-On full frame, the 35mm field-of-view is the best standard lens. You can use this lens everywhere.
-Having a f/1.4 aperture on a 35mm lens on full frame lets you get shallow depth of field while still showing a wide angle, which can give really stunning and really unique photos.
-This lens is amazing. The build quality is as good as Canon L lenses. The image quality exceeds the Canon, Nikon, Zeiss, and Leica 35mm f/1.4 lenses. It is sharp in the full frame corners at 1.4, which is unheard of for any lens. At 1.4, you have an incredibly sharp fast prime. Stop it down and you have an incredibly perfect landscape lens.
-It is manual focus and manual aperture. If you need to get quick shots, or if out-of-focus shots are unacceptable, this lens is a no-go. Otherwise, buy a special focusing screen (Eg-S) and you will be very happy with the quality of the MF ring and the control you get with such a manual lens.

I bought one of these last August. It was incredibly perfect: wide open until the diffraction limit was exactly the same sharpness, whether photographing stars at infinity or macros up close. Vignetting on aps-c was nil, sharpness was awesome, and there was no CA or purple fringing even wide open.

Then it rolled off my desk and fell a foot onto my padded office chair, and the rear focusing group became loose and decentered. I sent it to Bower, and they charged me 200 dollars to get it replaced.

But the (new, not refurbished) lens that they sent back was poor quality. The lens never sharpened up, even at f/8, and the focal plane was tilted: the lens focused farther away on the left side than on the right. I sent that one back too, and the third copy they sent me was passable, but still not nearly as sharp as my first copy.

Long story short: if you get a good one, be careful with it, because it's easily damaged.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

Very sharp focus, with a remarkably smooth focus ring. The exposure ring is clicked, which can be a boon to videographers, but there are many ways to de-click it, if needed. Highly recommended to both videographers and photographers alike.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

I bought this lens as a Christmas present to myself. I shoot stock footage with a Canon 5D Mark ii and I was looking for a fast, wide lens and I don't need automatic control. Even on my 24-105 Canon I usually turn off auto focus and adjust exposure myself.

This lens has a good feel to it. The lens cap fits a bit loose and is prone to falling off, though. Focus ring is tight. The aperture ring feels a bit sticky. I'm hoping it loosens up.

For image quality, the lens has been out on a couple of winter shoots with me and it delivers. Focus is crisp. I played around with a grad nd and I picked up some great shallow DOF shots, even on a snowy landscape. I think it's the perfect compliment to my kit. I'll be looking at the 85mm 1.4 next. I'd post a link to the shots, but it looks like I'm not allowed.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

This lens is absolutely amazing! I do more freelance photography than as a full time occupation, but I am usually working with people or young children. The one thing I failed to recognize about the specifications on this lens is that it does not have an auto focus option. Since I do more work with young children and people, manually focusing a lens on a constant moving subject is extremely difficult. I would recommend this lens to anyone doing more still life or architectural work since you would have the time to perfect a shot and focus on a still subject.

Unfortunately, I will be sending the lens back to get the same model, only in an auto focus. But luckily, B&H is very prompt with orders and sending them out for delivery! I received mine very quickly and was impressed with the service - which is something I cannot say for all companies such as these.

It's a great lens for video shooting.
              Great Bokeh, very sharp.

The focus ring is very precise, very long focus pulling.

You get ver narrow depths of field when used at 1.4 wich is usually what you aim for on these lenses.

I think there's nothing like it for this price range.

It's rather heavy if you are going to use it handheld for long time at awkward angles it can drain your arms.

The iris ring is way at the back and if you have big fingers is not the most confortable to use, but it's not a big issue.

Hood is poorly build. Not easy to put in or out quickly.

