Video and photos are equally well served by this waterproof (up to 9.8 ft) wonder. Whether shooting 1080p/720p video, standard-definition video, or 16MP stills, you're assured of capturing impressive high-quality images. Twin Movie/Photo buttons let you quickly switch between shooting video and stills, while the camera's Intelligent Auto (iA) functions accurately read the scene and do the heavy lifting for you. In Photo mode you can also choose your own scene setting or color mode, or switch the camera to Manual and take pictures the old-fashioned way.

The WA10's 3" widescreen LCD not only rotates 285°, it provides 7 levels of brightness, helping you compose your shots from nearly any angle and still keep your image in view. The 5x optical zoom, meanwhile, expands to 12x in 30p video mode, so you can get closer to your subject with no image degradation. Face Detection, Nine-point Auto Focus, and electronic image stabilization keep subjects in focus and images steady.

Other standout features include Macro Shooting for getting up close and personal, simultaneous Movie/Photo capture for grabbing 2MP stills while shooting video, and the handy High-Speed Reverse Consecutive Shooting function, which captures a sequence of images from before you hit the shutter button. From the comfort of your living room to the natural wonders beneath the Great Barrier Reef, the HX-WA10 is your go-to camera for capturing life's most vibrant moments.

Waterproof to a Depth of 3 Meters
Take the HX-WA10 underwater as deep as 9.8 feet (3 meters) and get some great still or moving images in a pool or the ocean. Swim along with tropical fish, capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or get action footage of a friend snorkeling. Waterproofing also means you can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries.

Movies

Bright Full-HD (1920 x 1080) Movie Recording
Even with its light weight and slim design, the HX-WA10 renders images in breathtaking, Full-HD (1920 x 1080) beauty. The sensitivity of the CMOS sensor has been improved by BSI (Backside Illumination) sensor technology, so you can record clear images even when in dimly lit places--like indoors and at parties. You can preserve precious memories in stunning image quality for watching on a large-screen TV or sharing on the web.
New High-Quality Image Engine
This New High-Quality Image Engine enables both excellent image quality and a compact body. Its image-processing algorithms and architecture were designed for high-speed processing, signal processing systems were optimized for noise reduction, and power consumption was reduced. In addition to providing motion judgment for the noise elimination process, the 3D Digital Noise Reduction function also lowers random noise. By allotting the bit rate for the noise consuming component to the video signal, compression efficiency is improved for crisp, clear movie images.
12x Advanced Zoom for Motion Image Shooting
In addition to an optical 5x zoom, the New High-Quality Image Engine of the HX-WA10 lets you shoot motion images with a maximum 12x Advanced Zoom with no image quality degradation.* You can get a flexible shooting range, from wide-angle to dynamic zooming.

*Only for video recording at 30p. When shooting photos, the maximum zoom is 5x.
iA (Intelligent Auto)
This powerful function senses the shooting conditions and automatically makes the settings and activates functions that will deliver optimal results. With both motion and still images, iA does the bothersome settings for you and makes it easy to capture beautiful, well-focused images.
Intelligent Scene Selector
The Intelligent Scene Selector function analyzes the shooting situation and automatically switches the Dual Camera to the suitable scene mode that will give you optimal results. Scene modes are Portrait, Scenery, Spotlight, and Low Light, for a range of exposure options.
Face Detection
Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see. The focus also prioritizes the faces, and skin tones are smoothed. Faces in the center of the frame serve as the reference for adjustments, but the function can detect up to 15 faces at once.
E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer)
The E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer) system helps to correct the kind of hand-shake blurring that often happens with compact cameras. Record all the images you want, whether you're shooting while walking, or taking self-portraits, without having to worry about blurring.
285° Rotating, 3" Wide-screen LCD
The HX-WA10 features a 3" widescreen LCD monitor that allows the brightness to be adjusted in seven levels. It also rotates through approximately 285°, so you can easily position it at your preferred angle. This lets you keep your subject clearly in view, whether you're shooting high, low, or at yourself and your pets.
Twin Shutter
The twin shutter design gives you two separate buttons for shooting still images or movies. Shoot either type of image with single-finger operation, and with no need to switch modes. You can also shoot a photo at the same time as you record a movie.
Stereo Microphone
The HX-WA10 uses a stereo microphone speaker, letting you record motion images with lifelike stereo sound.

Photos

16MP Still Picture Recording
Shoot high-quality still images with 16-megapixel resolution. Depending on the situation, you can flexibly shoot either high-quality photos or movies. You can also capture 2MP still images while recording a movie by simply pressing the Still button.
High-Speed Reverse Consecutive Shooting
The High-Speed Reverse Consecutive Shooting function continues to capture images while the Still button is pressed, and then, by releasing the button when the desired scene ends, the data that was input just prior to the button release is recorded onto the Built-in Memory as consecutive images. This lets you preserve important memories without missing out on those split-second shutter opportunities. 1
Macro Shooting
Get as close as 1cm when shooting small objects such as flowers or accessories. Enjoy creative shooting with high-resolution photos.
Nine-point Auto Focus
The HX-WA10 automatically focuses on your subject with its nine-point auto focus, even if it isn't located in the center of the frame. This prevents your shots from going out of focus.
Color Mode
Give the image some warmth with Sepia mode, make it extra cool with Monochrome mode, or capture beautiful skin tones with Soft Skin mode. Match your shooting to your mood and subject.
Manual Shooting
Select the exposure compensation, aperture priority, and manual mode to shoot. This allows manual shooting to match the situation.

