Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

Basic, but gets the job done
Well constructed, but the filter ring is a little thick. If you have vignetting issues with your lens already, this may be too thick to be of real use.

Comments about Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter:
An average quality CP filter but it gets the job done for occasional use. Also, it is dark enough that it serves as an ND filter allowing me to stay in the sweet spot of my Micro Four Thirds lenses. It's a little thick, so be careful with wide lenses. I'm seeing just a hint of (extra) vignetting on my Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 pancake lens.

Comments about Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter:
The 5mm thickness specification must be for the glass. It adds about 0.25 in to the end of your camera. Also, plan on getting a case or holder for the filter. There is no pouch or disk case. It comes in an oversized, rectangular plastic case.
As a polarizer, it is fine. The spin action is good and you can move it with a modest push by a single finger.

Comments about Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter:
I use this on a Pansonic Lumix GF1. It was inexpensive and works just like it expected it would. Polarizers make such a difference in color saturation and reducing contrast when outside. I always have it on the lens unless I am indoors. It seems that the rings are a bit thick, but it hasn't been a problem for me as I only have a 20mm (40mm in full frame equivalent) lens for the camera. If I had a superwide lens, it might be a problem. Some other reviewers noted it is not multicoated, but I haven't had a problem with that aspect yet. A good piece of equipment for the price.

Using this on a Panasonic Lumix Z35 (walkaround camera) and it does the job as it should. Pretty hard to mess-up a Circular Polarizer (CP) I'd think. :-) This CP attaches smoothly and does a nice job of removing glare and reflections (ex: getting detail back on wet rocks by removing the glare - handy at waterfalls).

As I bought two cameras with 46mm thread filter and one tiffen kit, I had to buy one more tiffen circular polarizer for landscapes (to get deep blue sky). Very good result.

Comments about Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter:
Regardless of which size camera I use, the circular polariser is essential.
Working alot around water and sun, and given the drawbacks of digital in these environments, the circular polariser allows me the opportunity to create the image I want in the camera, with minimal time in post production.
This 46mm filter is for my run-around camera and is of acceptable quality for this device.

Use for landscape shots to emphasize clouds and sky and to improve color.
Perfect fit and can be used with retracting lens in the new advanced point and shoot cameras without having to remove.
