The Green Pod from The Pod is a bean bag that serves as a camera platform for DSLRs with zoom lenses up to 200mm long. The Green Pod is constructed of sturdy nylon and filled with plastic pellets, which can be removed and added in order to customize the Pod based on your specific camera/lens and the requirements of a particular shot. The stable camera platform is ideal for shooting outdoors from unpredictable surfaces.
The Green Pod features a 1/4"-20 screw at the edge, enabling you to mount a camera with a zoom lens. An included adjustable strap can be threaded through the pod's loops in order to secure the camera's lens to the bean bag. The 0.75 lb bag is small and light enough to travel with your everyday gear, ready for any opportunity to support your camera.
The Green Pod is sealed with a strong hook & loop fastener that can be opened and closed as many times as needed. You can change out the plastic pellets for any other stuffing. With a green vinyl bottom and water-resistant nylon shell, the Green Pod is suitable for use in rainy conditions.

I used the green pod several times so far, mainly for low angle photography.
For example I used it when I was taking splash shots of coffee cups on the ground and I a) did not want to put my camera on the dirty ground and b) I wanted it to be a little higher than if I had put it on the ground directly.
I also used it several times to take self portraits at the beach and at other locations because it allows me to take said low angle shots that I really like and that my regular tripod does not allow me to take, even with the middle column taken out and to the side.
The camera can be easily screwed onto the pod, however, it does take a little training until you know how to do it quickly! I aways grab the pod at both sides, which creates this little bump to the top, making it easy to screw it it. Then you just clip the things together around the lens and you are set to go!
I love it because it is so lightweight and easy to carry around and also because you can get really low to the ground with it :)

I usually take an empty nylon bag with me when I travel and pick up a bag of dry beans to stuff it with and that works fine. This is a bit better because you can attach it to your camera/lens base and it stabilizes them when you're shooting out the car window. It also holds them upright just sitting on the car seat.

Okay, this is one of those things that you may rarely use, but get one and put it in your bag.
I can put my camera safely on the ground for macro or low perspective shots without worry.
I dont know how many times I have been traveling and wanted a safe steady way to support my camera on a rock, a fence post etc, and either did not have my tripod or it was too cumbersome and this would work great.
The way it mounts, it even supports your lens.

Comments about The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform:
I needed a way to stabilize my Nikon D300 in NYC when I was shhoting the Christmas lights. Trying to use a tripod with the crowded sidewalks was not practical, so I used this pod with very good success. My stock agency accepted several of my images that i shot with it. The trick is to find a friendly mailbox, bench, or fence to rest the pod on. Although it has a tripod mount, i didn't use it rather just put pressure on the camera as I was taking the shot. I think this would provide sharp shots of 1-2 seconds with a bit of practice.

This is very handy - I travel to remote locations; and didn't bring my tripod - not as good as a tripod; but I keep it on and it's fine for some shots. And the price is right.

This tool very good for those situations in which a tripod is not convenient or won't work, it is light, easy to carry and comes in handy in the most unusual places.

Comments about The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform:
I used this with a Canon 5DII and a 24-105 in Italy. It helped me get great shots in places where tripods are not allowed, particularly churches and cathedrals. I agree with other reviewers who suggest using a cable release or timer. My only minor complaint is that the plastic fastener on the loop securing the lens can be a bit difficult to release.

Comments about The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform:
You can do great low video shoots, or McGyver a tripod support out of a fence or tree limb. It conforms to where you want it to be. You do have to fiddle a bit to get it stable so only 4 stars. Perhaps I'll try adding more fill/pellets to see if that will help.
It does what I need it to do, though I also find the base screw a little frustrating to secure down my camera.

IIIIIIIIIIIII,,,,,,like it. This device is actually pretty cool. I used it for a photo shoot of classic cars. Stunning results. Captured the front end of cars from the bottom up so that the enire frame consisted of just the front end. Excellent.....

I used this beanbag to take long exposures (around 8 seconds) from the observation tower of the Rockerfeller building in NYC at night (you're not allowed to take a tripod up). It was great for my Nikon D80 with 18-200mm zoom and although it is not as stable as a tripod, the results are perfectly usable. You'll need to use a remote release or the self-timer to release the shutter and even better if you have a mirror lock-up feature.

Would have given this 5 stars, but the tripod screw didn't left my GH1 misaligned... A twist-tie around the bottom of the screw remedied the situation, but would rather not have to make this adjustment.
Certainly adds a lot of stability.

Comments about The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform:
The Green Pod is a fantastic tool for those situations in which a tripod won't work but you don't want to balance your camera in an unsafe location. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to get a self-portrait on the trail but the only place to set up the camera was on a rock - this solves that problem! Easy to use and lightweight, so you'll barely notice it in your backpack. My only complaint is the shape - it might be better designed to contour to the bottom of a camera, rather than its current design, in which the back of the camera hangs off the edge a bit. Overall, great inexpensive purchase to throw in my bag for hikes, travel and landscape shoots!

Comments about The Pod The Green Pod Camera Platform:
I have used the pod as a protective device. It can protect a longer lens by being a support/cover on a railing..etc to lay on. The loops on the pod used for the strap can be useful with other bindings. I'm finding that it would be nicer to have the threaded screw longer making it easier for attachment.

I used the Green Pod with a Canon 50D and their 18-200mm zoom lens. The Green Pod is the prefect size for this camera lens combination. It is well made and easily attaches to the camera. It allows easy stabilization of the camera on nearly all surfaces, especially uneven ones. I used the device when standing up through the sunroof of a 4x4 and while shooting through an open window. I would especially recommend the Pod for safari shooting.
