When I first received the R2000 and ran a few test prints I was so disappointed in the quality that I came very close to sending it back. HOWEVER, all is well now and the printer is producing beautiful results. I send along my experience in the hopes that it will help someone else who might run across the same problems. Some background. I've used an Epson 1280 wide format printer for many years with stunning results, but had to finally retire it after the head became so clogged that no cleaning/repair would salvage it. So, decided on the R2000 - primarily because of the pigment-based inks, the UltraChrome ink system, and the wireless capabilities... oh, and the nice rebate right now. My computer is a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard... so if you have a Windows box, your mileage with this review may vary.[...] Setup was a breeze - the drivers and print utility installed on my Mac quickly and it was up and running on the wireless network without a hitch... just follow the Quick Setup Guide. I set up the utility for my paper type (Epson Photo Glossy) and chose the default Epson color calibration. The problems came when I sent my first test photos to the printer... they were terrible... washed out, flat, no depth at all. They were not even as good as plain paper prints from my cheapo office multi-function inkjet printer. Yikes! Ok, so maybe I had some bad settings. So I fiddled around with the color calibration and media choices on the print utility... still terrible. Tried printing from different programs... same thing.I won't use valuable space here describing all the gyrations I went through to diagnose the issue, nor the amount of photo paper and ink used... I'll just pass along the final results that cured the problems and produced absolutely beautiful prints.First, the paper is surprisingly important for these new pigment inks... perhaps much more so than dye-based inks (although I don't have confirmation of that). My paper was good quality Epson photo paper, but it was a few years old. I switched to fresh premium Red River paper... huge difference.Second, and very important. The printer ships with an old driver, so a driver update is essential. BUT... if you go directly to the Epson web site for the latest driver (as I did), you won't find it. The R2000 driver on the Epson support site is v8.43... THIS IS NOT THE LATEST DRIVER. On the Mac you need to let the built-in Apple software update app run - it will find the v8.60 driver. This is the driver you need. Switching to the 8.60 driver made all the difference in the world in the quality of my prints... they went from flat and uninteresting to absolutely stunning. Finally, download the ColorSync color profiles that match your paper. Then choose that colorsync profile under "Color Matching" and turn off all in-printer calibration under "Print Settings" in the print dialog page. I ordered some premium paper from [...] and downloaded the matching profiles from their web site. I then checked the R2000 output using the Gretag Macbeth ColorChecker calibration chart... the output of the R2000 was absolutely spot on. I have never seen such perfect color matching from a home inkjet.Keep in mind that the color vibrancy from pigment inks is not as "punchy" as with dye-based inks... so if you want a super vibrant "digital" look, this may not be the printer for you. However, the colors from the R2000 are more natural and "film like" than my previous dye ink printers, and based on my Gretag tests, more accurate, if that's what you are looking for.Another hint. If you are like me and make small test prints (like 3x5) on 8x10 paper to save $$, and reuse the paper by positioning each print in a new quadrant of the page, there is something to know. If the "Gloss Optimizer" is turned ON (it's a check box in the print driver utility), it will coat THE ENTIRE PAGE with the gloss optimizer coating, even if your photo is just a small portion of the page. So the next time you use the paper, it will be coated with gloss and that will change the print characteristics... it also uses up the gloss supply really, really quickly. I kept the gloss optimizer turned off for all of my testing and calibration. So, now my prints are stunning. I hope this review helps some of you in both your choice of printer and in perhaps avoiding the head banging I endured.

I built my computer and I am my own technical support. I am no slouch in the technical and geek departments. For reasons I explain below, however, I had to call Epson tech support on this printer. I'm also a videographer and I was attracted to the R2000 for printing high quality artwork for DVD and Blu-ray cases and for direct printing on DVD and Blu-ray discs. Other reviews are far more comprehensive about photo printing, so I'll not bother commenting on photos.

