The Digital Juice Orbit Dolly is an efficient camera tracking device that allows you to achieve 360° radial as well as straight line dolly motion for a camera weighing up to 300 lb (136kg).

You can use the dolly with or without a tripod in tabletop, normal, or wide mode thus achieving wide flexibility. Rotation around a subject while keeping the camera focused on the subject is possible, thus eliminating the need for special straight and curved tracks for dolly movement.

Integrated into the dolly are 3" (76mm) polyurethane casters that ensure smooth mobility under maximum load conditions. You can easily adjust the dolly legs to facilitate transportation. Constructed from a 0.5" aluminum plate, the Orbit Dolly is lightweight (22 lb / 9.9kg) and durable.

A matte black powder coating on the body of the dolly protects it from environmental conditions and also prevents unwanted reflections.

      Triangular dolly more versatile

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

A triangular dolly proves more versatile than square. The camera is closer to me, the operator, when it's on rails (simple physics of equilateral triangle). I insert freely rotating inclined skate wheels for use on curved track (wish they'd offer those wheels, had to custom-make) and use this in "tabletop" mode for close-to-ground shots, and in full spread for higher up work. The plate is SOLID! Only gripes: wish the distance between center plate holes was an exact 14 inches, instead of 14.0625 (!) Made calculating curved track radii challenging! But at least it's truly equilateral. The accessories are great. Wish they'd offered the free-spinning track wheel set.

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

I originally discovered this on the manufacturers site and was pleasantly surprised to see it here for less. It's a dolly that has great versatility for the price and it's got a stout and sturdy design. It collapses for transport but it's weighty. However tho, being able to break the middle section down for a smaller tighter radius dolly is pretty ingenious. The web app interface for calculating the shot radius set up is clunky and to date I haven't seen the app they're talking about releasing yet but I hope to see it come soon. The ability to use this rotation lock wheeling coupled with our Manfrotto fluid head makes for some dynamic shooting in the field.

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

Now that I have it, I use the Orbit Dolly for a range of productions - from real estate through to music and corporate videos to short films.

It adds accurate, repeatable moves that a steadycam can't so is a great add to my gear. It's also great for being able to repeat the same shot, both for additional takes and for when you need to do some later VFX compositing (both with the same items in shot or after making changes to the scene).

The pnuematic wheels (which I also bought on B&H) are a great addition too, and work just as promised - carpet, concrete, tiles, ashphalt, etc.

I read some reviews beforehand that said the wheels slip, no matter how much you lock them down. I haven't found the wheels to slip from their position, but when you redo shots the way the wheels move on the ground means you may not have the exact same arc over multiple takes. This would be an issue with any dolly.

The ability to add the dolly to PVC and bendable tracks is also useful, but to-date I've found the wheels do the job I need. It's also way better built and stronger than I imagined before I bought it, that applies to the pneumatic wheels too.

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

The DJ Orbit Dolly is a must have item in your shooters toolbox! It is very well made, much beefier than I thought it would have been. The indexed wheels make for an easy arc set as well as locking them down for a straight trucking shot.

The only change I would recommend is the ability to 'free-wheel' the casters so you don't have to tow or push it with the T-handle.

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

I've used this on two shoots since I bought it. I have the FlexTrac system as well and have used the dolly both on and off the FlexTrac.

              What I like.
              Portablility - It's very portable.
Easy set-up - It's easy and fast to set up.

              What I wish it had.
Seat to sit on - It's hard to pan the tripod head while you're walking. I had someone pulling the dolly which helps, but it would make for smoother moves if I could focus on panning instead of walking and panning.

              Dislikes
Drift - Which is normal for this kind of dolly.

Comments about Digital Juice Orbit Dolly:

This is a hard one to review. When the Orbit Dolly works, it works pretty well. It does seriously drift, as these trackless dollies are known to do. I think the price is the main issue. It's far too expensive for what you get. Drifting aside, the wheel positions slip regardless of how tight I have them. Also, the dials are peeling up after one trip to a job. For the price, I would assume the build was much better. If this was about $1k less, I'd recommend...
