My husband and I bought this for the GOTO feature, and to try out a small refractor. We alredy have a C-8, an Astroscan, and a couple of Dobsonians. For the price, we did not expect much in the way of performance. Were we ever surprised!. The GOTO feature is surprisingly accurate. The tracking worked fine and held the object centered over the course of an hour. Going through the menus was not difficult, and we were able to input our Latitude and Longitude to customize our location. But the biggest surprise was the quality of the optics. Using the 10mm eyepiece that came with the package, plus our own Barlow, the views of the Moon and Jupiter were outstanding, considering the aperture. Oh yes, the eyepieces provided are pretty good too. We will probably upgrade the plastic tripod, but at this price-point, we expected to do that anyway. Definitely a good buy! Thanks BH.

Let me start by saying I'm a 61 year old novice. I have this thing at my summer home and it's been hazy or raining every night, just about. Watch the DVD before setting it up - very helpful. The few times I had it outside (and wasn't under sttack by misquitos) my friend and I found it hard to use. We followed instructions and eventually aligned the scope and the finder. All the gyrations it did trying to locate stars didn't work all that well. Most important, the tripod is made for a midget. If you are looking anywhere above the horizon you need a short chair or alleve to be able to look into it. I don't know why for the marginal cost they don't includes a taller tripod. Also, I had understood from the ads that this thing talked to you and explained what you're seeing. I have yet to figure that out and hope that bhphotovideo didn't send the wrong item. So, we'll get out the 'Off' and take it down to a better location like the beach and see how things work there. So far, I'm not impressed.

This is a good telescope to get started with. The tripod is a bit short and makes it hard to use the finder. A bit hard to set up but works well if you do it right.

This is the first telescope I have ever owned. On the first night out my grandchildren and I found Saturn and could clearly see the rings and shadows. Huge thrill for all of us. The computer locator is not calibrated correctly and will take some work to get it right, but I am not worried about this. It could be something I am doing wrong. Watch the DVD that comes with the product to learn how to operate the computer controls. Manual tracking speed and movement will be crucial to keep up with the object your are looking at. Learn how to manually track slow. This hobby takes time and patience. All in all this is a good product for a beginner

This is a great instrument! Despite the inexpensive price tag, I am able to view Jupiter and its moons as well as make out great detail of Saturn's rings. I live in a very light polluted part of the city and I can make out these planets with ease as well as other stars. The red dot view finder works exactly as it should an once aligned you will always view exactly what the red dot is pointed at. The instructions to put the scope together are easy to follow and the staff at B&H, specifically Yossi in the telescope department, are friendly and helpful. I'm going back soon to purchase a solar viewer and can't wait!
