Comments about Rycote InVision Universal Pop Filter:

    Pros:
    - no gooseneck to wrestle with (this is a big deal for me).

    - works very well with a universal shockmount. Most designs (that don't rely on a gooseneck) attach to the mic itself. This removes that extra step if you are using the Rycote InVision USM.

    - can flip out of the way, but stay attached and ready to go at a moments notice.

    - Comes with a replacement filter.

    Cons:
    - a bit expensive. I don't regret my purchase, but if it ever breaks I'm not buying another one. I expect it to be very durable for this price. I'll list a couple alternatives later.

    - The extra filters are nice, but also probably means the material is not hydrophobic, which translates to a shorter lifespan by comparison.

    - More or less is only compatible with side address mics. This isn't so bad for me. I'm probably not going to use my SDC mics for vocals and a lot of top adress dynamic mics have pop filters built in.

    - the distance is set in stone. I sometimes like to track certain things VERY close to the capsule. I can fit about 4 fingers between the mic grill and this pop filter.

    - For a few applications this might be noisy compared to other options.

Let me go into detail on that last one:
You shouldn't be unless you're getting creative, but if you are getting creative and you're within 3 inches of this pop filter while doing some major plosive sounds you will hear it hitting the pop filter. It won't sound like the capsule ducking out, but you will hear the wind sound on the filter material a bit more than other pop filters. I think this is because the pop filter material on this thing is about 1/2" thick vs. being as thick as a pair of nylons for most other designs. The wind hits more layers and it generates a bit more noise. That being said, you will only hear it if you're tracking a vocal style that is really plosive-centric to begin with. (EG: ultra close micing something like 'Lucinda' by Tom Waits). Worse case scenario, you'll just need to back off a bit more, which might make you loose out on some proximity bass that was desired (that's what EQs are for though).

    Alternatives:
    WindTech PopGard 2000
    Charteroak pf-1
Those are both pop filter designs that don't usa a gooseneck like most other pop filter designs. They attached to the mic instead of the shockmount like the USM. Both of those also use an aquaphobic material.

    Conclusion:
I may sound a bit negative overall, but I'm still giving it 4 stars because it is close to being perfect, and my biggest complaint is very situational/can be easily fixed.

My advice is that if you have a universal shockmount and need a pop filter, this is a great choice. It's really nice to be able to flip it out of the way and flip it back into place as needed. It's also nice to be able to swap mics out and have the filter and shockmount stay where they are at all times. If you do not have a universal shockmount, This is still not a bad choice, but I strongly recommend checking out the PF-1 or PopGuard 2000 before pulling the trigger on this one.

Comments about Rycote InVision Universal Pop Filter:

I use this with the InVision Universal Shockmount and it's very simple and easy to use. No more fumbling around with a gooseneck pop filter that doesn't always stay in place. This pop filter is easy to mount, won't move and does a good job of eliminating plosives without coloring the sound of the vocals.