Exactly the same lens is sold with different brands (Rokinon, Samyang, etc.) so pick the cheapest one.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

I really love this lense. Pros: For a lens in the $[$] market, it is it's own King. Although it can open wide to 1.4, it is best at 2.5-4.0, providing clear sharpness. The fact that it can open to f/ 1.4 is quite impressive and the "bokeh" is amazing.Cons: It's HUGE! But it'll impress the crowd when pulled out! Although it is a manual, I prefer it that way.Over all, it gets the job done.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

It is exactly what it claims to be. A fast and sharp prime lens. If you can live without AF and don't want to spend $$$ this lens is right. Be aware though that on a Canon there is no communication between lens and camera, which means f-stop indicator will read 00 and also put that into your metadata (so keep track of what's manually selected on the lens) However, the camera internal lightmeter still works as advertised.

I am just starting out my photography business, so I am on a small budget, but badly needed a standard wide angle lens. I did not realize that this does not have an autofocus that works with my Canon 5D, mark iii, and although it does produce sharp images when you have the time to tweak it, you run the risk of blurry images when working with fast moving subjects, like children or rock bands. (I shoot a wide range of subjects.) So, yes I like this for landscapes, real estate, maybe product, but not people. You live, you learn, you get more expensive, higher quality lenses.

If you are shooting video I remcommend always using a tripod with this lens. The lens does not have a stabilizer. Smooth wide focus ring, helps a lot when shooting video. Other lenses usually have a thin focus ring and it's usually very loose.

Overall, great lens for the price!!

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

This is a great lens for the price. I have seen many others just like this for way more. I was worried when I saw how "cheap" this was. I received it and was very pleased that it is a heavy and durable lens. ONLY ONE ISSUE, once you get the lighting correctly set and start focusing with the eyepiece, it doesn't seem to come out perfectly focused even though it seems to be to your own eye. I tried many different things to fix this but I decided that you must use the live view feature (as I have on my Canon Rebel T3) to focus on your object or scene to perfect the focus. Other than that slight downside, it is truly a great lens. But a big investment that is worth it in the end.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

We're upgrading our studio's Panasonic AF100 with some new Canon-compatible lenses and it's hard to go wrong with this Bower. Lots of light pass-through to get a really shallow depth of field, and construction feels pretty solid. Right out of the box the images we're getting look brilliant.

Used on Canon 600D with consistent results. Once the manual focus is mastered, the true capabilities in low light are revealed. Video at dusk is possible and the focus ring smooth and quick to operate. The original lens hood clicks firmly into place. B&H delivered the lens and two filters to Australia in less than 10 days. I found other reviews on the B&H very useful for this lens using the i-pad app. I have used the lens with Hoya 77mm UV Pro Digital and original lens hood and with Polaroid 77 Neutral Density Fader Filer with no lens hood. The Bower branded copy of this lens is of high quality and a reasonable price. No chip, no motors, no zoom and manual aperture means a basic reliable lens with no limits to creativity.

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

Great build quality, smooth action, and at 1.4, image is still sharp. I found correctly focusing to infinity is actually just a hair before you get to the infinity marker on the lens itself.

for Photos, its a tad soft, but what lens is not soft at 1.4?!?!?!

Im too used to autofocus, I wouldnt recommend this for sports, as the autofocus is something im still working.

Im keepin this lens for sure

Comments about Bower 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Canon:

This lens is fantastic for video--beautiful for interviews, artsy fartsy b-roll, and anything else aided by selective focus. Great in low light, smooth focus wheel allows for easy pulling/racking (great drag--in a pinch I've been able to produce steady, totally usable shots without a FF), and feels nice and solid in construction. Some people might find it a tad heavy--but I tend to like a bit of weight. Works equally nicely as a 50ish mm on a crop-sensor body (I've tried with T3i and T2i, really happy with the results).

This isn't what I'd consider a great "run-and-gun" lens--it's not weatherproof, and the really striking footage I've gathered with it has come largely from well-planned/blocked shots. That's not to say it isn't versatile: looks good wavering around on a shoulder mount for your indie drama dialogue scenes. Gets sharp on those limpid eyes for the documentary interview. Picks up plenty of light for that driving-through-the-city-at-night shot in your music video. Used appropriately, this lens will add creative options to any production. The price point is such a great value...if you're not prepared to splurge 3-4 times as much for the Zeiss 35mm 1.4, I see no reason to look any further. This is the fast video glass you've been looking for.
