Questions? Ask our experts:

The 82mm Carl Zeiss T* UV Filter from Zeiss is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast effects are provided, rendering a clean and natural appearance.

A UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

The T* anti-reflective coating helps to reduce reflections on the filter's surface and promote a better light transmission for high quality imagery. The filter ring is designed with a slim profile to allow its use on wide angle lenses, but front filter threads are still available for the use of additional filters.

Comments about 82mm Carl Zeiss T* UV Filter:

Purchased for use on a new Tamron SP 24-70, the quality of this filter assures that nothing about my images will be compromised. Also, its thin filter ring allows use of the Tamron's standard lens hood.

Comments about 82mm Carl Zeiss T* UV Filter:

While perhaps it is not mandatory to put a UV filter in front of a lens, I prefer doing so since I usually shoot in difficult environments where salt water, steam, sand and rock debris are the norm. These new filters by Zeiss are very well built, the y thread nicely onto the lens thread.

I also use the filters as a replacement of the lens cap. This saves me time from opening up the lens cap and fumbling with it, finding a place to store it or putting it in my pocket. With the filter the front element is always protected and I don't have to worry about the caps missing or getting in the way.

Optically I see no detriment in picture quality and the T* coating does a very good job minimizing reflections. It also does not create any new ones from light that shines off the lens font element back onto the filter. They are not inexpensive, but I think it is worth paying a few extra bucks.

Upon the very technical and specific critics that could be made by specialists and strongly experienced pro photographs, I shall say that this UV filter works perfectly with the Carl Zeiss distagon and Makro Planar lenses. Easy to carry, to attach and to use. No deception for the price. [...]