Printer #1 worked great out of the box after a short setup for use over WiFi. A test 8.5 x 11" borderless print on glossy looked astounding. I also printed on specialized templates for DVD cases directly from Adobe Illustrator with no problem. Direct printing from AI to DVD's, however, resulted in grossly offset images -- several inches in both directions. What the heck? Even Epson's own "Print CD" utility resulted in horribly offset images. A call to Epson technical support in less than 24h of my ownership resulted in a quick warranty replacement. Epson's service was top notch. Unfortunately, the warranty replacement wasn't.

Printer #2 could not even print more than 1/3 of ANY page, test page or otherwise, without generating a high pitched whine and seizing of the print head. Seriously? You gotta be kidding. In three decades of purchasing, installing, and using printers on Apple/Macs and PC's, these two state-of-the-art printers are the ONLY two that have ever given me problems. This is really disturbing. I gently asked Epson if they have received other complaints -- no, they haven't -- and Epson suggested that rough handling by the carrier might have damaged the print heads. Still, two lemons in a row? Another call to incredibly polite Epson tech support resulted in a rush shipment of another printer. Today, for reasons I'll never fathom, I received two of them. OK, so now I get to ship more printers back to Epson.

Printer #3 (obviously, the one I kept) did not set up smoothly using Epson's combo software/driver package, the same that I used before, despite clean uninstalls of everything Epson. A fresh download worked a treat, however. Printer #3 is working flawlessly. OK, so Epson came through.

In conclusion, this was BY FAR the clunkiest and most error-ridden experience I have EVER had with a printer. I ding Epson 2 stars for the crummy experience. What I have now, however, is what the other reviewers have posted, I am happy to say.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

This is our second R2000. We really work-horse this printer and it has more or less met our challenges. We felt that the R1900 had better color matching for us and our photos were crisper however, we mostly print color graphics on 80lb and 100lb matte cardstock - not what this is traditionally used for. We can't really comment on printing photos on photo paper. We can however say that this printer is billed as a graphics printer and we often have trouble creating subtle differences in color to match text for invitations or other things we print. It is a lot of tweaking to get close and sometimes we just can't get there. We did not have this issue with the R1900. We have had a lot of problems with the software and have reloaded it multiple times however, it still does not keep the settings we input and every time we print a new document we need to go into properties and reset everything. However, our prints with respect to ink usage are extremely reasonable, and there are very limited options for this level of performance, at this pricepoint, for what we do.

I print photos mostly using 4x6" and 13x19" dimensions and use premium paper. My Epson Stylus Photo R1800 died after about 12 years of faithful service, and I needed a replacement. This seems to have been an excellent choice. If anything it is better than what I previously had. I am very satisfied with it.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

this printer is loaded with printing options make it very unique in that you can print any media on almost any media setting. my only complaint is that the prints aren't as scratch resistant as they advertise.I would never thought an inkjet printer will match prints from a pro lab. I was debating between R2000 and the aging Canon 5d Mark II. At the time of my purchased, there were no review in [@]. I have farmed out most my works to Professional online and local lab in Minnesota in the past. I finally have side by side comparison prints from a Pro lab and R2000. For print size of 4"x6" to 11"x14", you won't notice the different. Wifi ready is big PLUS, it allow me to place the printer anywhere in the studio with an outlet. I have not print from roll and CD cover yet. For the last 3 months, I have not encountered double feeding, paper jam and ink clogging issue a well known problem for epson printers in the past. I've tested the clogging issue by not printing for 3 weeks and it still printed just fine. I will update my review if any thing arise.

The printer pints great colors on glossy photo paper, however, the feeding mechanics of the printer cannot handle heavier matte photo paper. I returned the printer.

B&H is an outstanding store, they stand behind what they sell and there were no hassle in the return process.

