Don't want to buy a television but want to watch TV? Here's a super-cool solution: The HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner from SiliconDust. With the HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner, you can watch either ClearQAM or ATSC TV in 1080i HD TV on multiple computers that are on your wireless network. With a (separately purchased) DVR program on your computer, you can go also beyond watching these TV formats live. You can record, pause, and rewind either format and in 1080i, if broadcast in that resolution. With a supported DVR program, you can also schedule and then record all your favorite upcoming TV shows. If supported with your DVR program, you can also peruse through a TV guide.

In more logistical terms, this TV tuner has a built-in Fast Ethernet port so that you can connect it to your network router, and let the router stream the content to your wirelessly connected computers. If you want to watch ATSC DTV, you will need to use an antenna with the tuner. If you want ClearQAM, you will need to connect the tuner to your TV cable line. You can do one or the other with this tuner, not both at the same time. You can however connect multiple HDHomeRun Dual TV tuners to your network and the tuners will automatically be allocated between computers as needed.* If you want to say goodbye to the TV set but still want to watch ATSC or ClearQAM television, say hello to SiliconDust's HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner!

Note! *Select DVR programs support this function: Windows Media Center, BeyondTV, SageTV, GBPVR, MediaPortal, and TotalMedia

Connects to Your Network
Because the HDHomeRun Dual connects to your router, you can access the tuner from any computer, anywhere in your home that connects to your network through the router
ATSC TV
Use an antenna to pick up the free broadcast Digital TV (ATSC) available in your area, such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, among other networks. Most locations have additional subchannels carrying kids programming, classic TV, weather channels and more; all of which are available for no monthly fee
ClearQAM TV
You can also connect your HDHomeRun Dual directly to the incoming cable line to receive the unencrypted digital cable ("ClearQAM") channels your cable provider offers
HD TV
The HDHomeRun Dual streams the full-quality digital stream from the broadcaster or cable provider, ensuring that you get the highest quality possible, including 720p and 1080i HDTV when available
Do More than Watch
You can watch, pause, record, and rewind live TV, depending on the DVR program installed on your computer
Schedule Shows to Record in Advance
The tuner works in combination with whatever DVR software you install on your computer, so that you can schedule in advance and record all your favorite TV shows
More TV with Multiple Tuners
Multiple HDHomeRun units can be used together to expand the number of tuners on your network. They are automatically allocated between computers as needed. Tuner pooling works with Windows Media Center, BeyondTV, SageTV, GBPVR, MediaPortal, and TotalMedia
iPod and iPhone Capable
You can stream your HDTV live on your iPad or iPhone throughout your wireless network. You'll need to use EyeTV software as well as an EyeTV App purchased on iTunes, but once you have these, you can watch, pause, and record on these handheld Apple devices
Compatible with a Variety of DVR Programs
The HDHomeRun Dual works with a variety of popular DVR applications that are compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux programs, such as Windows Media Center, Elgato EyeTV, Myth TV, SnapStream Beyond TV, SageTV, and MediaPortal

I used this product to stream the Superbowl to my laptop which was projected with a DLP projector. Needless to say, my buds thought a 10 foot screen in full HD was pretty sweet! The product works flawlessly. It is easy to set up. Just plug in the connections, plug it into your wireless router, and run the software. It picks up the tuners no problem and scans more channels than I have ever gotten on a tuner, and I'm just using rabbit ears!

This tuner is for digital channels ONLY!!! I use it on all of my Windows Media Center machines and it works. It is more difficult to set up than your standard tuner card and some channels may not be there. Some channels may not have all of the info with them. This product is definitely for the tinkerers. 2 stars for is difficulty to set up and lack of working as described.
Most of these problems are with the cable companies output but Silicon Dust failure to disclose this makes it's product look bad.

Comments about SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner:

Used to record over the air television. Will also work with Clear QAM. Recordings with Windows Media Center and live streams were always very good in quality (connected to Antenna's Direct CS2 installed in attic). Worked with both my Windows and Mac computers. The only thing that keeps me from giving this a five star rating is the lack of hardware based transcoding to H.264, as MPEG 2 for Hi-Def sources creates some pretty large recording files. It also requires significant bandwidth from your network. Still, I highly recommend this tuner and its CableCARD sibling, the HDHomeRun Prime.

Comments about SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner:

Works as it is supposed to. WMC tuner scan actually works for OTA, but using ClearQAM is a PITA and you must use the 'GuideTool' program to get your channels imported into WMC correctly.

WMC also installs HDCP software in the background, which may cause some problems if you are using a non-HDCP compliant splitter.

