Let me start off by saying that I have used this lens on a Canon T3i which has a crop factor of 1.6.
I am currently going to school for film, and this lens is easily my go to lens for filming. This is a bright lens, and completely manual. This makes it wonderful for filming purposes. I consider this to be my cinematic lens, as it is equivilent to about a 50mm on my Canon T3i, and produces super sharp and accurate images. On a 1.6 crop sensor if is about a 50mm lens which is a great focal length for any shoot, which is why I find myself using it 90 percent of the time. With the manual apeture ring, I can dial in all my setting quick and easily. No pushing buttons on my camera, plus being able to de-click the lens allows for quick on the go apeture changes.
This lens is also great for street photography, or any photography for that matter. The lens is a great focal length, not to wide and not too telephoto. Plus the depth of field scale on the lens allows you to prefocus before pointing your camera at your subject...a very big positive for street photography! The depth of field scale also helps with film as well, but usually you will have time to focus anyways.
With that being said, you have to realize that this lens is a fully manual lens! For some, like me and other filmakers, this is a big positive. However, if you are not comfortable with fully manual and no autofucus then that could be more of a negative for you. So keep that fact, your skill level and comfort level in mind when looking at this lens.
Over all this is a great lens, and I used it about 90 percent of the time when I was filming a short film which took place both indoors and out doors. If you are looking for a professional quality prime lens, this has to be in your bag or on your camera. I would buy it again, and I plan on buying more from Rokinon.

I bought this lens a few weeks ago and it was fantastic! Sharp, fast, smooth focusing, and inexpensive! but yesterday I was on a shoot and the weather turned on us and it lightly rained for about 15 mins. we ran as fast as we could to the car, but still, the lens suffered from internal water damage, not covered by the warranty.

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
I'm using this for video on my t3i. Rokinon has quickly become my favorite company thus far. Out of my 5 lenses (2 rokinon) this is by far my favorite lens to use. The the crop sensor t3i this is the perfect all around lens. As most I started off with the cheap canon 50mm 1.8.... which I loved, till I used the rokinon 35mm 1.4.
I use this lens mainly for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The low light performance is amazing! I don't understand technically how it works, but I wish 1.8 was an optional fstop on the lens, instead it goes from 1.4 to 2.0.
The build quality of the rokinon lenses are amazing! Nice heavy feel, metal construction. The focus ring is butter, tight, yet soooo smooth!! I often shoot with the Canon 17-55 2.8 (almost three times the price) and the rokinon feels soooo much better to use, makes the Canon feel like a toy
Video quality has been great, even inside club setting at 1.4 and ISO 800. Just remember rokinon is manual focus ONLY! I use it for photos occasionally, pics come out amazing.... Super nice bokeh, but I wouldn't recommend if you shoot any moving subjects. For video you really have to know how to pull focus, especially below 2.8
Bottom line... For video, BUY THIS LENS!!!

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
I use this lens on two cameras: Sony Nex 6 and Fuji X-E1. I get great results on both systems. Note this is a fully manual lens..no autofocus.
Pros:- Excellent image quality even at F1.4
- Easy to focus using Sony's Focus peaking and magnification and Fuji's magnification.
- Works great at very close distances (around a foot) or so even though it's not a macro.
- solid build and feel
Cons: quite heavy and no tripod mount.

I've only had this a couple weeks and it's already my favorite lens. I'm using a Canon 60D, and had been using a 50mm 1.8 cheapo..this is obviously a much higher quality lens, and it shows. Oh and I chose free shipping and it still made it to me in two days.

Thats right video shooters! If you put this Rokinon side by side with the canon equivalent, the only difference you'd feel is the weight of the extra cash you saved in your pockets.
I don't know how they did it,but they did it! Very sharp, very fast, beautiful Bokeh and all in all good construction.
I use this on a crop sensor so its 50mm equivalent, and I'm more than satisfied with its performance to say the least.
Don't think twice, buy it!

This lens is great for filming. The manual focus ring is a must if you use a follow focus.
If you want a lens for photography, you should go with the Canon 35mm that has a automatic focus. But if you don't need it, you'll save a lot of money if you go with the Rokinon.

