The 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer from Apple is a sleek all-in-one computer with a stunning 16:9 HD display. Capable of displaying 1080p HD video at full resolution, the display features a LED backlight and IPS panel technology for superior image quality. The iMac sports a sleek aluminum and glass industrial design, with a matching wireless slimline aluminum keyboard. Apple's innovative wireless Magic Mouse is included for cursor control, giving desktop users the same powerful multi-touch input capabilities that are found in Apple notebook trackpads -- in a desktop mouse form factor.
The built-in FaceTime HD camera hides discreetly above the LCD screen, giving you ready access to a webcam for Internet chat and conferencing. It will let you make video calls to other Mac users with the included FaceTime app, as well as to anyone with an iPhone 4 or an iPod touch model with a built-in camera.
The iMac features a Thunderbolt port. Thunderbolt is a high-speed interface that can move data at an amazing 10Gbps -- double that of USB 3.0. The Thunderbolt port doubles as a display output -- it shares the same physical form factor as a Mini DisplayPort. You can use it to daisy-chain up to six devices, so you'll be able to connect high-speed external storage and an external LCD display via the same port!
The system also features USB 2.0 and FireWire-800 ports for device connectivity. An SDXC slot is built-in as well, allowing you to download pictures from your digital camera directly into iPhoto.
iLife '11 has a complete suite of digital creativity applications. Easy enough for anyone to use, iLife will help you edit your home movies, organize digital photos, and compose original music. The system is also powerful enough to run Apple's professional-level applications, perfect for those who are ready to move up to the next level of creative software.
The computer is powered by a quad-core 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor for superior performance. It boasts 4GB of RAM,a 1TB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, integrated speakers, and the SuperDrive DVD burner. The glossy 21.5" widescreen display is powered by an AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPU with 512MB of memory.
The 64-bit OS features Time Machine backup, which automatically backs up system data to an external hard drive. It also features intuitive Cover Flow navigation, the powerful Spotlight search tool, and Quick Look document preview. You'll be able to use Boot Camp to run Windows on your Mac.
The iMac is a strikingly elegant computer that will feel at home on virtually any desk.

After over a week of calling around trying to find the new 2012 iMacs, I started looking into the 2011 model... Some research led me to the reasons I decided to go with this one rather than the brand new. For me, my biggest use of the computer coming from a MBP was to have a photo editing machine, and an all in one center for my computing needs. The new 2012 model in a goal only to make the computer as thin as it can be basically, moved some of the necessary to me items either out of the computer all together (optical drive) or inconvienient locations on the back (SD card slot).
The 2011 uses the sandy bridge structure rather than the ivy bridge for the '12. I read into the update from sandy to ivy, and the concensus was that the sandy update on the 2011 is far more significant than the ivy on the 2012. This doesn't mean too much unless you're pushing the computer to the edge with video editing, and even then it may be a moot point.
The fact that the 2011 has the optical drive on the right side, the SD slot on the side underneath the disk slot I think it's an absolutely perfect machine. Display is great, the 7200 RPM 1TB drive is very quick, and even though I didn't think I'd like the wireless keyboard, I found that it's great. No number pad on the right side, but that's fine coming from a laptop user. The mouse is perfect.
BH Photo is the only place I like to bring my business to when they have something I want. Shipping is very fast, they pack things very carefully, and I plan to continue shopping here for photo needs as well as computer needs now.

Received product quickly from B & H. Unfortunately the hard drive was messed up-spent 2 hours working with Apple techs and was finally advised to return it to B & H-Everyone I worked with was courteous and professional. Now I know where those refurbished units come from. Hope to receive a replacement soon--takes about 2 weeks to ship back and receive replacement. I had the option of taking it to Apple shop for repair, but to get a new unit it had to go back to original seller-had it come from an Apple store they might have traded it out on the spot, but only if it came from an Apple outlet. Hopefully the next one will work-I shipped the last one back the day after I received it. B & H was great to work with on the return.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer:
When I needed a new iMac last month, I was tempted to purchase the latest model released in late 2012, with it's slick ultra-thin looks and latest port configurations. But the new model doesn't have the SuperDrive DVD drive or the ability to expand memory after purchase, which made it very unattractive. While we may soon get to the point where we don't need physical media, I'm not there yet, and didn't want to increase the price of my purchased by adding an external drive and paying full price for the memory to be installed. This 2012 iMac is exactly what I needed and wanted, is very comparable to the latest model in terms of specs and speed, but has the SuperDrive and expandable memory. I'm delighted.