The tuner worked as indicated; however, we also planned to move home movies from the VHS to the computer. The VHS output [coaxial] is analog so we are unable to use the HDHR3-US for this purpose. We need to find out if a "Black Box" can convert analog coaxial to digital coaxial OR digital RCA output plugs to coaxial ...

Bought this unit to replace an old USB tuner we were using for our Windows 7 Media Center that is connected to our living room TV. This was very easy to set up on the network and Media Center discovered the two tuners with no trouble whatsoever. We are using it to view and record local off-air HD channels (we canceled our cable TV about a year ago). I'm very pleased with the picture quality and ease of use. I highly recommend it!

The HDHR is easy to install and does what it says. Easy to integrate with WMC on Win 7. I was ALMOST able to stream HD content over my N wireless. If you have a strong connection and wireless card with enough power, you might be able to do it. I ran a physical cable and the content streams flawlessly.

This is a great little network tuner. Got it when I cancelled cable, so I could use it as a DVR for over-the-air channels. I use it with MythTV under Linux. Works quite well, seems to pick up all the local channels with no dropouts, even though my antenna is currently in the basement. The included Windows utility for watching TV is pretty simple, but sound doesn't work. I'm thinking it's something I'm doing wrong, or it's a Windows issue, because it works fine with MythTV.

Comments about SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner:

Bought this to replace my cable/DVR. It was really easy to set up with the software that was included. The hardest part was trying to adjust my rabbit ears antenna to get a signal. :) After that, viewing television, and connecting into Windows Media Center and to record programs was a cinch.

(HINT: For those using Windows Media Center as a DVR. When I tried to record, the screen would go black and I would get a "No Signal" error message. I initially thought it might be a problem with the HDHomeRun, but I was able to get a signal with no problem using the HDHomeRun software. It turns out that I just needed to go into the Guide in WMC and right-click on the channel and Edit Channel | Edit Sources and then select the correct signal. You can preview the signal, and then prioritize the signals that are found for each channel.)

It's not often something works just as advertised, but this worked like a charm. I'm really happy with this purchase.

I was sadly disappointed that I could not get it to work with Win7 Home edition (Media center). I tried everything but it would not work with Charter Cable.
The concept was exactly what I was looking for.

Comments about SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun Dual TV Tuner:

Here is what I like about HDHomeRun - I was able to install HDHomeRun connected to Comcast cable and on to my network in couple of minutes, and was able to watch and record program using the Windows Media Center running on my HTPC and laptop without any trouble for the past couple of days. Most HD channels looks just like they appear while watching on the TV. I had used WMC with other PCI tuners in the past and it had been a very bad experience, it wasn't reliable. So far my experience with HDHomeRun has been really good. Here is what I don't like about HDHomeRun - There is no way you could watch/record these programs on Mac/iDevices without buying additional software from third party vendors, which are really expensive.Software downloads available on the SiliconDust website for Mac is just a developer's version of the configuration tool. You cannot use that to watch/record programs from Mac. I wish there was a program developed by SiliconDust to cover this area on the Mac and iOS. For iOS I tried using InstaTV Pro, you can watch some of the programs there, but the video quality isn't that good. The videos appear interlaced, some of the dynamic sport actions, like football are horrible to watch on InstaTV Pro. Also, I could not use this tuner with my WorldTV/Globecast satellite receiver's TV out signal - Which I guess is not supported by HDHR.I will give full 5 stars only when SiliconDust comes up with an app on the Mac and iOS devices which could be used to watch and record programs.

Receivers sometimes drop out and miss a few swconds of a broadcast; my Tivio shares the same antenna and does not have this problem.

Smaller than it looked in the pictures, and very light. Works like a charm -- plugged in the ethernet cable and set it up, separately, as a TV Tuner for both Media Center (Windows 7) and Beyond TV. I was concerned about HD quality over the network but I haven't noticed any major issues on my 46" Panasonic plasma.

Using product for OTA HD and SD TV Channels. Streaming to MacPro/MacBook ,Windows PC and iPad. I use it to record TV to my HDD. I use it to wirelessly stream recordings to or view live TV on my iPad which is connected to my HD TV in the living room. HDHomerun is located at the other end of my home.

Works great for my purpose. Expect to get some skipping or occasional dropped frames if you have many devices on your WiFi network and the network is very active or busy.

Would be great if device came with a separate antenna connection for each tuner.

Can connect directly to PC if desired. Tuner sensitivity is better than my TV or other devices. Use with Windows MC to have a DVR with no monthly fees. Network light often flashes until it is being used for live TV or to record. But media center tunes to station and will record even if the light is initially flashing.