I am continue to purchase products from the store.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

This is an update to my earlier review of the Epson R2000. I've used it extensively in the past 2 weeks, have printed on glossy, luster, and matte paper, and so far have made 3 large prints, 12" X 32". The quality of all of these prints is incredible; even the prints on matte paper, which often seemed flat from the R800 and R2200, have a crispness and depth which is really quite surprising. I'm very pleased with the ink usage so far; after 3 of the large prints, 3 or 4 13" X 17" prints, and probably 6 or 8 prints 11"x 14" or 11"X 17", plus a bunch of test prints, the ink levels are well above the half-way mark. The colors are stunning, and I somehow have the impression that the prints are better than the image that appears on the screen; I don't know how that can be, but it definitely seems that way to me. I'm particularly impressed with the blues; they manage to be deep and crystal clear, never muddy or super-saturated. If this printer continues to function as it has so far, I will think of it as one of the best purchases I've ever made; it raises printing to a new level of fun for me.

A couple of things for people to be aware of; the printer does need time to warm up. If I don't use it for a few days, it takes quite a while to process the information for the first print; I actually timed it once, and it took almost 3 minutes from sending the image to print to the start of the print (this was on a 12"X 32" print, so it was a large file). I was really worried the first time it happened, one of the reasons I replaced my R800 was because it too often wouldn't print. The print would show up in the queue, but wouldn't go to print, and I'd have to shut down everything and start over. But this is not the case with the R2000, it just needs that bit of extra time on the first one, after that it starts printing almost immediately. Print time is very impressive; it printed the large prints in about 4 minutes, and regular sized prints in under 2 minutes. I forgot to mention that I connected via USB cable, so I can't comment on the wireless capability.

I still have absolutely no negative comments about this printer. I've had good luck with my other Epson printers in terms of reliability, so I am hoping for the same with this one. But there is no question in my mind, if for any reason something went wrong with this one, I'd order another one immediately, the prints are that good!

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I bought this printer 2 weeks ago to replace my aging Epson R800 and R2200 printers. I went back and forth between the R2880 and R2000 and decided I really wanted the gloss optimizer, since I mostly print color and I prefer glossy paper. Set-up and software installation was quick and easy, the instructions are clear and straightforward. My first very pleasant surprise was the test print page; I couldn't believe the sharp, crisp details of the print. I decided to reprint images I had done on the R800; I made no further adjustments to the images, just sent them to print on the R2000, and was absolutely blown away by the difference between the two prints. The R800 produced very nice prints, but the R2000 prints were in a totally different league. The colors were deep, rich, and vibrant, the images were sharp and crisp, and there was a depth to the images that simply did not exist on the other prints. I then selected a mostly black and white image which I had worked on extensively to get an acceptable image on the R800; "acceptable" meaning that I could not get rid of a faint green in the white areas, but it was a favorite shot so I settled for that. The print from the R2000 was almost like a black and white photo - absolutely no green or blue or purple hint at all.

There is nothing negative to say about this printer; it suits my purposes perfectly. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I just got the printer yesterday and was nervous about the setup complexity. The printer was actually very easy to install and setup the software via computer to printer by usb cable connection.

I printed out several images using my Lightroom 5.3 editing program using mostly default settings letting the printer make most of the decisions and was amazed at the beautiful colors. One image was of a couple of Pigmy Killer Whales which are rare sightings off the Big Island of Hawaii. The color was right on with the ocean showing up as beautiful blue as it was and the whales sharp as a tack.

I did a lot of research including contacting the Epson Company and B & H Photo and got good information on pigment ink versus dye ink. Pigment ink printers won out and the Epson got my vote and I am thrilled with the purchase.

I am a graphic designer and needed to print my updated portfolio for a job interview. This printer was recommended to me by a friend and could not be more perfect. It was easy to setup and has some exciting features I will have to play with in the future (like printing on CDs). The color is crisp and clean. I definitely recommend it if you need high-quality prints of your artwork.

