Light on the pocketbook and fun for the whole family, the Veho VMS-004D 400x USB Microscope provides a closer look at the world around you with either 20x or 400x magnification. In addition to magnifying specimens, the VMS-004D has a built-in 2Mp camera that takes video and still images of your subjects for an even closer look on your computer monitor. The microscope can be removed from the included stand and used handheld, as well, for hard to reach places.

I love this thing. It's a great simple magnification device. For the price, I don't think you could get any better. The magnification is great, as well as the photo and video quality. I took close up video of some pond creatures, really cool. The still shots are also pretty crisp for the relativly low megapixel count. It's very simple to use and very compact. Not to mention it's nicely made. It feels like it cost a lot more. My only complaint is the software, it's very dated looking, and it has failed on me before, corrupting images or not recognising the device.

My company bought a bunch of these that go to 200x and I loved it so I bought this one that goes to 400x. Well, my eyes were bigger than my belly on this. The 400x is much more than I need or will ever use. I does work great though. One of the cool things about it is the clear plastic tube on the end makes it look like a tunnel when you look at something more than a few inches away. It's very easy to install and the light is very powerful. All in all a very good Microscope.

My company bought a bunch of these that go to 200x and I loved it so I bought this one that goes to 400x. Well, my eyes were bigger than my belly on this. The 400x is much more than I need or will ever use. I does work great though. One of the cool things about it is the clear plastic tube on the end makes it look like a tunnel when you look at something more than a few inches away. It's very easy to install and the light is very powerful. All in all a very good Microscope.

I use this microscope in an industrial setting. It performs so good and yet costs so little. It capture pictures/ videos and allows for post picture taking measurements with its measurement menu. Would recommend to everyone. We now have several at my work site that everyone enjoys using.

Very good for inspection of small mechanical parts a rifle casings for damage before reloading. Adjusting takes a little to get used to but not a big draw back. Just plain fun to use. Calibration dial is out of sync but again not hard to overcome.

I purchased this product for taking medicinal plant photos and it works great for said application. I've found myself looking at almost everything in the house.
The ease of use and magnification are great.
I've not mastered the positioning and focus of viewed items and the unit itself, but the photos I've taken are great and will continue to get better.
4*/5*:I was going to order a cheapy from company X, but figured I would get what I paid for. I would prefer a more solid/quality construction, but I take care of my things and am confident this will last as long as I have use for it.

This microscope has quite bad quality. It can zoom in pretty far, but the camera itself is just so bad nothing is worth looking at. You're better off buying a physical microscope and taking pictures through the eyehole with your smartphone. Seriously. You will get much better results that way. Plus, it wouldn't be nearly as annoying dealing with a cord, all this software and drivers, and the general annoyances of it being a usb device.

Love this camera - bought two to replace two $500cameras of similar appearance. Using the cameras for for calibrated biological measurements from two directions with custom software. The drivers installed without a hitch, and the image quality is fine. The megapixels are inflated, given the limited quality of the optics, but that's the megapixel war for you )

This microscope works great - very clear images. Easy to use... sort of.
There is pretty much no user manual besides a basic setup (insert CD, click install type) But nothing on how to USE the microscope - fine tuning, zooming and focus adjustments, etc. With lots of tinkering you can make headway.
and the software is weak - about half the functions don't work, or don't work right. Can't always tell if the changes you make are even applied.
Microscope = GREAT. Software/Support = sub-par.

I had no issue in installing the driver and software.
I am using a notebook running on Win XP.
I could not figure out immediately how to get the highest magnification but then it worked out well with some trial and errors. It would be nice to have a little bit more information on this. Very good for school projects or if you are interested in taking pictures or videos. Quality is very acceptable considering the price of the unit.

We use this microscope to check surface mount components and solder joints. Works really good. Wish the stand was a little more solid. Also no focus adjustment, must be done manually by moving microscope up and down (which is hard due to stand).

The microscope is used inside of a CNC machining center in a dirty environment. It is well built and sturdy with a protective lens cover. Magnifacation is less than one that cost three times as much and failed but better resolution more than makes up for it. Software is far superior to the old one as well. An excellent value for the price.
