The Nissin Di866 Mark II Flash For Canon DSLRs & Powershot Hot Shoe Cameras, with a Guide Number of 198 (ISO 100 in feet at 105mm), provides photographers with the power needed to light up a wide variety of shooting situations. It provides an easy-to-read, two-way color display which helps ensure intuitive operations. The Mark II has been upgraded from the previous model, with a re-designed zoom head that's "whisper quiet", a metal foot for the mount, and a flash tube with increased heat tolerance. The fill-in subflash power ratio range has been increased, now offering a range from 1/1 to 1/128, and the range of the wireless sensor has been improved.
The Mark II also has auto-rotation so it stays upright even when turned for vertical framing. It features the "MY TTL" mode for adjustable default level, and a manual motor zoom of 24-105mm. It is designed with clip-on capabilities, built-in wide-angle diffuser and catch-light reflector for added versatility. It's powered by four (4) LR6 rechargeable batteries, (Lithium, NiMH or Oxyride--not included), and when it is operated with a Nissin Power Pack Pro 300 (not included), users have 300 full-power flashes. It boasts a recycling time of about 3.5 seconds.
The Di866 is a high-powered flash unit, great for serious photographers who will appreciate its features.

I use this flash for wireless multi-flash setups, in conjunction with a Canon 580-II, usually on a Canon 5D-MkII. I am very pleased with both, although they differ slightly in their strongest points. (I strongly prefer either of them over the pair of Sigma flashes that I used previously. The Sigma wireless TTL was simply not up to par.). When used appropriately (i.e. line of sight) the wireless TTL functions quite well teamed with the Canon. Although I haven't extensively tested this hypothesis, they may work slightly better when the Nissin is used as the master, and the Canon as the slave flash. However, I would arrange them this way anyway for another reason: the LCD display on the Nissin is one of its strong points, clearly preferable to the Canon LCD in both appearance/legibility and menu organization. I also prefer the battery tray/compartment of the Nissin; quite handy when the batteries run dry halfway through the wedding reception...
Complaints? None of any consequence. Another reviewer commented that the Nissin does not feel quite as sturdy as the Canon. I agree that the Canon has its typical "built like a tank" feel, but neither feels loose or flimsy, and both have shrugged off substantial abuse. I am aware of some chat-room reports that the Nissin may be vulnerable to damage from overheating when fired in rapid succession over a prolonged period. I've not had that problem, even when photographing rapid sequences of children and/or pets. I suspect that the photographers in question needed a second (or third) flash, fired at a lower setting, rather than overworking a single unit.
Overall, I am very pleased with it, and have no trouble recommending it. Would I choose it over the Canon? I don't know that I could say that one is truly superior to the other. Ferrari versus Porsche... Fender versus Gibson... aside from the fanaticism of brand loyalty, most folks with be delighted either way.

This was my first TTL flash for my EOS 60D. All my images were underexposed by 2stops in TTL & Auto (in flash) mode. Exposed well in HSS and it was consistent. Whatever it did/result, it was consistent. The flash supposed to expose well in TTL & Auto mode, distributor confirmed this. But, may be I was unlucky. The distributor, Minox USA, really helped me to figure out whether I am doing something wrong and he accepted to replace it if I wish. Nobody will regret if one already own a Nissin Flash bought in USA from Authorised sellers, as Minox can do their best. But I finally decided to return to B&H so that I can buy another brand or whatever I wish. Product was returned. Once B&H Store Credit, its all up to me to decide. I really appreciate the UI, it is so easy to use. The color, it was really good. All I needed to do was, +2 to +3 stops to get good exposure in TTL & Auto mode at less than normal flash sync speed 1/250. Features are really good, no doubt. We can achieve -6 to +6 stops by both in-flash and in-camera FEC. My alternate flash in my mind now is Canon 600EX-RT, true that is almost 70% costs more than the Nissin. I want to have consistent flash last long.

Many of my photos are shot in large rooms, and I needed a more powerful flash than my in-camera flash provided. This product gave me more bang for the buck than other options, and it has worked well. I have used it at a wedding, a church reception and a juvenile theatre production with good success. While a battery pack would have been nice, I keep spare batteries in my bag as a back-up. I strongly recommend that one purchase a snap-on flash diffuser for close shots.

I was excited at first in buying the Di866 mkii. I thought that getting a flash with the same output for a Canon 580ex at half the price was a no brainer! The first Di 866 was making an awful electrical sound as if it was about to explode. I tookmitnback and after trying another three Nissin Di 866 mkii they ALL made the same sound. I finally found one that was ok. Took it home onlybtonfind the diffuser was intermittent. When you extended it sometimes it wouldn change to the 24mm setting, other times nothing happened. I finally tookmitnback tonthe store and bought the new Canon 600 RT. three times the price...but at least inknownitnwont let me down. You get what you pay for.

Comments about Nissin Di866 Mark II Flash For Canon DSLRs & Powershot Hot Shoe Cameras:
This flash worked fine for me until one day when I needed to do a lot of flash work. I played with the manual settings after some shooting and the flash froze up. Removed the batteries and was able to get the flash to reboot but now the flash would only work in bounce-sub mode. It is either a bug in the operating system or perhaps related to the many flashes stressing the electronics though I never got an "overheat" message, it never felt warm and it still worked in bounce mode, suggesting a system error. I reset to factory settings and the flash still did not work. The shoe mount on the Di866 is not nearly as firm and reliable for my Canon EOS as my Canon 430 EX. Lastly, this is not fully usable with all Canon camera - important if you plan to upgrade. Went back to my Canon 430 to finish the job and will upgrade to a stronger Canon flash. Would not make this purchase, in hindsight.

Overall a great flash, very happy with it.Relatively consistent in terms of exposure, works great with my T3i, plenty of power, much cheaper than official Canon flash too. Firmware upgradable so when new cameras come out, Nissin will provide a USB firmware upgrade - nice touch.
LCD menu system not the best, a bit gimmicky, but good enough to use.
I'm happy with my purchase, especially for the price I paid.

Comments about Nissin Di866 Mark II Flash For Canon DSLRs & Powershot Hot Shoe Cameras:
The Di866Mk2 for Canon is a very good alternative to the extra bucks you put out for the comparable Canon. I am still learning as well as remembering to use the secondary flash located just under the main flash. Build quality is very solid, but none are built as solid as Canon Flash Guns. The LCD screen is broght and crisp. It is very easy to see and navigate to the desired setting and automatically rotates as you rotate the camera! Operation is well behaved audibly and metering seems to work as well as any Canon I have used. It also sports a very important element to any "Professional" flash gun, a metal cleat! This was after all, where my last Flash Gun broke and it was not repairable. It is important to note that better batteries produce significantly improved recycle times. Invest in the best re-chargables, it will be worth it when shooting long events.

This speedlight does fine. I mainly bought it because I read a very positive magazine review. One of the features I was the most excited about was to shoot wirelesslely. It turns out I didn't really like using the DSLR flash as the "trigger" which pretty much requires line of sight. So I mainly use a third party remote trigger system which means I could have bought the Canon without built in "wireless" capability to begin with.
