holga Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera:

I purchased this lens as an experiment with surreal photography. At first, it is a bit difficult to work with: No metering or aperture control, no auto focus, and focal vignetting. However, with a bit of experimentation, this lens will produce excellent results. The vignette and focal vignetting will give a soft, dreamy look to your photography.

I have a few holgas and an instant back; love them for what they are. This thing does not even come close to mimicking the output on a full frame SLR. Its just a really bad lens and who needs that? I bet the pinhole is better.

Good deal for $. Small and light, easy to use. Focusing is hit or miss, particularly on close-ups. Relatively sharp shooting downlight. Very little vignetting on DX. Have not tried Holga macro/wide adapters but they may be worthwhile.

in a world where you want sharp crisp high quality photos, this probably doesn't seem like the best lens, and it isn't, it is what it is, it if purely a lens you get to have fun, and for the price i would say get it. its a toy lens that you can use on your digital camera, or if you still take 35mm. but if you want that Holga look on your digital photos get this lens, it is awesome, only got it 4 days ago and have not taken it off my camera. in the urban setting i live in it adds a grungy look to the photos i take. what normally would be a con on most lens are in this case, pros. cause thats what you get this lens for. good by instagram.

This is a fun toy for my Nikon7000, and you need to see it as that - a toy.
With it I can easily do photos that remind of the childhood day polaroids.
Takes a bit of getting used to to get any kind of focus, but got some fun pictures, with total retro vignetting.

I haven't had a terrible amount of time to play with this lense but, at first use I found it difficult to mount on the body and quite difficult to get the proper exposure. The more I play with it the easier it gets and you start to figure out it's quirks. All in all it's [$]so you have an idea of what you are getting. It's cool for artsy shots if you have patiences but not ideal for causal shooting. Give it a try!!!

Comments about Holga Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera:

Keep in mind this is a lens off a kids camera when purchasing. It creates a great retro look and is fun to use! My recommendation for using this lens is, use in full sunlight with a high ISO, in manual mode. It's very difficult to focus, but that's part of the fun.

camera has to be in manual mode to use. but comes with instructions so it will tell you that. pretty simple just like a true holga camera. love that i don't have to change film every 12 frames!!!

Makes great photos, you get the full Holga effect. Expect my camera often says that the lens is not attached to the camera, when it clearly is.

As a self confessed Holga addict I was happy to find this lens and order it. I've been using in on my D90 and D7000. Yes it's dark and you need a lot of light but it sure is a fun lens to use. Love the light leak effect. Holga quality pictures from a Holga lens that look oh so cool!

I love this lens! I use it when I want to put a little vintage look on my pictures. It does exactly what I hoped it would do. It's a good alternative to an actual Holga camera if you don't want the hassle of film. The only downside is that it requires lots of light, but I don't use it indoors anyway.

U do need alot of light to use the lens. Indoors i set my d40's flash to manual and it works. Its alot of fun, cant wait for spring time. Its not the best lens but it is the funnest.
