Bought this for my Canon Vixia HF G10 video camera, which has a mini shoe at the very back. I need to mount an Azden dual channel wireless receiver and a SunPak LED light.
The hot shoe extension is 8 in. long and rotates and slides fore and aft for easy adjustment. I use it with a Pearstone mini shoe adapter. To prevent the whole unit from being front-heavy when loaded, I attached a small wooden leg that rests upon the camera top and it affixed with a bit of velcro to keep it from sliding. Works great. (as an alternative, I might look at the Opteka X-Grip (B&H # OPXGRIPBK) along with this extension. Made of strong plastic, so it's very light, but solid.

Like Steadistone Productions said, it flexes. I'm torn about this "feature". When mounted on the camera hotshoe, I suppose it's a good thing since the "shock" or movement is not carried back to the hotshoe and thereby sparing it from the stresses. It doesn't flex quite like the old Tacoma-Narrows bridge so it's not that unprofessional so to speak.

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
I'm not usually the one to write a review unless the product is on either end of the spectrum. Unfortunately, this one is on the bad side. Perhaps i didn't read everything clearly but the extension is primarily plastic. Not very strong ones either. I mounted two Rode NTG-2 and a H4n recorder and it wabbles a lot because the plastic bends and flexes. Anyone looking for extensions of this type, I highly recommend a metal one.
Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
Nice long extension, but the plastic material didn't give it enough stability to do the job desired. Looking for the same piece in metal

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
I use this extension so that I can have a top light plus 2 wireless ENG mic's on my camera for man on the street type interviews where I want better audio. The camera is set up in a way that horizontal mounting of this extension does not work. I simply unscrewed the base of the rail, set a repositioning where the rail is off set and runs in line with the body of the camera and things work great. Sturdy enough to handle the weight of all my toys (though I do plan to balance as I load it).

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
It's light and not a super build quality, but it's very decent for the price and does what it's supposed to do. Just be careful of not overcharing the bracket with too heavy accessories, as the build quality is a bit limited to support heavier items.

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
I cannot believe this cheap piece of plastic costs $. We bought this to support two very small on-camera lights and it can barely hold one, much less too. When you try to tighten the hot shoes to it, the dials just turn and turn and keep "clicking" past the contact with the extension. There has to be a better quality alternative out there, but unfortunately B&H does not offer one.

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
I like this thing but its made out of plastic which makes it a little to flexable. The cost is way to high for a piece of plastic as well. I mounted a 7 inch monitor on it and it floped around all over. But, Im keeping it because I found another use for it. If this were made out of aluminum it would be GREAT!

I needed to attach my Zoom H4n and my Rode Vidmic to my camera. I saw this and thought I would give it a try. It works great for what I needed. I wouldn't put to many heavy items on it because it's not metal, but it works fine.

I was a little skeptical buying this, since some of the reviews mentioned that it's plastic and can flex a bit. It is, and it does... but still I count it a usable acquisition. The construction is sturdy enough that I can mount a Senn wireless receiver, Tascam dr100, and small Azden mic without any flex. It fits in my Canon T2i shoe mount, and also has a 1/4" tap so I can mount it on a light tripod. Don't expect this thing to dampen any sound if you record on a device attached to it, though.

I use this for recording conference interactions. Great: I can fit 3 different items on this hot shoe extender, wireless receiver, camera light, boom mic. Not so great: The boom mic tends to wobble quite a bit.

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
The 20 cm Rycote Hot Shoe Extension can get you out of a bind but obviously not sufficiently field tested. Good idea, poor executiion. The device is effectively an extruded piece of plastic that will allow you to attach hot shoe based devices like Senn wireless, Mic iso mounts, LED lights, and so on but way too much flex to be usable or professional looking. Will use in a bind. Possibly retrofit with a metal support bar to eliminate flex. Dedolight has a good hotshoe multiplier but does not have the low profile of this one.

Comments about Rycote Hot Shoe Extension:
I needed an extension to mout with a 1/4 thread a top of a light stand for my Zomm h4n and the reciver for my G3 wireless. I first bought the 4 inch version of this but quickly found the two could not sit side by side.
This one is perfect. Both units sit firmly on the unit not too close to the ends. Light weight yet tough eneough to handle the rigors of run and gun wedding filming.
