The Optoma TH1060P HD DLP Projector packs a lot of advanced features backed with strong specs and cutting-edge technology into a surprisingly affordable package. Its 4500 lumens of projection power combined with its 2500:1 contrast ratio and HD (1920 x 1080) resolution means it will provide a tack-sharp, vivid image in medium to large rooms and even those with high ambient light challenges.
Another of the TH1060P's key features is its Texas Instruments DMD DLP chip. This 0.65" chip processes not just the three primary colors (red, green and blue), that all other chips work on but also their complements: cyan, magenta and yellow. As a result, colors are so clear and lifelike that Texas Instruments calls its latest version of the technology "BrilliantColor". DLP chips with BrilliantColor increase the brightness of colors by 50 percent vs. DLP chips without it. An added advantage of this chip is that it requires no filter that has to be periodically cleaned and replaced, an operation that can be risky in ceiling mounted installations.
The projector's wide connectivity includes two HDMI, RS-232 and USB for mouse control, as well as monitor loop-through. An RJ-45 connector is also included for control of the projector or several of them, remotely over a network. And it's compatible with Creston RoomView technology which adds a wide variety of network controls. As far as audio is concerned, the 3W sound system is sufficient enough.
The TH1060P is world-ready thanks to its auto-switching 100 - 240 V AC power supply and compatibility with NTSC, PAL and SECAM color systems. It's also compatible with PC and Mac resolution and frequency combinations so it's ideal for laptop-based business presentations. Additionally, closed captioning is on board for noisy environments or for the hearing-impaired.
Lastly, once you've gotten used to the TH1060P's advanced features you wouldn't want it to take an unannounced leave of the premises. There's a Kensington lock, password protection and a security bar to prevent that from happening.

After considering several other models and brands of projectors marketed as "home theater" projecotrs, I got this Optoma TH1060P which is marketed by them in their business class - even though its use for me is purely home theater. It has every capability of, for example Optoma's HD20, but alot more inputs and outputs and a much higher lumens rating. The strong lumens ratimg for me is a big positive as I do not have a fully light controlled room. I did have a concern that perhaps the 2500:1 contrast rating would not be enough for good black levels but after getting this, find that is absolutely not the case. Blacks are excellent and more than adequate.I am projecting onto a Draper Luma 106" diagonal contrast grey screen from about 13 feet.Image quality is fantastic, I have seen no RBE (Rainbow Effect) and none of the more than 20 people who have been over seen movies and sports have noticed it either. I have attached here a couplke of screenshots taken with a camera on a tripod. This is an awesome unit and I would but again without hesitation.I did a more extensive review including alot more screenshots from movies, taken in both daytime and nighttime in a thread at the AVS Forums. One can find that by googling with the key words "Optoma TH1060P - 4500 lumes - Why is there such little buzz"

I work in a venue that rents rooms and sometimes A/V needs to a variety of clients. We usually set up the projector and leave it ready to go. However with these you need the display device connected in order to modify the display settings. So if the last user had it on 16:9 I can't change that until the next user plugs in their laptop. Also, the throw specs appear to be for 16:9, so for a 4:3 image I need a much longer distance than I thought I would when purchasing. It ends up almost negating the benefit of the greater lumens when compared with our short throw 2500 lumen projector.Anyway, it would be good for a fixed application where price is paramount, but it lacks the flexibility we need.

I replaced a Panasonic pt-ax100u. It is mounted in my living room which gets a fair amount of light during the day. The panasonic would get washed out pretty bad. The TH1060P is a light cannon. I can watch on a sunny afternoon. The 1080p gives a better image too. When watching movies at night I find the image to be really good. If you are using it in a living room or other non light controlled room you won't be disappointed. Don't let the low contrast scare you off I don't see anything wrong with the black quality especially at night.

We use 2 of these, twice a day in school presentations.....They have had some issues with alignment or proper rendering of the video signal - one cuts off about an inch along the left side of the screen and 1 is fine? They get the same signal from a video amp.... strange.Aside from those minors, they have been great units.

I used this projector in a art gallery setting to display a live pottery making demonstration. It was a sitdown diner engagement where not all attendees would have a clear view of the wheel or the intricate details of the pottery carvings. I was able to connect the projector directly to my HD camera via a HDMI cable.
The projector was easy to setup and detected the 1920x1080p signal right away. The room was lit well, but the projected image was bright with great contrast. The projector was quiet, which was important, so that un-mic'd artists did not have to compete with projector noise.
It also comes with a decent padded case

Super pleased. We needed to get a projector for outdoor video. This works great with how bright it is. Our first use was for a short film shoot that required an image to be projected onto a man's chest. We were concerned that it would not be bright enough. We ended up having to put an ND filter on the projector lens... to dim it down. Which was awesome to be doing, rather then wishing it was brighter to show up.

We bought 2 for our new conference rooms, they look great on the wall. Nice and clear picture. It's quiet however it blows really hot. We're going to have to rig some sort of cooling fan to help prolong the life of the unit I'm afraid. Haven't hooked up the second one yet. My kids came to the office on the weekend with me and had a blast playing the xbox with the projector.

We use the projector at our church to project the lyrics of the songs and to project the pastor's sermon including clipart/picture backgrounds. Relativly new to the projector world. I have an InFocus X1 (OLD) for the kids to play their Wii on. In a dark room, it works fine. I wanted a BRIGHT HD projector to use during the football season. Primary use is in our den with alot of ambient light. No problem for the Optoma. I realize that there are alot of experts who review high dollar home theatre projectors, but I need LUMENS for my high ambient light situation. I compared the few reviews I could find on HD projectors with over 4000 lumen and under a budget of $1500. I am projecting onto a budget 135" diag screen with a throw distance of 18 feet. It works well with all of the recessed lights in our den on, even better when they are dimmed. Lights from the next room are not a problem. I know that there are probably better "home theatre" projectors out there, but for the budget and high ambient light situation, this one has proved very worthy in my real world use. Bright mid level HD projector for high ambient light situations. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!
