I've been frustrated with my 580ex II's for a while. If I was using the flashes at full power and I didn't wait a full 5-7 seconds between shots, the subsequent shots would be underexposed.
I bought 2 of these battery packs (1 for each 580) and had a chance to test them this weekend. I was very pleased with the results. I fired the flashes very quickly (2 seconds or so), and every shot was exposed the same.
The only improvement I would suggest is the ability to unplug the cord from the battery pack. I use PocketWizards on my 580's and they require the AC7 shield to function properly. Here's the annoying part, I have to remove the flash from the AC7 to plug/unplug the battery pack.
Let me be clear, the inconvenience is NOT at all Bolt's fault. Other than that, I love these.

After reading all the glowing reviews for the CBP-C1, I bought one for use with my 580EX II and MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite. Having never used an external battery pack before, I left the settings on the flash to refresh from internal or external batteries. While using it for a photo shoot I noticed the refresh time started to drop drastically. So I changed the batteries in my battery pack only to find the refresh times stayed the same. After changing the settings to refresh only from the external batteries it would not refresh at all. So I tried it on my MR-14EX and it worked most of the time, but occasionally dropped out. I checked the connector and found that one of the 3 pins on the cord was recessed.
I returned it to B&H for repair and bought the Canon CP-E4 battery pack. It worked perfectly on both flashes plus when you plug it into the flash, unlike the Bolt, the connector locks tightly into the socket on both flashes. The Bolt definitely has problems with the interface cord design and/or build. The CP-E4 is much better in both design and build quality, well worth the extra cost.
By the way, B&H did a great job handling the return of the Bolt unit.

Things I love - size, weight, price, ease of use, concept. Things I am unsure of - true reliability! I used this at a wedding shoot for the first time yesterday, and about 3/4 of the way through, NO Flash! I used it with a 580EX. I may have been at fault keeping it on High Speed Sync. Feared that I burned out my flash unit, but after cooling and recharging batteries, it appears to be okay today. Have to say, I was seriously bummed to lose flash using this, when I bought it to get through heavy, fast firing shoots like yesterday... Have to wonder if the Canon would be better?

Works as well as the Canon model. Build quality is fine to me, and so far I've had no problems with it. I have been using velcro straps through the belt loop to attach it to a light stand.

I LOVE the power in this thing. I have also used the larger battery packs and honestly this Lil one is just a good. I used the alkaline batteries as they last longer.
I love how this thing fits in your back pocket perfectly. With my heavy eqiptment I love that it's one less heavy thing I have to hold!

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
The Bolt battery pack for Canon flashes seems to work well. The indicator lights are weird, though. They blink slowly when the unit is energized. When the flash is recycling, the lights turn on steady. I haven't tested it with low battery, but supposed, the indicator lights blink instead of being steady during recycle. Not ideal. A better indicator light setup would be lights that indicate relative battery life, like the Quantuum batteries. The fit and finish is OK. A tad less than the Canon, but it seems functional and not terrible. What the heck, it's a plastic and metal holder for 8 batteries hooked up to a cord that plugs into the flash. And it costs under $[$]. I like having booster batteries for all of my Canon flashes. This way they recycle quickly.

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
This pack actually has more features than the more expensive standard Canon product. I like the dual illuminated power indicator lights. You can actually use only 4 batteries if you want and still benefit from it's use (not sure if Canon model can do that). It feels a bit cheaper than the Canon model. It lacks a strap with buckle which makes it difficult to attach to a lighting stand.

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
I recently decided to buy 3 of these when they were on a really good sale. I was highly considering them prior to the sale, as I just couldn't believe they could be inferior to the Canon OEM ones. (I have used two Canon OEM ones in the past) For the short time I've used these, I'm quite impressed! I'm not going to comment on their recycle time, because that is completely dependent upon the quality and capacity of batteries installed. I'm using these with Canon 600EX-RTs and the adapter is slightly tight when you insert it in the socket on the speedlite, and when you remove it, it's tight. The only other poorly designed part of this is the pouch the pack fits into doesn't have and easy to use strap or clip to attache to your belt or pocket edge or a camera strap or bag, etc. THIS IS EXACTLY LIKE THE CANON OEM MODEL. Wish they would have gone one step further than Canon. Too bad Think Tank Photo doesn't partner with Bolt to develop a better pouch that could even adapt to other Think Tank Photo products. These minor complaints and the fact that I've only used these for a short time is the reason for only 4 stars.

Great value compared to the price of the Canon model. I have had not issue with the connection not working as stated in some of the other reviews. The product works as expected and is great at reducing the cycle time of my flash.

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
Much of my shooting is low-light indoor action with remote flashes. I purchased two of these packs for my remotes to reduce recycle time and hopefully keep up with my camera's 5.3fps burst speed. They do a fine job. I can't go rock-and-roll forever (5 continuous shots, up from 2, seems to be the limit under my conditions), but recycle time is reduced, and I do not have to repeatedly return to the remotes to change the Powerex 2700mAh cells. Someday I'm going to fill these, and the flash, with disposable lithium cells to see what happens to the recycle time. The build quality is good, but not excellent. The cable and battery tray latch feel a bit flimsy. On the other hand, the belt loops are versatile, and the connector includes a seal to maintain the flash's weatherproofing (I use 580EX IIs). Once the unit's assembled and tucked away, your only worry is managing the cord. For walk-around shooting, I mount the pack on the rear shoulder of my home-made sling with the cord running across my chest and wrapped once around the flash before the connector. It stays snugly out of the way until you're ready to shoot, and is surprisingly unobtrusive while shooting. Overall, I spend a lot less time waiting for my flash to recycle. Well worth it.

It works great, and accomplishes everything that is promised. I use it with a SB-24, and does a great job getting the recycling time way down, and the best part, I get to use the batteries I already had. One inconvenient, I could get it to work with the SB-26, and I have many of those. Dont know why, I changed the pack for new ones, the manufacturer said it should, but for me it doesn't. Only on the SB-24, which is kinda sad, because I use the SB26 a lot too. But not looking at that part, is a great product.

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
Received the battery pack. Since there was one comment that stated the plug on the one he received was recessed and did not work correctly, I examined the plug. Did not find the problem. Put in 4 recharged batteries in the pack (could have put 8 but only had 4 recharged.) Put in the 4 required in my flash. Checked the flash settings and had to change one to flash and external. Put the flash on the camera, plugged in the battery pack and mounted the pack to the base of my 5d battery pack. Started shooting. Found mounting this to the camera was a bit cumbersome as I shot. Recycle was as listed (1 sec +) and shot about 50 shots in fairly rapid succession. No failures. Worked as advertised. Unmounted it from the camera and put it my pocket. Then shot in manual mode, AV mode TV mode and auto. No problems. Would recommend this to anyone.

Comments about Bolt CBP-C1 Compact Battery Pack for Canon Flashes:
I just used this in conjunction with my Canon Speelite 600EX-RT and Canon EOS 5d Mark iii to shoot a wedding over the weekend. I tried the flash with and without the battery pack, and wow can you tell the difference. The battery pack makes the cycle time so much quicker! I will definitely be using this for all my weddings going forward.
The only reason that I didn't give it 4 stars is because it's a little bulky. It does come with a tripod screw so that you can screw it into the bottom of the camera. However, the hole in the battery pack is not centrally located like it is in the camera, so you end up with 2-3 inches of the battery pack sticking out past the side of the camera. It has a belt loop, but I didn't want to keep it attached to me when I was switching cameras. I ended up slipping my camera strap through the belt loop to keep the battery pack and camera together.