I upgraded to this from it's older SD brother, the Panasonic SWR-WA10. More or less it appears to be the same eye opening freedom of a tough, small, quick, simple, waterproof camcorder, with the very welcome improvement of a bunch more pixels, a new delightfully ergonomic design, and a crazy three second start-up. There are also a lot of newfangled auto settings that I'll never use, having to do with pretty specific lighting environments, face detection, etc. The face detection is super snappy if you are into that sort of thing.

The image quality, despite the pixel count, is actually very similar to the older SWR; a soft, grainy, not terribly saturated image. You can certainly work against this in settings, but, I've personally come to love this look. It has a warmer, more organic feel that I've come to know Panasonic for. ALMOST reminiscent of Super 8mm. This is opposed to the sharper, more metallic feel I typically find in Sony cameras.

As I mentioned, the freedom of having a camera like this is truly, truly great. Perfect for travel, or for that matter the simple documentation of anything.

This is going back to B&H immediately. Epic Fail for a product such as this. Not enough dynamic range in this camera/camcorder to record scenes in broad daylight--the intended use of this product. It should be able to manage outdoor scenes, after all it is waterproof, weatherproof... where else you plan to use such a camera/camcorder
I have owned dSLR and point&shoots, have a reasonable expectation for this type of product but this falls way short. Blows the highlights out of every shot that isn't so underexposed that you lose all detail in shadows. Never seen anything else with this poor of DR in this category, period. Absolutely no controls on basics such as Contrast. Only a few color modes to choose from and in my tests I see little to no difference in the recorded images when switching between OFF and Soft, or any of the others for that matter. Ridiculous. There is some unexplained cropping going on when you switch from 720p to 1080p. Zoom level increases in viewfinder. Comparing quality of image, there was MORE NOISE in 1080p image than 720p, even when stretching the latter out to 1080p frame size!

The only positive is build quality, but what comes out of the camera is so poor quality that the former + doesn't even come close to offsetting it.

Stay away from this product until Panasonic does a major overhaul on the sensor output/firmware. Lastly, as of today, Panasonic USA DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS PRODUCT! I spent 1 hr on the phone, transfered between 4 dept, finally a supervisor explained the camera is not supported by USA (.com) website, only .net. They have no info, techsupport. They could not answer any basic questions. Really odd, unacceptable.

Comments about HX-WA10 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Orange):

Haven't tried the underwater aspect yet, but the movies and photography are simple and intuitive. The camera holds steady and even on a Mac, the transfer of images from camera to computer is easy. It is a little on the heavy side and doesn't come with it's own SD card, but those problems are easily surmounted. Highly recommend.

We bought two - one for work and one for pleasure. Both of them don't allow the zoom to work for photo's. you zoom in and when you push picture button it automatically zooms out....totally bug.

The other issue is the recording videos is the mic easily gets overwhelmed by background noise. No input for a mic either if you wanted to use this to get better sound pick up.

    Disappointing overall.

Comments about HX-WA10 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Orange):

A Concept for the future. Panasonic seems to have put this out in a rush. Compared to Lumix it is a complete failure. Where to begin. The Zoom is to fast, the contrast is very extreme, the presets do not stay preset. The manual setting is 4 clicks into the menu. Best of all, there is no tech support. This thing is so bad that Panasonic does not even acknowledge its existence. I have used Panasonic products for over 30 years and this has to be the worst thing they ever produced.

Comments about HX-WA10 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Orange):

I purchased this camera for my daughter to use kayaking. One of the primary criteria for selecting this model was the optical zoom. I personally find digital zoom to be worthless. Experimentation with the different modes indicates that for this application the 720 60fps mode produced the best results. However, I noticed that frequently the rocks and background trees and bushes lost all detail. I believe this is due to the sensor not having sufficient sensitivity.Unfortunately, on the first real test of this camera it broke. What happened is that she flipped in her kayak, the view screen came open, and then snapped off. It seems to me that a waterproof camcorder should be built a little bit more rugged than this.Obviously if you wish to purchase this camera you should by a protective case for it. This does however make it far less convenient to use and makes a higher quality cam corder in a waterproof housing worth considering as an alternative.I [...]

Comments about HX-WA10 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Blue):

I have owned a MiniDV and a DSLR for years. This is my first digital camcorder however. For the price, this is a very good product. The additional $70 to buy the waterproof version is worth it. Took video at the pool and it turned out very good. Looking forward to using in the snow. The controls are intuitive and the handling is great. Outdoor videos are excellent. It does not have 1080p, the white balance is not great, low light shooting (indoors) is o.k., but I would not expect more from a [$] camcorder. The only major problem is that at its widest, the lens is not wide enough. A minor problem is that the water sealed cover for the input jacks is sometimes hard to open. The sound quality is acceptable. I have not used the camera much, I prefer a dedicated picture camera.

Comments about HX-WA10 HD Waterproof Dual Camcorder (Black):
