Comments about Korg monotribe - Analog Ribbon Station:

I wanted a portable synth / sequencer and this definitely fit the need. I'm not much of a computer music kind of guy but really like a hands on device with knobs switches and buttons for making music. This instrument is great for taking on long trips in the car, lunch brake at the office or just sitting on the couch messing around. The batteries last a long time and it's easy to use, I just wish it had some effects and more voices but I think I wish that of every instrument I've bought.

So I just upgraded the firmware to 2.0. The unit just improved greatly - with drum rolls and much more, plus the ability to sync to my Iphone (Synckontrol app) allowing me to set tempo, tap tempo, and swing the beat. Go to the Korg website, check it out. Update using quicktime at full blast volume.

Comments about Korg monotribe - Analog Ribbon Station:

I bought this unit to replace my Korg monotron, who's mini-headphone jack was dying. This one has a 1/4" instrument cable, great! I run it into a 4 track mixer, and send it through either a simple multi-effects box (EQ, reverb, delay) or a Korg KP-3. Great for jamming with pals. The good - love the drum sequencer, especially the ability to infinitely slow down or speed up tempo. Also enjoy the Record function for synth, allowing you to record short phrases and also modify these afterward. The bad - Drums get boring unless you have lo and hi pass filters to spice things up, and effects. The KP-3 allows me to get to drum heaven! The ugly - Although there are so many more options, I liked the sounds I was getting from my Monotron better. The LFO was cleaner on the Monotron also. And this unit doesn't allow me to perform smooth, long range pitch sweeps anymore. In Summary - I will play the heck out of this unit and love it, but if/when it dies I will replace it with a Monotron (and a backup) and a similar drum sequencer that has tap tempo and a few more sounds. Unless (please) they release an improved model before then.

Comments about Korg monotribe - Analog Ribbon Station:

Great little piece of kit that makes screaming monophonic analog lines against a simple set of percussion sounds. Some basic MIDI implementation and ability to tune the drums (eg. decay on the kick) would make this a 5/5 product, but otherwise it is great and has an excellent price.

Comments about Korg monotribe - Analog Ribbon Station:

The tribe offers the same hot synth sounds of the tron, but it also has the same 'pop' at the onset of each sound. The simplicity of the interface makes sequencing easy to learn and understand, and can be fun to explore within the limits of the tribe's 16 steps. experimentation can lead to swing and tonal changes through sequences using the LFO. clockable from any external tick, the tribe can be easily synched to other equipment (even a simple gameboy, pan a step tick to the left side and synth sounds out the right). while not quite the hackable powerhouse that many had been wishing for, the tribe feels rock solid and has real booty shakin power.
