In searching for a well-made USB 3.0 Card Reader, I found there was little to choose from. My original intention was to buy a new Internal Card Reader that would be USB 3.0 Capable. After the usual trial and error purchases I made, and the products, a USpeed USB 3.0 Card Reader/Dashboard and an Ultra USB 3.0 Card Reader/Dashboard failed for one reason or another (more about that, later), I found an External USB 3.0 Card Reader at B&H. Leave it to B&H to come to the rescue! Finally, a quality-built product that does what I need; it works! And work well, it does! My old USB 2.0 Card Reader would take about 15 minutes to transfer approximately 4GB of RAW images to my computer. Using this DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader by Sonnet, I can now transfer approximately 1.5GB per minute! Can one love some inanimate object? Maybe so! This equipment would qualify. I still wanted an Internal Card Reader, though. I mentioned I would come back to previous products that are not worthy of your hard-earned money. Both the USpeed USB 3.0 Card Reader/Dashboard and the Ultra USB 3.0 Card Reader/Dashboard (neither of which were purchased from B&H) have CF Card Readers that do not work, no matter how you might try to configure them. In fact, both of those products utilize some truly cheap parts. What's worse is they also expect you to insert your CF Card inverted (upside down), yet this is not mentioned anywhere in their manual (if you can call it that) or anywhere on the manufacturer's website. Furthermore, and specifically, the USpeed Card Reader actually damaged one of my CF cards, which in turn, damaged my camera's pins; and the manufacturer of the USpeed Card Reader refused to resolve my issue, even though they admitted in writing that they were aware that the CF Card Reader design is flawed. In case you are wondering what company would make and sell such a product, it is ANKER. Avoid them! Avoid those products all costs! BUY the DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader by Sonnet! The DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader by Sonnet WORKS PERFECTLY, right out of the box! It cost a bit more, but this is what you pay for, and what you expect. But I still wanted an Internal Card Reader. I continued searching for one, when I finally found one that looked like it may be well-made. Just like the DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0, the AFT Internal Card Reader is a true USB 3.0 Card Reader, and not just packaged to make you believe it's USB 3.0. Buyers and owners of DSLR's, I want to point out that your CF cards insert fully into your camera's body. Once inserted, the CF card is safely out of harm's way. Your Card Reader should perform this way, too. Because of this, you are accustomed to how your CF card feels as you insert it. With the DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0, you can feel your CF card slide smoothly, deeply, and safely into the slot, then firmly seat. This is also true of the AFT Internal Card Reader. The CF Cards go in approximately 3/4 of the way in. This is good. Very good! On the other hand, when you try going the cheap-price route, bad, cheap Card Readers have very shallow slots, are upside down, and the pins are so close to the slot opening, it would be very easy to damage your CF Card or even the pins of the Card Reader. BEWARE! Worth noting: many of the available Card Readers available today, are still USB 2.0, but packaged with other ports, like a single USB 3.0 Port and maybe even an ESata Port. This becomes misleading when you're shopping for a USB 3.0 Card Reader because you may believe the Card Reader is also USB 3.0. Many times, it is not. Some are, though. Just make sure you understand what you are buying. It will save you a lot of grief. Understand the native connectors on your computer. Understand the cables you need. I now have two very good Card Readers. One is internal and one is external. Both are true USB 3.0 and perform very well. This review was supposed to be about the DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader by Sonnet. In my opinion, this is worthy of your consideration! It's a great product!

I am having issues with files not copying to my mac. I don;t know if it is the heat of our Bali location or the reader itself...I have a brand new MacBook Pro, so it can't be that, and it is happening to alll of my CF cards...Just not too sure about the reader itself.

Comments about Sonnet DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader:

I bought this at many warnings at possible corruption using cheaper card readers although I never had an issue. This device seems to work fine and is fast enough but for wanting it to sit on my desk permanently I would have preferred some weight. As it is now the cable it comes with I think is heavier than the device itself so putting in cards and especially taking them out is a two handed operation. So what some see as a plus I kind of see as a minus :-)

Comments about Sonnet DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader:

I needed a faster card reader that didn't take up much space. I had one that was cheap and it failed when I needed it most. This seems to be just what I needed and it's fast. The connecting cable is beefy and will hold up to being in the bag and wrapped up a lot. As long as it preforms as it has so far, I will be extremely happy with my purchase.

I have owned the Sonnet compact flash express card adapter for nearly 2 years it's worked hard and has been totally reliable. Now I have bought a Retina Macbook pro and needed a quick fix for my media reader. This reader gives me 2.5 gigs a minute transfer speed and has the Sonnet solid engineering look and feel to it. What is there not to like?

Comments about Sonnet DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader:

Comments about Sonnet DiO Pro CompactFlash and SDXC USB 3.0 Media Reader:

While I like the looks and solid build of this unit, there are two issues that make it disappointing.First, the rubber pads are too slick to effectively grip my wood laminate desk. This could be a problem if you don't have carpeting to save it from a fall.Second, and a bigger issue for me, is what I call the "inactivity" light. Unlike my past CF and SD readers (two USB 2.0 Lexars and one FireWire 400 Addonics), this unit has a light that only indicates power status. If you appreciate knowing when it's safe to remove your card from the reader after you eject it (i.e., when the activity light stops blinking on the reader) then I'd recommend purchasing a different unit.ck

I use it to transfer dozens of multi-gigabyte files per day from video cameras to the latest MacBook Pro with USB 3 ports. Speed is great! A native Thunderbolt card reader might be faster, but speed is already pretty much limited by the memory cards themselves, and the price is right.
