Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

I use mine for multi-mic recording. The preamps are nice and quiet with a reasonable amount of gain. The insert channels work well, I just wish there were more of them. I really like the versatility of the on-board DSP for customizing headphone mixes. On the down side, the lack of any real front-panel metering is annoying. Also, since they have DSP on board, it would be nice to have a compressor built in which could be used for tracking, but it is not there.

I really like this interface. Eight high-quality pre-amps and high-quality controls. THe software mixer also works very well. I didn't expect that the software includes echo for vocals. I use this interface with Logic Pro, Pro Tools, as well as other software. It works very well.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

I use the 8r semi-professionally in a home studio setting recording solo artists and full bands. I have had no trouble with it at all so far and it has simplified my workflow.

The routing is extremely intuitive and i've found myself taking advantage of the included routing and monitoring software more and more often. Using this software and the included verbs/delays has eliminated latency issues while tracking. It also lets me easily customize monitor mixes for each musician, allowing everyone to play their best.

The preamps sound good and don't over-color the sound or anything like that.

The Insert jacks are awesome for throwing in an outboard compressor or eq. i use it for using a compressor when tracking vocals and acoustic guitars in stereo.

All in all, i see nothing wrong with this product and have had nothing but good experiences with it.

Was looking for a cost effective interface and Ultra 8R deliver. Good sounding preamps for my regular instruments, also it have plenty of I/O. When ever I need my more expensive pre's I can still use the 8R through the 1/4" inputs on the back because they bypass the 8R preamps that way I don't have to rewire anything.

I use this product with pro-tools to record my own music but mainly for my drum set. It works quite well for the price paid. No issues with installation or use. Some occasional latency issues, but this is managed by decreasing my buffer size and bypassing effects.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

I purchased this product as an upgrade to the M-Audio Delta 1010LT - and it is a big improvement.

Nothing wrong with the Delta 1010LT (for my purposes) except that changing some of the input stuff required changing jumpers on the PCI card (inside my PC).

I bought the Ultra 8R to do "re-amping" method recording - so that I could make A/B comparisons between vacuum tubes and bias setings (I build amplifiers).

The direct instrument input option on the Ultra 8R is a bonus for that (since you don't need a DI box for the initial raw recording). Though you still need to use a DI box when "feeding the signal in to your amp".

While the hardware interface is great for what I'm doing - the SE version of Pro Tools that came with it is useless for reamping because you can't do channel routing.

Having said that - you can do a LOT with the SE version of Pro Tools, just not what I wanted to.

I already had Adobe Audition - which works perfectly with the ASIO driver - so I just use that instead.

I like the M-Audio hardware. It works well and does all I expect. It comes bundled with Avid's ProTools SE, which silly. The SE version only supports two input channels, so you have to spend another $ + to purchase the full version so you can use the 8 input channels available in the hardware.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

I bought this product because I was originally impressed with the M-audio interface (C400) that was bundled with Pro Tools MP9. Since then, I have since upgraded to Pro Tools 10, which oompletely fills my needs, and flawlessly I might add. However I needed at least 8 inputs for my studio so I needed to switch to a higher powered unit. I spent almost a month gathering info, looking at reviews, and was getting very frustated. I went back and looking at Avid's recommended list of hardware and there it was: the Fast Track Ultra 8R. I had seen it at another time but somehow overlooked it. I just received it from B&H for a great price and installed it without any problems whatsoever. I have a fairly active recording studio and I need everything to work on a daily basis and this fills the bill. This is a solid 8 input unit that is very well built, and fits in my rack. It is USB 2.0 connected, and my operating system is Windows 7 64 bit -- and the driver installation was easy. Don't take a chance and buy something that is not recommended for Pro Tools. I looked at others that were cheaper but why do that? Not worth it in the long run. Thanks to B&H I can die happy.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

The Fast Track Ultra is a great device to function as the "Hub" of your recording system. The Ultra sports traditional pots for input leveling and those pots feel and function proper. I prefer pots to slides, as they are less prone to accidental disruption. It sports 8 input channels and virtual instruments for versatility. The 48V Phantom Power is needed for special mic arrangements. My Propeller Head 6.0 S/W found the device and connected without a hitch. The Ultra comes with a beginners version of Pro Tools. I recommend the Ultra for small studio use - it's a great device.

Comments about M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R - USB 2.0 Interface with Pro Tools SE Software:

I was interested in getting an interface that would allow me to record several live tracks at once. After looking over the forums concerning firewire problems, I "settled" on this USB unit B & H pricing, delivery and customer service made it even simpler. I was amazed at the simple set up and how well it worked with Sonar. Pro Tools SE is adequate but have yet to research all the options. My one and only complaint is that I did not get this unit earlier. Would have saved time, money and the few hairs I have left.
