I purchased this drive to upgrade a new MacBook Pro. The performance improvement is incredible. Applications start instantaneously, the computer cold boots in about 15 seconds. I benchmarked it at 250 MB/s writes and 500 MB/s reads.
Because there is no moving parts, it made the computer completely silent during normal operation. Not sure if it had any affect on battery life.
The drive was very easy to install and I have not encountered any problems with it so far.

I recently purchased 2 M4 ssd drives from B & H who are great by the way, I brought a 512GB and a 128GB, fitted the 128 to my 4 year old dell fps laptop which is now running better than ever but the 512gb was a different story.
I cloned the drive which I thought went ok but when I tried to install to my 17" MBP (2011) it failed so I assumed the clone hadn't worked properly so tried to reformat the drive but with no joy, in the end I called Crucial tech support who suggested a few things that didn't work so called back and they said it must be faulty so to return it to B & H but due to B & H holidays and time restrictions I had I didn't have time to do that so asked if I could send it directly to them and they send me a new drive which they said they would do but I had to purchase the new drive ($850) and then once they had received the old drive back they would refund the money.
I sent the faulty drive back via UPS which cost me $28 and then a few days later received the new replacement drive. As soon as I saw the new drive I knew something was up as it was just in a plain white box unlike the previous new drive and when I opened it up it was confirmed they had sent me a refurbished drive and not a new one.
Due to work commitments and I didn't have time to complain about so went ahead and cloned the drive and installed and all work perfect so very happy with that. They received the fatly drive back and refunded the money the next day which was good but when I emailed to mention that I had received a refurbished drive and not a new one they didn't want to know and just said it was as good as the original which I am sure it is but that's not the point, I paid for a brand new product which is not what I now have install in my laptop so I am a little annoyed.
I have previously purchased refurbished ssd drives direct from crucial at a very discounted price and have been very pleased with them but I didn't get this as a discounted price, I have paid full price.
I am very happy with the product and the speed difference on start up and opening programs is amazing although the 4 year old dell laptop running Vista actually starts up faster now than my 2011 MBP which is a little annoying.
I would recommend an ssd drive to anyone who wants to get more done but maybe try other brands!!!

A follow up to my previous 5 star review: Two weeks later this upgrade is looking not so good. When first installed, my MacBook Pro was noticeably faster, the spinning beachball was mostly gone, and my monitor problems seemed to be solved. Now after 2-3 weeks I'm having more frequent beachballs (mosly during finder operations, copying and moving files) and the monitor problems have returned. I have more free drive space, so I'm not sure why this is happening unless it is a fragmentation issue...though there is no such thing as defragmentation for Mac.

Great upgrade for MacBook Pro 13". Computer is noticeably faster. Also, upgrading to this drive has fixed the problem with Thunderbolt Dual Link adapter. I thought I needed a new monitor, but intermittent snow and black screen was apparently a processing speed issue. This drive was definitely cheaper than a new monitor. Still get a beach ball occasionally, but mostly that is eliminated too.

I bought this to speed up my 17" MacBook Pro (early 2011). With 16GB of RAM installed and this SSD, the computer runs fairly fast consistently. It is an improvement overall the previous drive (Seagate Momentus XT) although not by a large margin.
The installation was simple. However, to ensure the Mac OS Recovery Partition is brought over to the new drive, be sure use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the disk.

Comments about Crucial 512GB m4 SSD 2.5" Solid State Internal Drive:
I need a SSD for my Blackmagic Cinema Camera. I ordered this item because of the price and i've seen some good reviews. I brought this drive, formatted it, I started having problems soon after. I exchanged this for another of the same type, thinking it was just a bad drive. Another note: the ssd runs hot! The second one I got, I had simliar problems, so I decide to call Crucial technical support. NOte: I thought them the ssd is very hot, they said it shoudl be warm, not hot. Day one with technical support, they tried to trouble shoot it, so finally they emailed me some instructions to do and they were closing. For the troubleshooting, i had to have it connected to my imac for hours/overnight. So I did the troubeshooting they instructed of me, with no good luck. I called them the next day with the bad news, and they tried to further troubleshoot, still no luck. Still because the price was so cheap, i called b&h to exchange it again for the ssd of the same type. This time, the ssd was working, after i formatted it. Cool. Days later while teaching basic filmmaking to high school age children as an after-school program. The students were filming using the Blackmagic CInema Camera. For some reason, the camera stopped recognizing the ssd. When i went over to it, the camera was very hot, abnormally. After the ssd cooled down, the camera was able to recognize the ssd again. So i took that ssd, connected it with my imac, the ssd were behaving abnormally, not being recognize by my imac. So I called this ssd in again for exchange for the OWC Extreme Pro 6G. I haven't gotten the ssd yet,, but i researched and found that this drive were excellent with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. This is much more expensive for less memory. But I choose reliability or cheap prices.
I gave it one star, because I had to, but it deserves no stars!!!!

I installed this in a 2009 MacBook Pro. I cloned the existing drive onto the Crucial SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner and then replaced the existing drive with the SSD. The MBP is only capable of 3 gb/sec and the Crucial SSD negotiates the correct link speed. I have had no issues except that my other computers seem very slow now. Startup for the MBP from pushing the start button to login screen is about 10 sec. From login to a usable desktop is 2-3 seconds. Some files load before the dock icon bounces once. This has some practical advantage because I often work with many files and with the Crucial SSD one can close them to get them out of the way and then reopen them in a second or two. I will not comment on durability after less than two weeks, but otherwise this drive is terrific.

I bought two M4 512GB SSD's for a new Late-2012 Mac Mini. Drives arrived quickly and were well-packaged.
Having heard that upgrading drive firmware is essential, yet not as easy via Mac as it is via PC, I visited Crucial's website, dowloaded and upgraded firmware from a Windows PC before I installed them in my Mac. Crucial's firmware upgrade software is much easier to use with M4 drives than it is for Crucial's earlier SSD products -- no reboot required: everything runs wtihin Winodws. Took only 5 minutes for each drive.
I replaced my factory 1TB 5400RPM drive with both of these M4 SSD's using OWC's "Drive Doubler" kit. OWC's line video and the printed instructions that accompanied their "kit" made the installation pretty easy for someone who's previously installed and upgraded PC hardware.

Reasonably fast ship. Installed in MacBook Pro Mid 2009 13" which is a SATA II machine. The SSD drive is capable to negotiate at 3 Gigabit which is the max my Mac can do. (I tried OCZ Vertex 4 and had to return it because it could only negotiate at 1.5 Gigabit). Speed is reasonably fast. Highly recommended.
Note that the SSD drive should be able to get up to 6 Gigabit in a SATA III environment. The cap on 3 Gigabit is due to my "old" Mac's SATA II.
