Product Highlights
  • Waterproof Down to 130'
  • Polycarbonate Construction
  • O-Ring & Silicone Grease for Seal
  • Flash Diffuser
  • Includes Neck Strap & Wrist Strap

The Canon WP-DC42 Waterproof Case for PowerShot SX230 HS Camera allows you to take your camera as deep as 130' underwater. Document your tropical vacation's scuba expedition, explore the coral reefs – or just capture your kids' antics beneath the surface in the backyard pool.

The polycarbonate WP-DC42 case is specifically designed to house the PowerShot SX230 HS, and it includes a neck strap and a wrist strap so you don't lose the camera to the bottomless depths. The diffuser softens the built-in flash of the SX230 HS to reduce the presence of illuminated tiny particles ("back scatter") within your underwater shots.

An O-ring is installed and silicone grease is included to ensure a proper seal. The housing is rated IPX8 ("ingress protection"), meaning that it can be immersed completely in water. It's also rated IP6X to ensure that no sand or dust will breach the casing, either.

Unlike a previous reviewer's comments, I have discovered that there is, indeed, full manual control of the camera while it is in the housing. Although the housing does not have a corresponding "Control Dial" wheel, aperture and shutter speed can be adjusted when in M, Tv, or Av mode by pressing and holding the DISP button and then moving the zoom lever either way. This information is contained on page 10 of the manual which shipped with the Canon WP-DC42 housing. I have not yet used the housing underwater but have been very satisfied with my housing for my older Canon SD550 camera and look forward to using this new camera with all its wonderful manual features on an upcoming dive trip.

The housing looks great however, you can NOT use all camera functions. You can use the wheel which is essential to use the manual function of the camera and change the aperture and shutter speed settings. I called canon because I couldn't believe they would commit such a flaw, and they didn't know anything about how to use the housing... It's a shame because it's a great camera but we're stuck to Ikelite with their even bulkier housing at a 400 dollar price! Shame on canon!!!

Comments about Canon WP-DC42 Waterproof Case for PowerShot SX230 HS Camera:

I would rate the product higher, but the price is too high for what you receive.

Overall it did what it was supposed to do and allowed me to take pictures underwater. I used it up to 100 feet without any problems (as far as leakage).

I experienced several problems trying to switch to video mode as I hadn't practiced enough and it is difficult to make adjustments with the different buttons on the case. Next time I will set it up before I go down.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase (although in hindsight I wish I would have just put the money toward a new camera like a goPro).

Comments about Canon WP-DC42 Waterproof Case for PowerShot SX230 HS Camera:

I am very pleased with this product. Obviously, these waterproof cases are very specialized. The matching camera, the PowerShot SX230, does a great job.
You're looking at about half a grand for the set, which can give you reasonably good pictures.

Using it in the pool during the day gave EXCELLENT pictures when there is a lot of light.

I also used it scuba diving. It comes with a diffusion plate, which enables use of the camera's internal flash, but it still does not do too well under low light. I ended up taking some great photos by lighting certain pictures with a light cannon (an underwater flashlight).

I am very pleased with the set. My opinion is the next step up, you're looking at an SLR and a much more expensive case, at least a few grand.

So this is great for an amateur scuba diver.

Only used once so far on a night dive. Easy to enclose camera and it stayed dry. No problems with buttons. Don't forget to make the additional purchase of weights if using for diving as I was unable to find weights in a store, even in a large city like Bangkok. Case was still usable though. Overall a worthwhile purchase and a great way to document my first divng experience!

This has been a great combo for my camera and has kept the pictures camera dry from 100ft depths. I highly suggest you get this and the Powershot SX230 - great camera and easy to use - even under water. Whether you are going to 100ft or just playing in the kiddy pool - this is a great case for taking your camera where you want to go. Which - lets not kid anyone - is anywhere on the planet.

Comments about Canon WP-DC42 Waterproof Case for PowerShot SX230 HS Camera:

I bought this case to take to Hawaii, and it was much better quality than I expected. I took great video and photos snorkeling and scuba diving down to 85 ft. I also took it on a "commando" hike that required swimming across a pool and clambering up waterfalls. I would not have been able to take my camera on the hike without the waterproof case. The case has buttons that allow you to use and change all of your camera's functions, so you can go from underwater to above water and change settings without removing the camera from the case. I am taking the camera and case on a trip to the Galapagos, and I am excited to use it diving and while traveling by boat. The case protects the camera from rain and getting splashed, as well as being waterproof to 130' underwater. On the downside, it does make the camera bulkier and takes up space in a suitcase, but it is worth it for the added protection and ability to use in water. Also, it is kind of a pain to remove and reattach the camera wrist strap every time you use the case, since the strap attachment opening on the camera body is so small.[...] Everyone I encountered while using my case wanted to know how to get one! I highly recommend it.