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
I just bought this lens a couple of weeks ago so I've taken quite a few pictures so far. First thing I have to say about it is that this lens takes super sharp pictures if you really know how to use it. I also own a couple of Canon L series lenses and this Rokinon is almost as good but much cheaper. If you are not used to shoot manually you may be frustrated at the beginning understanding correlation between ISO, aperture, speed, etc. Focusing correctly may also be a challenge, but I recommend you start by shooting with the LCD screen ON, instead of using the viewfinder, this will help your focus faster and much more accurately, I use the live view mode in my Canon 7D and zoom in with the digital screen for a better focusing, and I get super sharp pictures with stunning colors.
This lens is rock solid quality, it feels very strong and the focus ring feels as smooth as an L series lens. I have not tested for video, but I'm sure it will produce excellent results even though is a little too heavy. The bokeh is superb for the price but the 1.4 corresponds to a 1.8 of my Canon lenses. This Rokinon is very good to take pictures or shoot video at night or in low light conditions, ans also for taking portraits.
If you are looking for a professional grade lens, and you are willing to spend some time practicing your totally manual skills, than this lens is for you. You won't be disappointed and you will save money. This is a must have lens for semi-pro or pro photographers.

Well, this is it...the Rokinon (Samyang, Bower, Vivitar, etc...) lens that made everybody sit up and take notice. For good reason, too!
For half a grand, there is nothing else that compares. This is very sharp, extremely fast and well-built.
If you value this focal length and can live without autofocus, this is a no-brainer!

I use this for video with a Canon 7D. I am very saavy about the manual controls of the camera and lens. I got great shots in very low light (clubs) and outdoors during the day. I would reccomend this to anyone who knows a couple things about the Canon 7D's functions!! (thumbs up!!) BOKEH IS SUPERIOR!! NOt to mention PRICE!!!

Normally I use to low light conditions, like in photo and movies projects. But it works very well in every situations that you don't need to adjust aperture and focus quickly. I special like the focus.

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
This is a great lens, and it is really sharp. However, over time a giant brown blob is developing on one of the lens elements in the middle of my lens. It looks like glue that is darkening with time. At the moment it doesn't affect the image, but for sure the resale value is gone. Also, I fear that the blob may grow bigger over time. Save your money!

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
The first lens I bought was the canon 50 f1.8. Like people said it's the best value lens. If I'm doing photography I would have stuck with the nifty fifty. However I like doing video. So I need a lens that have a better focus ring. I also want a normal lens for my apsc sensor since 50mm is practically a telephoto lens on a crop sensor. My choice comes down to canon 28mm f 1.8 sigma 30mm f 1.4, and this lens the rokinon 35mm 1.4. I didn't hear good review of the 28 so I dismiss that. There were great reviews of sigma 30 but it doesn't work for full frame so in the end i got the rokinon 35mm. I give it a 4 star because I think it's kinda pricey. I would recommend this for people who do video because the focus ring is so, so smooth

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
Initially purchased the Nikon mount of this lens for Canon DSLR cameras. Reason being I could use the lens on any Nikon mount cameras as well and all I needed was an adaptor to make it work on the Canons. To cut things short, the lens is almost identical with the Canon mount EXCEPT for the direction of focus. The Nikons focus the opposite direction to that of the Canons and that to me is a major issue since it can ruin a shot (video) and a second take will then be required.
Anyway, I ordered the same lens but in Canon mount this time round. The lens soon arrived and the first impression was its solid built and ultra smooth focusing ring which was the reason why this purchase was made. The Nikon version is 100% identical so the mentioned traits apply to the Nikon mount version as well. Shooting at 1.4 and compared to Canon's 35/1.4 L saw really not much difference in terms of sharpness. Bokeh-wise, it was actually a little more appealing but that is subjective.
In a nutshell, this lens is extreme value for money and will work wonders for you if DSLR video is your main area. If you intend to use it for stills such as street photography where AF is really desirable then the Canon 35/1.4L may be a wiser choice albeit at a much higher price with perhaps AF being the only advantage.

Quite happy with this purchase. Was a little concerned because the manual aperture was sticking (when clicking from 1.4 to 2.0). It may have been temperature related coming from the cold shipping truck to my warms hands because it hasn't been a problem since.

Comments about Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens for Canon:
Very sharp lens, not as sharp in the center as the Canon 35mm L but mid frame and edges are sharper at f1.4. Less vignetting too.
Manual focusing at F1.4 through viewfinder is not that difficult on full frame, just get a focusing screen.