I have always owned Macs . I started with a Performa 2600 desk top Originally 25 years ago since then only Macs ... an see thru Imac then an eMac . I recently bought a used Macbook G$ as well 1 GB Ram and IGHZ processor with WiFi . Its been 10 years since the eMac and my goodness what a difference . I ordered this one because it had a DVD player burner still built in for burning Photos since I also just bought a new Nikon Digital D800 camera at almost the same time . I ordered it with 4 gb Ram ( figuring I could add more later if I find it lacking) and ITB hard drive . (Standard on this model ) It also came with a 1BG Ethernet connection. As I wanted to hardwire it instead of using WiFi which is always limited in bandwidth . This came with quad core i% thought I'd need the i& but this computer is incredibly fast in every way whether I'm processing digital photos or surfing the net . I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and wished I'd not waited so long to replace the old eMac with 1GB Ram and only a 750mhz processor .Yes very very happy .

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer:
I am retired and use this strictly for my personal use, email, internet, games, word processing, etc. I always had a PC but decided to try the IMAC after my PC crashed hoping that it would last longer. I like the fact that I can enter text onto PDF documents that I scan into the computer. I also like the fact that I can run DVDs on the computer. The 21.5 inch screen is very beautiful and vibrant. Since I've never had an Apple computer I have to use the tutorials a lot but they are very helpful and I will probably be on board in a few months.
Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer:
This is my twelfth year with apple computers. The iMac represents an upgrade from my eight year old Mac Pro, and I must say it is an improvement in every way. I am a professional photographer using Photoshop almost exclusively. However, I find the built-in editing capability of the iMac is often a simple and effective short cut to what I want. I would recommend this computer to the most serious user. Getting used to the wireless keyboard took some time. My hands are large and the board is half the size of the old Mac Pro keyboard. Getting accustomed to the new operating system is no hill for a former Mac user. My advice: skip next months payment on the boat and buy one of these things. You'll get more pleasure from it.

I have to say that I was a bit nervous switching to a Mac when all my life all I had ever used is a PC. I have had it almost two weeks and it is a dream, my whole family loves it. I chose a Mac because I do photography and I wanted a good computer to edit photos with and to do school projects on for my teenage son and me (who is back in college). The 21.5" screen is like looking at a TV screen. Also I can't say enough about B&H, I ordered it and 4 days later it was at my door all packed nice and safe ready for me to plug-in and use. I will use B&H from now on for purchases like this because the customer service is so good and dependable.

B&H shipped the next day after purchase. B&H triple boxed the iMac and the airport extreme I purchased the next day. iMac out of the box runs smooth, it has a gorgeous display. I was concerned a little about whether the 21.5 would be large enough, but it proved to be perfect. The quad core runs everything perfectly. The footprint even after Toast platinum, Office 2011 suite, divx, and other things is still under 20gb of disk space. So, for anyone wondering if they will have enough space with the 500gb, yes you will. Get an inexpensive external if you plan to store videos, etc. Overall great deal!

Only with Apple can you literally take the computer out of the box, plug it in and viola... you're up an running. This was our second iMac and the best darn computer we've had so far. The graphic resolution is fabulous! I can see why Apple kept the overall design for the last few iterations because aesthetically it is beautiful. I absolutely love the "Magic Mouse".Rather than going with a MacBook Pro... we chose to get this iMac with the new iPad and still came out ahead on price. So great value!Note that with Lion, you no longer get iDVD or AppleWorks. However, you can get iDVD and iWorks for pretty cheap at the [@].It's fast, fast, fast!

First I had the iPhone and then I got an iPad - once I had both of those items, I just had to pull the trigger on the iMac....a desktop fits into the way I use computers (have a laptop through work too), so these beauty rounds out my Apple iCloud beautifully. I have only had it a week, but I'm already taking full advantage of the integration of all my Apple products -- all in such an elegant and sleek package. I have great computing power for my needs (pictures, documents and Internet) and have no more spaghetti cords behind my desk! I'm very pleased -- I installed extra RAM and Microsoft Office for Mac on my own with no hassles.
A very satisfied customer here -- and got a great deal from B&H!

So great value!Note that with Lion, you no longer get iDVD or AppleWorks. However, you can get iDVD and iWorks for pretty cheap at the [@].It's fast, fast, fast!

I love my new computer! And I got a great price at B and H. You can't beat a [$] apple care plan....that is what sold me.

We use these in our accounting office. Never a problem, but I must add that the new lion software seems to be a little quirky . Time will tell.
