Comments about Vanguard Auctus 283AT Aluminum Tripod (Legs Only):

This is a rock solid tripod. It is versatile and easy to use. I got this for both inside and outside work. I also own the plus version of this tripod and I use that for my studio work. I got this for everything else. I plan to take it out for nature/landscape photography.

Comments about Vanguard Auctus 283AT Aluminum Tripod (Legs Only):

I have been using the Vanguard Auctus 283AT tripod for 8 months, mainly for outdoor portrait sessions. This tripod is a tank and can take the wear and tear of heavy use and not so friendly conditions. I love the large all-terrain web feet and have used this tripod on rocks, dirt, grass, mulch, sand, strong wind, and steep slopes without any worries. The twist-to-loosen leg locks take me a little more time to adjust than snap locks, but are rock solid when tight and I've never had them loosen. I use the Manfrotto 324RC2 Joystick ball head with this tripod and have never had an issue with the ball head coming loose.

            Only two negative things:
            1. Occasionally one of the all-terrain feet pop off the spike when I bump it a certain way. I would prefer the feet to be a little more difficult to remove.
            2. Like I said it's a tank. If you're looking for a lightweight tripod in the field, this one is not for you. I would never want to hike very far with it.

I would definitely buy this tripod again, if needed, but I'm I thinking this one may out last me.

Comments about Vanguard Auctus 283AT Aluminum Tripod (Legs Only):

I bought this tripod two years ago from a local photo store. Since my purchase I have experienced constant problems with Manfrotto head coming loose. It seems I spend about 2 hours every month trying to re-attach the head to this pair of sticks. One time I even brought the unit to the Vangaurd headquarters here in Michigan and they "fixed" it on the spot. That lasted about 1 month. This unit is extremely frustrating as here I am again, the night before a shoot, trying to fix the tripod because of Vangaurd's poor design and craftsmanship. I would NOT recommend this product to anyone.
