The G-Technology 3 TB 3.5" Deskstar Spare Hard Drive for G-safe, with SATA 6 Gb/s interface, 64 MB cache, and 7200 RPM rotational speed, offers a complete storage solution for PC gaming and external storage applications.

Featured Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) technology reduces the clearance between the read/write elements of the slider and the disk surface to increase the recording density of hard disk drives. The head load/unload function protects the disk during idle state.

The S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) detects and reports hard drive failure. In addition, the HiVERT (Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator Technology) technology combines with Enhanced ABLE (Enhanced Adaptive Battery Life Extender) to reduce power consumed by the hard drive.

With halogen free design and power saving operation, the hard drive qualifies for the EcoTrac classification that reduces environmental impact in the areas of product design, manufacturing, operation and disposal.

Great drive. Very solid. Bought to use as an internal drive for Mac Pro. Just removed the rails and it worked perfectly.

Comments about G-Technology 3TB 3.5" Deskstar Spare Hard Drive for G-safe:

I purchased the 3TB G-Safe (which comes with two 3TB drives in a RAID 1 configuration) and then a single spare 3TB drive. I bought the 3TB size because it allows me to fit all of my video and photos and documents on to it with a bit of room to spare. Now, my procedure is to keep the G -Safe at home connected to my iMac and keep the spare drive (with all the same data) in a safe deposit box. Every few months, or as needed (depending on my activity), I take one of the drives out of the G-Safe and exchange it with the one in the Safe Deposit box. In this fashion, I have very little exposure to data loss.

I'm quite happy with this product. The G-Safe looks nice and is weighty . It has a fan (which is a little noisier than I'd like but I consider that a minor issue) and temperature gauge. The drive had never gotten above 45C and normally idles at 33C. It never feels hot to the touch. It has firewire 800 (two of these), USB 2 and e-Sata connections.

Comments about G-Technology 3TB 3.5" Deskstar Spare Hard Drive for G-safe:

The G-Safe in combination with a 3rd drive that I can keep off site makes for the perfect backup solution for my photo and video work. The drives and the G-safe are build like a brick and very reliable. I have no complaints at all.
