Comments about Sennheiser MKH-60 - (P48) Short Shotgun Mic:

Had a chance to use this microphone on set last week. Pumped it through a SD302 and didn't use any lavs since the actors were doing some pretty physical activity and we didn't want to lose $2,000 in lavs in a night.

Used it outside on a busy street in Brooklyn, and I was able to hear the actors crystal clear, along with all other relevant set noise. The directionality of this mic is like a built in mixer, because you still get the ambient noise, but the dialogue is focused and clear.

It is rather remarkable the difference that a high quality microphone makes. You simply cannot compare specifications from one microphone to the next to choose which one you will purchase. You must use your ears, and when you do that, you wind up paying good money for a quality product.

I listed 'Affordable' as a pro because this mic will ensure that you keep getting gigs, and will eventually pay for itself. Remember the old saying, "I can't afford to buy cheap junk." Or perhaps a bit more catchy saying, "Buy once, cry once."

Comments about Sennheiser MKH-60 - (P48) Short Shotgun Mic:

As a professional sound recordist, I use this mic for film and TV shoots - mainly for voice recording but also for sound effects. I own a Schoeps CMIT5U (which I prefer), but I use the MKH60 as my second choice - and first choice when the weather is wet. The quality of sound is very close to the CMIT5U, but this mic seems to have a slightly wider pattern making it a bit more forgiving when your subject goes off-mic. It is a robust mic, a little longer and a bit heavier than the Schoeps. I also use it as a camera mic for channels 3 and 4, when mixing to 1 and 2.