My friend also gave me a great tip: If not printing glossy photos, go to the Printer Settings and make sure you have "Gloss Optimizer" UNchecked, to prevent the ink from running out too quickly. If one ink cartridge is empty, then the printer will not print, so this is a handy trick.

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I am a professional photographer and do a great deal of my printing on canvas with my printers. This printer just died on me two months past my warranty. I'm really ticked! I don't understand why there are so many good reviews for this printer. I have felt that the color quality was o.k. compared to the two Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printers I had before this one.

I felt like I wasted ink and paper fine tuning the color I saw on the paper verses what came out of the printer. Several times I would get a magenta wash on an area of my print, like that was the only color it could print in a wave-like pattern. I would do a test print and the nozzles would be fine but I still got this weird effect on my print. I know to use specific color profiles and setting, including using the right kind of brightness of paper to get the results I want. I had to guess a lot more with this printer. I have had nothing but problems loading my canvas paper. I always have to babysit the paper feed because it does not like to take the paper the first few times. I found the more crooked I loaded the paper, the better chance I had of the printer taking the paper and printing on it. I was living with this issue for over a year because I did not want to hassle with returning the printer.

In the past few weeks, I have slowly had more and more weird problems happen. Photos were not printed centered on the paper, prints would not print at all, and now I keep getting a general error with blinking paper and ink lights that will not go away. I have reset the printer, re-installed the driver several times, swapped USB cables and ports, experimented with printing the same image on different papers and sized papers. It's just luck if I will get anything to print at all.

All I have to say is that I am now in the market for a new printer and it will most definitely be a Canon again. Good riddance Epson!

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I am a visual artist often working multimedia with the resulting output of a digital printer. Here is a printer that will yield results worthy for any professional use. I tend to prefer a matte surface with some tooth. When a large print is desired for a show, especially from a large file, this printer delivers! I was able to get it up and running the same evening after it was unpacked and inventoried.
The drivers loaded on my ancient Windows XP notebook. No USB cable included but had one snaked away, nevertheless. Windows found it pronto. The software has its defaults, and, once you know how to change them, it becomes most rewarding to see the results roll on out. The pigment inks are pricey, as the paper, yet you are getting output worthy to hang on any salon wall. Sure, she drinks up expensive ink like a drunken sailor but, oh the results are FANTASTIC!!
While I refuse to accept responsibly or liability for a possible jam on your machine, I did run through an actual sheet of 90# watercolor paper culled from a block. WOW!! It was from a file shot on my trusty Nikon D-70, the hot-pressed matte finished French paper had all kinds of detail, chroma, hues, exactly as I had edited the NEF on my Mac. The unorthodox French watercolor media, not Epson's or even intended for such use really made a FANTASTIC print.
Then, as the D800 stole some the aged D70's thunder, really large files made some impressive 13x19 prints.
I did not try the paper roll feature. I did not attempt printing CD's or DVD's. I do not like the R2000's paper handling at all.
The instructions and illustrations are third rate.
Yet, I say again, My results on Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte are FANTASTIC!!

Comments about Epson Stylus Photo R2000 Wireless Color Inkjet Printer:

I have an Epson Artisan 730 for my daily scan, print needs. The R2000 is 13" for highest quality and giclee' prints, thicker media. I've also had the Epson 3800 17" model. All are well built, perform(ed) flawlessly. Larger ink cartridges for R2000 is desirable or at least refillable/swappable with preferred OEM ink. Epson could be more price competitive with OEM refillable system--less usage complaints, more control over ink supply levels--possibly opening door to dedicated b/w printer use (b/w ICC profiles), color as realistic swap. Especially at R2000 and above level, pigment models.

It's time for change, new ideas with printers.

35 years with B&H, near exclusively; camcorders, cameras, printers, hardware, accessories. Don't time waste looking elsewhere. Not a Q of nickel/dime. Quality, service, ship/delivery = reliable, consistent, dependable, price.

Never a bad experience, always accommodating.

                                    Go figure.
